Along with this gorgeous Minichamp I got a corkscrew for my Spirit.

Question: How the heck am I supposed not to lose this thing?

I've only seen the corkscrew in the Plus pouch. I think a pouch is the best way not to lose it. Nice Minichamp by the way  :like:

So the postman did me another great favour and gave me a BLACK SPIRIT! Hoorah!

My joy was tainted a bit by the staggering amount of gunk on the pliers - I know these black ones tend to be grimy but this was kind of yucky to be honest - like they were smeared with a layer of earwax.
Even after rubbing down with lighter fluid that area of the pliers looks like crap... which is a bit of a shame. Such a beautiful tool otherwise.
Oh yeah, this is the one with scissors. The first time I've played with these.
Blimey! Those scissors really aren't very good are they! I think I'd prefer to have the serrated blade. Nevermind -  I now have two Spirits, the black and the silver, with scissors and without. That's enough expensive toys for the moment.

Mine was the same way Pants, it took a lot of working oil into the joint and clearing away the excess to get the stickiness out of the pliers (and pivots), then I polished the residue off the pliers (and elsewhere) with metal polish. The black finish is durable, and it's a lot shinier now, which is not what I wanted, but it is much smoother like a Spirit is supposed to be. There are some marks left even after polishing so YMMV. Mine's a user anyway, so I don't mind the patina.  :salute:

The pliers on my black Spirit are very stiff as well.  I keep meaning to try to do something about it - maybe I ought to get some oil in there and see if they loosen up.

Oh, and I really like the scissors.  Granted, they're rubbish for trimming your nails, but as utility mini-snips, they're great.

They are great scissors, they get a bad rap because of their size, but I find them up to most any task. Besides, they have been making proper nail clippers since medieval times, who uses scissors on their nails anyway?  :P  :tu:

I used WD40 to clean out the pliers joint, I just kept working it into the joint and pivot and wiping away the excess with a paper towel. With how tight the joint is, I was surprised how much crud came out of it. It didn't take away 100% of the stickiness of the joint, but after some moderate use it's smooth as glass now.

Really,
How many times did someone grab the scissors from their Spirit and said  "oh no, these won't work" grabbed the scissors from a 91mm next and did the job effortlesly?
And if this ever happened, what cutting job was it?

Good questions Nick. I think if you want bigger scissors the 91's are a good choice, probably the best out there for their size, but I haven't run into anything the Spirit scissors won't do just as well, maybe they will take more snips because of their size, but the quality is there, the ones I've had anyway...

I would like to hear how the Spirit scissors failed where 91's did not also, because it hasn't really happened to me yet.  :tu:

I think I was shocked that they don't open very far but in reality this shouldn't be a hindrance. I wasn't planning on chopping through wads of paper anyway.
I suppose the perfect sidekick to this particular Spirit would be a black [by which I mean Blackout] OH serrated Sentinel with a corkscrew on it. Which doesn't exist (does it?)

With blackout Garant 111mm plus scales, which we know don't exist (yet).  :tu:

For just simply cutting rope and stuff the Spirit scissors are excellent. But for detailed cutting (like along a drawn line on a piece of paper) is where I find the 91mm scissors (and most scissors at that) to be perfect...

The scissors being left handed makes cutting around a corner left handed also. Like left and right handed tin snips which are made to cut different paths, but I have used left handed tin snips right handed, so it's not really an issue for me. Also using the Spirit scissors with the left hand and moving the workpiece with your right hand works fine, rather than moving the scissors around whatever it is. My brain is getting tired now.  :D

I’m just not accustomed to scissors like the Spirits.  And it feels awkward for me to use scissors with my left hand...

I remembered I have this Wenger Blackout which is not one-hand opening, sadly. (And I remember thinking "What kind of an idiot would pay 60 euros for the black version of a 24 euro knife...")
Very tacticool!
