154cm on standard Skeletool?
on: March 18, 2009, 08:30:37 PM
I've become a steel snob.  It is really a habit I need to break.  At any rate, I have been eyeing the Skeletools and had a snobbish question:

Is it possible to swap blades from a Skeletool CX to a standard?  E.G., if I got a "replacement" blade from Leatherman and put it onto a standard, would there be any issues?

I just can't bring myself to do 420 steel anymore!  And, yes, I can just buy a CX... but that wouldn't be as much fun.

AFAIK the are totally interchangeable. The downside is that the 154cm blade has a combo edge... :-\

The new 09 Skeletool CX will also have a plain edge blade ;)

1 of the above 2 will be your best option because you more than likely won't get LM to send a replacement blade ::) :D

If they do more power 2 ya :tu:

Where did you hear that?  I wasn't aware of any changes happening.  The 2009 catalog shows the same combo blade.

Weird I don't know how I missed that, obviously I need to up my time here.   :D

I just got off the phone with customer service and they aren't aware of any future changes to the Skeletool line.  The 2009 catalog has been shipped showing the current blades so it would be a bit messy to change things mid year.  I wonder if they are planning to do it in 2010.

I can try and find the email that says it, but that is indeed the case.

The theory is that the partial serration will go better on the "cheap" model because folks that buy the standard version are users who probably won't maintain it properly, and the serrations will give them a usable edge longer, while the discerning people who buy the upscale CX version probably know a thing or two, including how to sharpen.

Leave the dents as they are- let your belongings show their scars as proudly as you do yours.

Glad I have last years reg Skeley :D cause I like the stainless look with the PE blade would like the better steel but I can keep this blade sharp for a good long while anyway :tu:

Guess I'll have to go with a Freestyle CX if I want the PE  :P :D
