Eickhorn rescue knives
on: March 16, 2009, 08:19:17 PM
Anyone here own any of the Eickhorn rescue knives?  They seem to do quite a big range, however I have never seen anyone comment on them.

So, how are they?

I've never handled one myself.Judging by the size of them,in my time we wouldn't likely would've worn one on the belt. But it would've had a welcome home  among our on-board equipment.

Thanks Micky, I'm grateful for everyone's kindness to a new boy. I'm surprised there aren't more Eickhorns about. I've got a variety og knives, multitools, rescue knives etc etc & the Eickhorn quality is exceptional although pricy.

Nope, becuase they've copied the Emerson SARK models...

Many of the pocket rescue models share too much resemblance to this: http://www.emersonknives.com/ekSark_BTS.php

I own quite a few Eickhorn made knives, all of which were done for the COLT license UC had years ago. Of those I own only two Rescue Folders...........

The quality is real good on them. They lock up solid, have clean sharp edges, can't really find a fault with them. But they haven't been used. I have had them for years and got them as they were going out of production under this license. I'm a COLT fan so I had to get them along with a few others..........

.........a majority of these are Eickhorn produced.

Screwtape,

No, they are no longer made as UC does not have the COLT license anymore. These were made in 2002. But they are still out there and you can usually find some on Ebay. They made three handle color variants in the Colt line of these particular German made Rescue Folders.....Black, Green, and Orange. Black is about the only ones that usually show up anymore. Orange are the rarest and Green is getting that way.

But even when you find them now the prices have gone up some. I paid around $30-$40 for these two but now if you find them they are in the $60-$90 range.

The Eickhorn-made Cobras and Police Positive folders (seen in my group shot above) can still be had fairly cheap but the Rescues are starting to bring a premium.

I'll keep an eye out but the sorry state of Uk eBay might mean I have a long wait  :o
