The black finish on the Spirit (mostly the handles) is shiny too, the pliers are more satiny. I suppose it has to do with how polished they are before the blackout treatment.

Here's a Spirit I bought used a year ago or so.
The former owner used some type of gentle grinder on the scales so that they aren't as shiny.  Apparently, he thought they showed too many finger prints.
It turned out okay in my opinion.
