I had a Spirit for a while (review is on the main website) and it stands a testament to how great swiss engineering truly is. When it comes to fit and finish on this tool, it's perfect and impeccable. It's not "perfect" but it's darn near close to it. It does not have a pocket clip but that is easily fixed and it does not have a one hand opening blade. Oh yea and the drivers are all WAY polished and they don't grip as good as a bit driver with the Leatherman series. It has it's faults but no one is perfect, it's one heck of a tool for sure. The clip for those who must have it can pick up the quick clip one used for hand guns and the polished drivers can be carried along side a bit kit with the ratcheting wrench. The main reason I like the Swisstools in general is, corrosion resistance. Dunc can attest to this since he is in salt water most of the time, it can go a heck of alot longer without showing any signs of trouble. I am fed up with my Leatherman tools and rust spots, I am always having to look over them to make sure they don't spread. The Vic/Wenger tools don't need any major maintenance at all and it's fantastic. I did foolishly trade away my old spirit but this week I got another one and I cannot be more pleased. I missed the old girl so much and I won't let her go this time, that is for sure!  :tu:

If fairness David Dunc has just given us a great review here: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,13819.0.html

Where in reply No7 he says he's had no issues with rust on the Leatherman Wave after using it at work for three months at work.  A good testament to the rust resistance of that Leatherman IMO.

I stand corrected, maybe Dunc has better luck than I in that corrosion area. I need to get some motivation and get some tuff cloth but other things keep coming up.

in all fairness to other MTs i bought an LM wave today. what the hey... seemed like the right thing to do. after all i did read dunc's review last night.
i really want to like the wave. REALLY... but it just does'nt come close to the spirit (now is where i gotta throw in IMHO).
like the serated blade, like the file, like the saw, and i like the driver and that's about it. everything else is a struggle for me. the pliers and handle reach at full extension does not work for me. i don't like having to open the tool to get to a fairly dissapointing cluster of tools. plus it's heavier and bulkier than my spirit. it does not feel good in my hand and rides poorly in my hip pocket.
since this is the spirit owners club i don't want to diss other MTs but i will cheer the spirit. it feels good in the hand regardless of the tools in use. i like the precision feel when you lock in a tool and use it. it's like butter!... ALL of the tools it has are well thought out and useful. i want a chisel. the wire stripper has no equal. i like file. the awl is perfection. the phillips driver has never given me grief. i don't have to restle with it to get to the tools i need. plus.... it's easey to use... yep... it's user friendly.
i do agree that compairing a spirit to any other MT is like compairing apples to oranges. there is the spirit ... and then there is every thing else.

I finally broke down and got a spirit.

While it is a nice tool, the pliers when open have no "Tension" whatsoever.  They are really free, but not to the point they wobble.  Is this normal?

Other than that, I really like the tool, and the leather sheath.

I do keep all my multitools really clean so theres very little chance of any serious rust forming on any brand .

The lack or resistance in the plier pivot caught me by surprise when I first encountered it too, but you get used to it pretty quickly.

I like the lack of resistance with the pliers. For me it makes them easier to use.

I've just got a new SOG Pocket power plier which I've been playing with all afternoon .I like it but its got nothing on the Spirit .Although it is UK legal carry .

Anyway has anyone got a pic of a BO Spirit with a worn finish ? I'd just like to see what one would look like .

mine is still very shiny... so much so that you might not be able to see the wear on it. where the locks are the finish was removed by some grout.

ok.... i played around with some of the camera settings to help show wearing of the finish. the wear on the blade occured yesterday while using an aluminium level as a straight edge to cut a straight line. the handle finish is not the same as the type used on the tools.

The trouble with the BO finnish is when the tool is new you don't want to scratch it but once it gets a few marks on them it doesnt look spoilt in any way . Does yours have a waxy kind of feel to it ?
