What's this?
on: March 18, 2009, 02:13:45 AM

It appears to be a swiss screwdriver with two different sized flat heads.  My guess is for gun adjustment

What, if it's got a swiss cross on it, you just suck it up like a vacuum? Even if you don't know what it is? :D

Heh-heh, I don't know what it is either Neil. One thought though is that flathead screwdrivers for firearms are usually hollow ground. Yours doesn't appear to be.

Don't know if that means anything though. :-\

In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

Something like that :D

OK, I'm not that bad but curiosity got the better of me.  The sheild design is the same as on this erinox SAK.  Another tool I don't know the origins of.

I like how you need a second screwdriver to change the ends around.  What a well thought out and cunning design.  ::) ;)

Isn't it a chisel?

I mean, the handle shape, the proportions, all points in that direction to me.

I know what your saying but its not sharp like a chisel.

Gareth, the screw that holds it in place is a knurled knob and can be turned by hand.  You cynic :P

:P  In my defence all I can see is the slot on top of the screw.  :D  I have to admit though that the knurling makes more sense.

A coworker saw the tool, and said that around '50 and '60, there were similar screwdrivers given with Singer sewing machines to fix and tweak them.
Hope to be useful

Heres some info on Erinox

"It is definitively not a Victorinox  and not a Wenger product. But in the past there were different cutleries in Switzerland producing there own knives. This model is very similar to our Swiss Army standard knife and can be made by one of these cutlerers. We think it is made in Switzerland and no fake. But unfortunately we cannot tell you from which company it was made.

Best regards

Urs Wyss"

I sent an Email to Vic asking about it.

Seems a bit cheeky asking Vic about something that clearly wasn't anything to do with them.  I'm actually surprised you got a response.

Who else could I ask? They own all the SAK companies in Switzerland.

Seems on the same level as asking Leatherman about a Gerber Clutch to me.

I'm just surprised they replied that's all and it was damn decent of them to do so.  :tu:

Seems a bit cheeky asking Vic about something that clearly wasn't anything to do with them.

I would say that 99% of people (in general not on this site) would have said that it was made by Victorinox (or "those Swiss Army Blokes") It's SAK shape, has a shield and cross on it to me that would say Victorinox, it even says Switzerland on the blade. So IMO it is not clear that it isn't made by them, the only thing that might give it away is the Erinox but i'm sure not every SAK says Victorinox on it isn't there Wengerinox or something on some of them? Vic would have been my first port of call to find out something about it too :)

Perhaps I am in the minority then, but I knew that wasn't made by Vic as it had none of the stampings to say so.

I would say all of us on here are in the minority....we can spot a pre date stamp PST at 50 paces in a darkened alley, we could tell you the life story of Tim Leatherman in 16 different languages and tell which tool is which just by feeling them with our elbows....you're just a minority within a minority :D
