Am sure others have asked this, and I did search online first. Anymore keywords pop up with links to buy the items instead of "searching the entire input of words". :ahhh

Has anyone purposely used their shiny chrome Spirit as an emergency (or otherwise) signal mirror I wonder?

I thought the Swisstools were 100% stainless steel, not chromed at all

You are correct Tazzie.  They are a very high polish SS so the final finnish looks very much like chrome but is much more durable.

I don't think this one is a first run as I believe the earliest ones had the vic shield next to "victorinox" on the handles, not above (as my two butter blade version have).

I believe they put the shield on the plier head for a number of years before dropping it, but can't remember when.

First runs have combo blade with 4 line VSSR tang stamp.  :tu:

Got these 6# magnets that are capable of sliding inside a Tread link, with some corner filing, though have extras. These buggers have some pull, so slapped a magnet on opposing sides to hopefully magnetize the Phillips screw driver on the Spirit X.

This video shows the easiest way to magnetize a screwdriver. This is the same way they taught us in Science Class in school.

Be sure to just drag the screwdriver in one direction.

So.. As I wrote in the spirit challenge thread, this came in yesterday

And to ask the same question here.. Any thoughts on how to carry this without using the original sheath? I have my own custom made sheath and thinking about adding an extra pocket or sleeve to hold it but I wanted to hear how the rest of you do before I bring out the leather

Cut a small slit in the fold of my Rogue wallet, and screwed it inside. Easy, secure, and available when needed. Although you might want to remove it when going through a TSA checkpoint - not sure how they would react to that.

Am sure any wallet would suffice, as long as it's inside the fold.

Interesting, I didn’t know they had 4 line spirits.

I’ll have to check mine later and see, though I think they are 3 line versions.

This place never fails to instruct! After checking my Spirit - turns out it has the 4 line tang.

Its proved invaluable at work - carried it every working day  since July 1st and have put it to use each and every day.

Looked at a video comparing SwissTools to Spirits and am satisfied with the X.

Giving up heavier pliers, more ounces/weight, and rulers. Even on the Charge TTi had only rarely used the ruler. And of those times, going past the middle I was skeptical of accuracy anyhow. Think the most I used it for was to measure bolt width or length, maybe other small items. Rulers are nice, but not a deal breaker considering losing the ergonomics & feel for more weight and plain jane blocky appearances. SwissTool doesn't have a hole in the awl either.

Spirits are too sexy and fit very well. :D  There is no comparison save maybe a Juice KF4, yet then the tools are nothing like the Spirit. And that chisel... ♥♥♥♥♥

Maybe will have to keep an eye out for a portable ruler/micrometer to EDC if there such a thing? Although I do not use one often. Or carry a small plastic ruler inside the sheath or inside a wallet?

I solved the ruler issue by adding a separate metal one.

You could always cut down a 6" rule to 4" and it'd only cost a couple of bucks

I found them at a flea market years ago for $1. They were about 6” long originally and I cut them down to fit in the sheath.

Edit: no affiliation with this seller, but these are the same kind I got:

Am aware of that, and what I intended. Google & Amazon both failed to find any rulers with the bolt hole measurement on searched rulers, with Standard & Metric measurements. The more key words I entered the worse the results. Seen just about everything but what I wanted. :-\  -  Now see that gauge does better than everything else that I used. :ahhh

  Thank you.

Ordered one on Amazon, as I rarely get to a hardware store. Have so many things to do and not enough hours in the day.

Are these more collectable I ponder? :pok: How would one search for a four lined Spirit anyhow?!?

Are there any other indicators. like the Vic shield on pliers? Did it come with a variation of sheathing?

I don’t know if there are other indicators besides the 4 lines, but the shield on the pliers wont tell you. All of mine are 3 line versions with the shield on the pliers.

Small ruler came in from Amazon, and was able to reduce the file to a hair over 4 inches. Is printed on both sides. though did have to lightly file and sand the corners as the metal was way too sharp.

No way to carry in the sheath, so cut a slit below the rivets, and another slit down in further. Hope I did not screw anything up. No other way to carry the file in there as there is no back leather piece to slide it behind. It would fall out otherwise, and still might.

Do wished the Victorinox leather was stiffer. Starting to see some sag from wearing on a belt every day and driving a compact car.

While at work yesterday had to drop a tailgate down on a cart to put product on, since the cart was stacked to high to fit through the short doorways... And it was one that had a missing bolt. Now I did go and buy a couple of heavy steel bolts, and seriously considering to find a solid aluminum one for lighter weight. Just not sure how I will carry one yet.

In any case, the only tool long enough to fit was the file, and I really did not want to use the file, but it was needed and nothing else was available. Frito-Lay needs to take better care of their cheap Chinese carts.

  Temporary File-Bolt

  Another view

And I measured the head of the bolt, and bought a couple of cheap steel ones from Walmart before leaving.

Had used a PST in this fashion. It went for walkabout, but I did find it a couple of weeks later. Still no sign of the Flair.
