I just got one but noticed there is no symbol on the plier head. What does that mean?

Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk

Yours was made on or after mid-2010, IIRC.

My latest Spirit has the unmarked plier head but has the older style handles with the logo inline with "Victorinox"

Does anyone know where I can get a Swiss Army issued BO Spirit at a reasonable price?

Every time I see one my mouth starts to water.

Thanks for the free publicity, turnsouth :)
Mine are Dutch army issued Spirits though, probably not the ones evanPGH wants (Swiss Army issued with cap-crimper plier head).

I do like the Dutch Army version, my only concern is not being able to re-sharpen the butter blade once it goes dull.

And damn the exchange rate is killing us over here  :ahhh

Actually Vic serrated edges sharpen easier than most. You just have to lightly draw the blade serrations against the corner of a stone (at 30 degrees) until you feel a slight burr on the flat side of the blade. Then just use the flat of the stone to remove the burr. Works like magic. :tu:

I know :(

Here in NL, a BO Spirit S retails for about € 110 so mine are actually very cheap :(

I understand there is a controversy with the Spirit scissors, given they don't open very wide making them extremely hard if not impossible to sharpen.  On the plus side the spring is exceptionally strong and I think it is a well thought out design.  On MT scissors in the past I have found the spring to bend over the scissors which can permanently damage the spring. This has happened on a Gerber Diesel and Leatherman Wave. Looking at the Spirit's scissors Victorinox seems to have come up with a winning solution on that front.

Well aren't I a dope of a member! Get a Dutch army edition BO spirit, post one measly pic of it sitting on a work bench and then bail! I need to redeem myself! Correct me if I'm wrong but this IS the Spirit X sans crimpers no? The BO finish is perfection. It almost seems polished its so flawless!

Stay multi my friends

It's a Spirit S, not X.

Nice pick, I'm on the verge of pulling the trigger on one from Reinier myself.

Question: Is there any weight difference between the standard Spirit nylon pouch vs. the standard Spirit leather pouch?

And how does the Nylon feel? (thin, cheap, or thick, durable)

I would think that the nylon can tear if someone (my niece? :D) throws the nylon pouch down the road with the Spirit in it. Leather would be more durable and protective, i guess. So the advantage of the nylon would be its lower weight.

Anyone with exact weight measurements of the two pouches?

Ok, that LM badge gotta go...
But the pouch is Bulletproof like the Multitool!

Fits a Handy little Executive,
Swisstool Spirit,
Sharpening stone DC4,
and a Carpenters pencil.

Maybe a stupid question (and maybe it's been asked before), but does anybody know why there's this "gold" look on the side of the pliers on some Spirits (see the one on the left in the pic below).  And how come the "new" Spirits don't seem to have this anymore ? And can this be used to determine the production date from your Spirit ?

And are there any changes made to the Spirit over the years, not in the tool loadout, but real changes, like the plierhead on the Swisstool for example ?
