FINALLY! A proper SAK!
on: February 22, 2009, 08:17:44 AM
Good day, ladies and gentleman. Soon in the mail from our good friend Tim I'll be receiving the Explorer Plus I've wanted for a while. I shall write a review after carrying it for a few weeks, quite possibly with pictures because in a bit I'm finally going to buy a damned camera.

Good decision on getting the plus scales as well.  They really add to the 'fiddle factor'.  :D

The magnifying glass is a great feature. I use the one on my champ a lot and am fascinated by the details on plants and insects that it lets me see :)

Not being wise to these things, I had to refer to SAKwiki for a picture:

Looks like a pretty well-rounded selection of tools there. I like the end-mounted phillips :)
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

I think I have the bits to make one of those.

The mag glass is a bit grotty, but I can probably clean it up enough....

Funny after I chopped my Champion to use only the metal saw I realized I had Explorer/Scientist potential. I have got to say this thread is leading me into temptation to make an Explorer.

I'm so excited, I can't wait! I love new gear. To elaborate a little on my reason to getting it, it's a companion to my SwissTool Plus. Everything it doesn't have, the SwissTool has. It has what the SwissTool doesn't, and also presents extra options in a handy small package. Covering all my bases! And if I don't feel like strapping on 6lb of stainless steel, I'll be able to just take along the Explorer without losing a lot of functionality. I think the logic's sound...

If I were you I'd pick up another one of those cheap Compacts and do a Scientist or a Yeoman.  They look good in blue.  ;)

Sorry shameless pic opportunity.  :-[  :D

Is that the one with the 84mm combo tool you drilled out? Very beautiful! By the way, I really want to get a promo back scale and use a regular front one sometime and have the shield on both sides! I remember wanting that as a kid and not knowing about the promo model, just thought it was a fantasy. Just like taking it apart and making my own layers. Wooo! My childhood dreams are coming true MWAHAHA!!! I AM DRUNK WITH SAK POWER!!!!!

Erm, anyway >_> <_< as soon as your guy gets back from Thailand and mails me some brass sticks I'll be pounding one of those together. A fine time for him to turn into a globetrotter  :twak:

Got it today! And it's made a wonderful first impression. In the next few weeks I'll post up a detailed review. As a quick question, where would I go to get refills for the pen?

Sorry Ben I didn't spot that question, yes it is one of the re-sized 84mm combos.

Tom (Rotokid) sells all the replacements you might need; pen, pin, micro driver etc.  However unless you plan on writing a book with the pen you shouldn't have to replace it for a long time.

Yes I painted my living room with a Signature Lite, and then hand copied the Q volume of my Encyclopedia, and then labeled all of my sweater vests without running out of ink yet. Okay, all of the above are lies, but I still haven't used an entire pen yet :D SPeaking of which, I've got three sets of plus scales coming my way in the mail, I need to order a few pens myself.

Haha! Why are people here so obsessed with pictures? Half the stuff people post pictures of we've all seen a hundred times from all the other people who post pictures (Mods excluded). I'm more concerned with how something works!

But a well proportioned SAK or MT is a joy to look at :) I agree that function comes first but for me, I like tools much more if they are good looking :).
