At least Leatherman got our hopes up, took our credit card or Paypal info, smashed our dreams and then called all of us losers.  So there is that to be thankful for.    :dunno:

Does make me a bit surprised that leatherman didnt do something like this sooner given that they are probably making insane margins on these tools due to the price and the fact that they probably will never need to warranty them since they are very much just sitting on a shelf

That’s actually a great point. We don’t know what the available quantity of these items was. There might have been very few of these available, which makes perfect sense. I had wondered if they were contractually able to recall any unsold stock of the grey #005’s from the retailers they gave them to, and used them for the Vault event this year. I don’t think they made very many of those. If the available stock was super low it was pretty cool they even did this.

They sold the tools at their original retail prices.

Fans would still have entered a lottery for Mr Crunch if it cost $500, so I don’t think they had “insane margins” selling extremely short production tools at $200.

The main things they gained from this are a bit of internet chatter about the brand and a lot of personal data from new account holders.

The thing is, they don't need to worry about warranty claims on their garage tools. I'd imagine a good chunk of the asking price of normal tools accounts for that, but on the garage series that just isnt a factor. Not to mention you have 0 overhead in terms of inventory since they always sell out the batches they make

Considering that a Mr. Crunch sold on eBay in January for (US) $2,025, current Mr. Crunch owners should not be unhappy that Leatherman did not just release another 500 or 5,000 of them.

From what have read on here and on a few LM groups via FACEBOOK, and the number of reported “LOSERs”  posting.
I would be surprised if there were more than four or five Mr. Crunch removed from the vault.  Likely only O N E !

Then maybe ONE next year, and one the year after that.

The only tool I even recall having been awarded was the EURO75 ? to a  FACEBOOK member having shared his other emails indicating LOSER ON AWL attempts.

I did not attempt a Lottery item, was tempted by the ARC OBSIDIAN offer, tempted only.

I did secure the LEATHER BOX SHEATH, tried for two, and my purchase was successful.  Shipping notice and a UPS Tracking number was posted.

Only can say LM created a stir on the net this last week.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

They definitely needed to use a different word than "loser", it's kind of disrespectful to regular customers.

Well if you are hyped at getting gouged for something that will only ever sit on your shelf, you kinda are a loser TBH

I know its a hot take but its really people forgetting that leatherman is a company that makes tools for people to use rather than pocket jewlery where all you do with a product is post a picture on reddit, feel happy for a few minutes, then shove it in a box and leave it on a shelf somewhere.

Leatherman just said the quiet part out loud

It's none of your business or Leatherman's business whether my tool sits on a shelf like a piece of jewelry or it's for heavy use, but calling people "losers" sounds kind of disrespectful.  :td:

I thought it was really odd that the company posted "loser". I know of one Leatherman centric Facebook group changed their name from Tool User to Loser.

They should have just said "did not win".

Not sure who their PR is these days, but the folks who were insulted and/or found it the funniest thing were high from what I have read. Mind you, I am Canadian and was not invited to be officially labeled a loser by Leatherman.   :D

Being to old guy in the room!

I really do no see the term LOSER that offensive.

It was a lottery, one entry either two results, a WIN or a LOST.

WINNER or LOSER seems the best description.   Simple and to the point.

Do we really need to be let down gently with a flowery reply.   There was no try again opportunity. One and done.

I imagine the programmer, preparing this, always working with definitive results was working alone late into the night.  Got to the point of how to indicate the results, just said two options, a winner and a loser.

Black or White, On or Off, Green or RED, Stop or Go.
All of the above describe the either or result. No middle ground, no room for being misinterpreted.

Short and to the point.

Was anybody confused by the message received?

I can hear my mother, after giving me an answer, and I may have challenged the reply. “What do you not understand? NO! Means NO! end of discussion. “

The one thing LM could have shared, was, how many items of each offering were available.

Or, at the end of each day, closed the lottery for those items.  Then a person could chose take a chance on the day two group.

I do bet there were those that felt some anxiety, what if I hit awl my selections!
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

I own probably 100+ Leatherman MTs, and about 90% never get carried.   They are quite happy to remain in the Powernoodle Special Reserve Collection, which is a place of high honor in the MT world.     :woohoo:   I get a great deal of enjoyment from the searching, the anticipating, the ordering, the receiving, the owning, the hoarding, the sniffing and fondling, and the discussing on MTO.

I am quite sure that Leatherman is happy to receive the countless thousands of dollars I have given them over the past 35 years because, you know, that's why they exist.

There is really something wrong with people who think their role in the world is to tell other people what to do with a multitool.  That's absurd.  I'm not talking about anyone in particular.  Just the Hermione Granger types who think the world is populated with Ron Weasleys who need to be constantly reprimanded and instructed.

Btw, I don't get too jazzed about Leatherman calling me a Loser four times.  The last thing they intended was to insult the customer, and intent supplants everything.  But I bet that someone at Leatherman is reading this thread, and maybe they won't use the L word next time.

Of course, next time they will not have the chance to called me a Loser, because I will not be participating unless they tell us in advance how many of each MT are being offered.  They played us this time just to get our contact info.

But the joke is on them, since they already had my contact info.

Peace.

A pic worthy of Reddit.

I don’t feel too bad about not winning the #005’s I entered the lottery for. I just wanted the spring loaded pliers. Super excited to have gotten the Obsidian though. I’m putting all the DLC hardware from the obsidian on my standard Arc for one that’s got the maximum DLC and that will be my edc most of the time. All my black hardware will go on the obsidian for a blackout Arc, which will develop a nice patina with wear. The Blackout will be my occasional EDC. They will both be black so I’m calling them Huginn and Muninn after Odin’s ravens.  :viking:

Maybe I’ll throw some pics up when I’m done with the mods.

That was a shame, if it may help you feel better, I shielded you from the shame.

My bid on your behalf was a resulting loser.  I do much want to be the hero and score your requested unit.

Instead, I was shamed by LM FOR MY ATTEMPT, and now shamed a second time admitting that I failed YOU. 😳

AI did secure two of the box style GARAGE  and yesterday they arrived.

Inspecting this morning, this is too small for my ST, and SIGNAL.  A LITTLE larger than my REBAR.  BUT PERFECT for the WAVE 2nd gen, my CHARGEs and even two other RED (no name) MTs.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Stamped USA made and heavier leather than the last black box style I bought.
