I'm a member! :ahhh  Picked up my Spirit X from the post office this morning and had it at work today.  They really are a pleasure to use and play with, I suspect my leatherman's will be taking it easy for a little while. :D  Took a couple of quick snaps in the workshop but TBH the light was awful so they didn't come out well.

Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

Does anyone know if Victorinox plans to bring out a black version of the Spirit Plus model? I can only find the other one in black but I want scisors and the butter knife looks handier than the strait edge since I always have a regular pocket knife... details details.
Oh also I've heard of other tools loosing their black oxide coatings all too easily. Anyone with a black spirit care to comment on that one?

Their is a black version of the Spirit S , the X and the black/textured "Road" version - of which I know little .

Of these the "Road " version is the one I would like to see , but the S also backons .

Thanks Chris. I like the original Spirit the best, don't know why they would make a black version of the s and the x but not the original...ah well.
The road version eh? sounds interesting but can't find anything on the web, must be top secret lol.
What's this about folks saying the regular stainless finish is too polished and "slips" out of screw heads when you use the driver? seems silly to me but I suppose the black version would be slightly better in that sense.

It'd be too hard to get a BO finish on scissors, so I very much doubt Vic would ever do one :-\

Leatherman did it with the blast scissors, what would make it harder for Vic?

They've done it already for the s.i. Spirit (it's a BO X with cap crimping head) ;)

Well I've been using mine around work and home for the last couple of weeks and I'm totally sold on it.  The outside opening tools took a bit of getting used to, I kept opening it up as I would have done with my Fuse etc. :-[  The blade and the scissors could be a bit easier to get to if I'm being fussy but it's no big complaint. I've had no issues with the screwdrivers at all so no worries for me on the front.  The scissors are...OK....but not as good as standard Vic scissors IMO, just too dumpy, chunky and don't open wide enough. :-\  Love the saw and the file, nice and aggressive and work well on wood and plastic, I've not had a reason to file metal yet but I don't believe it would be a problem.  The stripper/scraper/chisel thing hasn't been particularly used yet but I'm sure I'll find something for it to do at some point. Best of all though is as a set of pliers, the sculpted shape makes them very comfortable to use and the head is a great shape.  The bottle opener also works well.

Has anyone found a use for the oddly placed hook yet?

I saw another thread about the multi purpose hook but can't seem to find it now.
Someone mentions nasal torture as one of it's many uses.  >:D

See, I can think of a few uses for the hook on the back of a standard Vic SAK, but for the life of me I can't thank of any for the one at the base of the awl.  Am I missing something? ???

When you've finished boring a hole in the side of a tree you can use the hook to pull out the juicy bugs.
