Yemao YM-M28 Tactical Flashlight.

I just received this flashlight today and my first impressions are fairly good.

I am gravitation more and more away from traditional round bodied flashlights to the rectangular shaped flashlights that fit in a pocket better and don't roll around if you decide to lay it on a flat surface.

Included is the flashlight, a rubber lanyard, a USB-C charging cable, and a tiny instruction sheet that required my needing a magnifier to read the small print.

The flashlight is mostly a solid cream coloured plastic body with black textured side panels. There is an included pocket clip. On the front are 2 LED bulbs. 1 is warm and tends to give you a wider illumination pattern. The other LEDv is a blue spot light. There is also a COB light on the front side that also has a red LED and a very anemic UV light.

The one side has the USB-C charging port behind a rubber door.

The back side has a nice big pocket clip. You could use the clip both ways...pocket up or pocket down.

A better look at the wide warm beam flood LED and the cold blue spot LED.

On the tail end are the 2 switches. One for the forward facing main LEDs. The second button controls the side firing COB display.

There are 3 levels of light for both flood and spot. Pressing the main button with a long press switches from flood to spot and back again. In either mode, a quick press of the main button will give you a lower light level, etc... There is also a tuirbo mode that fires both front facing lights for maximum power.

Here is the warn flood function.

Here is the cold spot function.

Pressing the other button controls the side COB light. There are 2 levels of intensity of this function. If you long press, it will rotate the white light to a red LED. If you press 1 time when the red LED is active, you will make it blink. Pressing 1 more time will give you a very weak UV light.

My thoughts:

Pros:
- I really like the formfactor of this flashlight.
- The use of 2 buttons makes using this flashlight easy enough.
- Press the main button and you will get the warm flood light at maximum power. Long press to get the maximum power spot light.
- Pocket clip is versatile.
- Battery power gauge is easy to read.
- COB light is fairly strong and gives you 2 levels of power.

Cons:
- Lanyard is a cheap rubber that is semi stretchable.
- Red light is very strong and might not be good at keeping your night vision.
- UV light is anemic.
- Still somewhat complicated but not as bad as some other flashlight offerings out there. Getting to the UV function can be mildly entertaining.
- If you quickly triple press the COB light button, a brief green icon will flash on the battery gauge, and you lock down the flashlight. Pressing that button another 3 times unlocks the flashlight. I managed to lock myself out a few times fiddling with the flashlight.

Overall:

I really like this flashlight. For its price, it hits way above what you would expect.

I am EDCing this flashlight and this is what I have found thus far.

- Not happy with the button placement on the end. When I try to press one button, I find that my big fingers will tend to press both.

- The battery does run down quickly. Charging appears to be almost as quick as discharge during use.

- Wish the flashlight would remember the settings better. It remembers if you last used either flood or spot, but not at which level you last used.

- This is personal preference but I wish the spot and flood functions started at its weakest beam first. Instead it starts at medium then full, and last on weakest.

- Not sure why they included a UV function. Not only is it fiddly to activate, but it is so weak to be useless.

- The shape is excellent and it feels solid in the hand.

- Pocket clip is rather stiff and difficult to use on a pocket.

- For the price, I feel it is good value despite it's shortcomings.

Garbage pickup tomorrow morning so I decided to bring this flashlight out with me tonight to bring the bin to the road. The more I use this flashlight, the more I dislike the dual tail buttons. I once again pressed the side COB tail button by accident and got blinded by the side light right into my eyes.

It depends on how you hold it. If my thumb has to reach over to the far button, then both will get activated. This is really bothering me. The light it throws is powerful enough, but dual activation when not wanted is a PITA as you spend some time turning the one light off.

The price is still good for what you get, but not enjoying using this light at first press in the dark.

While I generally think two-button interfaces are quicker and more intuitive to use than single-button interfaces for multi-mode lights, it sounds like this one has a significant design flaw.

That or there is a significant design flaw in the user.
