From what I understand this was taken with a camera that has 1474 megapixels.

It's actually stitched together, if you look next to the camera stand you can see a pair of legs walking around.

Sadly, it turns out that it is infact made up of lots of smaller images using this system http://gigapansystems.com/system-page.html .
