Many Vics. were bailed up until roughly '68 though there were still some around in the early 70's.  The Soldier had a hollow rivet until around '93.

Trickier to tell with Wenger, obviously there's the SI and Handwerker range.  I don't have many bailed Wengers and dating the ones I have is difficult because of the lack of records (most of Wenger's archives were destroyed by fire in the 80's).

You will occasionally see smaller 58 and 74mm Vics. with bails but I'm not sure if these were factory or not.

Here's a couple of shots. An old Vic. Champion and a Wenger Handwerker.

The bail looks nice and hopefully I will soon have a SAK with one. I hope the SI still has brass liners too. Pretty  :)

I like bails on thin SAKs, but I find they get a little cumbersome after a few layers.

Brass liners are always great though!  :tu:

I just whipped out of the boxes my purchased 2 months ago (JAN 2009) Victorinox Soldier '08 stamped and Wenger Standard Issue '04 stamped.  I am fixing to burst your bubble, and like obama, full of no hope:

Soldier: aluminum liners, solid rivet

Standard Issue: aluminum liners, hollow rivet with bail

BTW: I compared them to a First Mate (MINE, not one of the 9 that is getting shipped out on Saturday to Felinevet) which has brass liners...very much easy to see which have brass and which ones do not.
