Urban Wallet anyone?
on: March 05, 2009, 05:53:33 PM
Dear laddies and lassies on forum.mt.org...

I wonder if there are any other forumites that have or are after one of Bill's Urban Wallets (or a similar contraption). I've owned and edc'ed one for some time and love it. I somehow got a left-handed version, though, so I'm on the lookout either for a new one (reads: group-buy) or to trade mine to a south-paw who has the inverse problem... :D

(@mods: I didn't want to put this in the trade forums, as it isn't totally trade-oriented, but feel free to move it out if you think otherwise)

Looks a lot like the Mission wallet.

@hc: Bill actually makes the new mission wallets. This nylon variant is very similar to the MW, only that it replaces a zippered pocket on the opposite side from the knife slots for the credit card pocket right behind the latter in the MW.
@lm123: It was handmade for sure, and it accidentally turned out a custom lefty... :D

Well... I sometimes type faster than I think and so ended up with a brand new OD green Urban Wallet coming my way. I will thus put my lefty black one up for grabs. Anyone interested fire me a pm. Thanks. :tu:

PS: I'll also post this up on a couple of other forums; just wanted to be up-front.

I'm sure you'll love them kwakster and Bill is a great guy to deal with. :tu:

Now, some more info on the one that's for sale... I've been carrying mine around for the best part of the last month or so, so it's definitely not BNIB. On the other hand, I've been sitting on my butt most of this time, so it hasn't seen much action either. I've attached a couple of shots for you to see (can take more if interested). It cost me $24-$25 to get in the first place, including shipping, and that's what Bill also charges now afaik. You can also find these in other places online but their total cost (incl. s/h) would be in the $35-$40 vicinity, if you're EU-based. Which brings me to this: why would someone prefer to get this one from me and not directly from Bill? So: a) shipping cost will be lower if you're in Europe, b) I'll let it go for less than a new one will cost you ::), c) it's a lefty and it's ready to go, d) I'm a really nice chap. :D

There... If you're interested, fire me a pm. I'd also entertain trades, although I don't have anything in mind that I'd really want right now (other than my white whale)... :D

Cheers.

I'm almost afraid to ask as I am sure this is a really stupid question, but what exactly makes it a lefty?

No, it has a red lining... :P

Seriously now, have a look at my pics and then have a look at those on Bill's site. What should be the lower left corner of the wallet is a bit pronounced so that it fits a right front pocket better. When put in the pocket that way, the side zipper is on the right and the knife pockets in the front (i.e. not the leg side). Thus you can presumably open all zippers and grab for yer knives one-(right-)handed and it's the wallet (not knives) side that rubs against your leg. Well... Mine is built the other way around, so that if you put the pronounced corner as it should be, the side zipper is on the left (i.e. closer to your crotch) and the knife pockets on the inside (digging on your leg). Carrying it in my left pocket fixes these issues, but then... you know... it's on my left... ::)

Did that make any sense?  :-\

Ah yes I get ya!.  :tu:  I personally would prefer a lefty as I like to carry a folder in my right pocket anyway.

Just out of curiosity, would an MT like a Fuse and a Vic Farmer fit in the front of it?

I usually carry a Spirit in the larger pocket and a Minichamp+Fenix e0 in the smaller one, so I guess a Fuse and a Farmer would surely fit.

I'm trying really hard NOT to buy this from you.

So, that said, can you please tell me the exact dimensions and how much it would cost to send it to me in the UK?

Thanks

FWIW today was my first day without it after about a month or so of edc'ing and I just couldn't get used to not having it in my pocket. It's a very simple contraption -- if you're into sewing and stuff you could easily make one yourself -- but makes all the difference. I just can't suggest it enough. The only "problem" is that for us European fellows the only reasonable way of getting one is directly from Bill (any other way is a s/h cost overkill) who has a very limited array of payment options (none of which is totally compatible with my paranoia for security).

Just for you guys that were tempted that last time and didn't manage to get it before Neil: Up for grabs is a brand-new OD green Urban Wallet in identical configuration as the previous one, only missing the plastic cc holder. This is exactly as I got it from the seller -- never carried, never put anything in it, i.e. BNIB (only that it didn't come in a box :)). I'd like to let it go for €25 shipped anywhere (paypal preferred), but will entertain trades and always love haggling.

Pics of the actual item (sorry for the not-so-OD look... shots were from cell phone cam under incand light):

Cheers.
