Shout out to Lazar
on: October 19, 2025, 07:34:16 AM
Just wanted to give a shout out to Lazar as I asked him to take on a personal project for me and it came out great.  I wanted him to restore my Wenger Nature Series Eurasian Otter to operational condition.  Luckily I had a spare 75mm Wenger that I could use as a donor.  It was a less than stellar donor, as there was rust and pitting between the liners and the blade, but it was the only other 75mm I was willing to sacrifice.  You can see below the condition of the Otter's blade.

The biggest concern with this kind of work is that the scales are not smooth so it turns into what could be something easy into very detailed work.  I'd imagine it's worse than working with Alox scales.  To add insult to injury the Wenger Rose has a larger pivot hole with a bushing inside the pivot hole.  Not sure why Wenger did it that way.  The pivot hole on the Otter is the diameter of the pin.  Nothing Lazar couldn't handle of course.  The original Otter pins appear to be nickel silver but I gave Lazar the go-ahead to replace the pin with brass.  Maybe I'm blind (I do wear glasses) but I had a bit of a hard time noticing the brass pin.  I actually had a hard time making the camera pick up the difference in color.

Though this will be mostly a shelf/drawer queen I'm happy to have it looking complete.  I also wasn't expecting Lazar to send it back in a logo'ed tin with some swag.  One of the stickers is already on my water cup.  Many thanks again to Lazar for making this happen.  He charged a more than fair price and his work speaks for itself.  Don't hesitate to reach out to him for your custom SAK needs!  :tu:

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.
