Ah, the SwissTool Spirit :dd: . I need to take some new pics of it. A great MT, in fact my favourite, despite some shortcomings like irritating scissors, limited wood saw length and a peculiar plain edge blade spine.

If anything there will be to much fondling in prison.

No internet is a real punishment though, well that and the unwanted fondling.

That's alright for you to say from Afganistan - I'm probably within driving distance.

Would it be too tenuous to organise a Monjugal visit? Would you mind sharing your man with Zed?

Nice pic  :salute:

I'm unsure about that corkscrew attachment. Does anyone actually use it? It seems a bit of a palaver to set it all up, when you've probably (on this forum at least) got a SAK handy to open any winecorks.

Looking at the corkscrew makes me wonder... anyone found a way to include a toothpick into the Spirit somehow? :)

[Also, even further off topic, I got a Leatherman Wave recently, and one month later it has rust spots, despite no exposure to water. Combined with general build quality, design and feel, I've been strongly reminded of why I'm a Victorinox chap.]

I've used it. Not necessarily for opening corks. If I'm carrying the SwissTool (or Spirit) then I'm not carrying a SAK. I use the corkscrew a lot. It's especially handy for untying hard knots.

I suffer from Palmer Hyperhidrosis which means my hands literally drip with sweat at some point most days (especially when I'm stressed or working hard). My Spirit (Victorinox, not my actual spirit!) has had plenty of opportunity to rust, but is still as smooth and shiny as the day I received it. I'm not sure a Leatherman would last very long in my hands!

Ah ok. You know there is a treatment to help with hyperhidrosis right. It consists of submerging your hands (or whatever part)  in water and sending electric currents through the water. Just figured I would mention it.

Thanks Cap  :salute: I have tried that - it hurts like hell and didn't make any difference. The other options are surgery with a chance I could lose the feeling in my hands, or botox injections every 3 months. I have spoken to people who have had some success with the treatments available but go on to suffer compensatory sweating somewhere else on their bodies.

I've had this for 47 years, my wife and daughter are ok with it, I don't get myself into many situations where I have to have physical contact with people, so I get by with it as it is.

Costs me a lot of cash in guitar strings though - they don't last at all  :D

I appreciate your suggestion  :tu:

I hope to join the club in the future.
Probably with the spirit x.

But i am too attached to my Swisstool x.
And i think it will last for a lot of years before i need to replace it.

The only complainment i can see about the spirit is that the scissors are a step down from the regular Swisstool. But this has been said before.

It is a strange design in the fact that the jaws don't open wider.  The scissors are excellent in performance, and though I've never needed a wider jaw scissors on a MultiTool, I'm just not sure why they don't make them bigger as it seems easy enough

I agree on the opening part, but it has more to do with the lenght of the cutting part.

I also heard people complain that the Swisstool/spirit pliers don't open far enough. But i never needed the plier to go that far open.
The cutting part is unesble at that angle, the gripping part wont work on that angle and the bolt gripping part wont fit bolts that large.

Maybe for the same reason our cars (autos) are smaller  :pok:

I'm a convert to Spirit after a reluctant start.  My take on the scissor size is I like the mechanical advantage of the longer handle.  I don't think the overall length can increase because the tool attachment intrudes.  If the scissors pivot was moved back (and the handle shortened) within the same width envelope (fixed by the handle width) the scissors angle would have to decrease so the extra cutting length would only work better for paper, an easy test even Wingman passes  :pok:  I haven't done the tip opening size calcs but the present opening comfortably accepts (and cuts) 550 and cable ties.  I think Victorinox designed the optimal scissors for the handle width  :salute:  Just my opinion.

However the plier cutters suck though my blunter nose mod did improve the soft wire cutter performance.  Again, just my opinion.

I am in!

OK,  everyone who I have silently doubted on this tool,  I WAS WRONG!  this thing is SOO amazing!
I keep playing with it and it is such a fascinating tool.

I feel similarly. I got a Spirit (with the butter blade) yesterday. It's simply in a different league regarding ergonomics, fit, finish, polish, and utility. The tool is so evolved.
I hadn't deliberately held out from getting one, nor had I really doubted they were worth getting. I just waited till I got one that was in excellent condition, at a really nice price. Only thing it is missing is a sheath, and now I have to decide whether to go for the ratchet combo, or just get a plain Spirit sheath, with no room for extra's. (I already have a Topeak Ratchet, which I love, which could usurp the Swiss Ratchet in the larger sheath). I know though, that if I get all the extras that I will then be less likely to carry it, due to size and weight, that's just how I am.
What do you guys think? Extras, or not?

If you think it would discourage you from using it, don't get the extras. If you already have a good ratchet, why buy another?

Sorry, I don't know what came over me just then. Get all the extras and an extra Spirit too. Forgot which forum I was on.
