Having done an unusual amount of small repairs around work today I thought I'd celebrate with some pics of my Spirit based mini toolkit

For those of us who live in places such as the UK and can't legally EDC a locking blade, what options are available to make/convert this great multi tool to conform to our crazy laws?

I did carefully take a dremel tool to the locking sections on both the blades on my Swisstool years ago, they no longer lock in place so in theory the tool is legal to EDC,.....the saws and other attachments still lock in place but that could be another story I guess. :-\

Anyway, I have a brand new Spirit waiting, one day I'd like that to become my EDC, really loathed to take a dremel to that too,.....just thought that I'd ask you folks on here what's the best way to go about doing this??

Man, that UK knife law is bonkers.
It's almost comical that the 6 cm blade on a Swisstool Spirit violates the law in any way. But a locking blade is a locking blade - so even Spyderco Ladybug is illegal (!)
Meanwhile, you've got teenagers butchering each other with gigantic sawtooth machetes.

You'd think Victorinox would make a UK legal version of the Spirit and Swisstool - surely it's just a minor alteration which would be a doddle for them to do in the factory, and tricky as heck for you to do at home.

Pretty sure someone has done this mod, but I can't remember who or when or where... hopefully they'll chime in.

Yeah it's bonkers I agree.

It would be great if Victorinox took notice and made a UK version, even if it meant replacing the blade with something else. Leatherman do a knife less version of their's after all.

So... Last week I joned the Spirit owners' club with a brand new and shiny Spirit X.

It quickly became my most favorite MT, as it has roughly the same capabilites as my LM Rebar (with scissors modded in), but in a sleeker, more pocket friendly package. The Spirit might be but lighter duty than the Rebar - and definitely lighter duty than my Charege -, but for my needs, meaning occasional use in urban situations, it's perfectly enough, and if I know there's some task coming up, I can always pick the right MT or dedicated tool.

The Spirit X just oozes quality and only the second MT after my (retired) Pulse which I feel perfectly comfortable to pocket carry.

I'm very happy with it and will EDC it for sure.

I love my spirit x as well. I own a charge tti, st300 and swisstool and I'm not scared to throw at it what I would a full size tool. I got it with the ratchet kit and corkscrew. I just bought a skinth L shield and enjoy it more than with the pouch it came with. Enjoy yours!

I'd love a mini Swisstool - along the lines of the Leatherman Juice but with Swiss awesomeness. The Juice has an amazing usefulness-to-size ratio but it's a world-class fingertip wrecker (I'm talking about the fiddly screwdrivers that swing out and somehow smack you on the back of the finger or thumb.)

Yeah, a palm-sized sibling would be nice, but on the other hand, one could say that you should just get a SAK model that has pliers... :)

Hmmm...
I don't have anything against those tiddly little Vic pliers but the Juice pliers is an altogether more useful tool, I reckon!
As this grotty, blurry picture hopefully demonstrates. (Vic pliers could go a bit wider than in my picture but the L-Man has an awful lot more flat grippy area and wire cutting edge.)
A Spirit this dinky would be so cool I'd buy, I dunno, at least five of them!

I have an XE6 so I'm familiar with the Juice as well, my comment was more in jest. ;) And yeah, a smaller Spirit would be interesting, definitely.
