Adding a Like button to the forum?
on: August 23, 2023, 08:09:08 PM
Some forums I've been on have the ability to click a Like icon for a specific post to show your appreciation, like Facebook like buttons.

The post will then have a list of member names at the bottom showing who Liked it.

I believe Simple Machines (the program running this forum) has this ability.

Any thoughts of adding this to the MTO forum?

We had it for a while, but honestly it really wasn't all that well used.  When the module we used didn't upgrade with the rest of the software, we dropped it.

Honestly, it is counter productive here anyway.  A forum survives on discussion and when people just click a LIKE button instead of talking, it kills the discussion.

I really don't want this place turning into another FB.

I'm with you and remove my request.

I like the discussions and comments.

It came up on a thread that someone was commenting too often. "The guy" wasn't sure what the protocol was for posting often. Checking for a friend.

I am always happy to discuss things- just because I don't always agree doesn't mean I'm right and you are wrong.  Discussing things is how we move forward.

I hate those forums where the main guy says something and everyone else is like "absolutely, that's 100% true" even when he is completely full of crap and they were saying the exact opposite thing the day before!   :ahhh

I don't see a need to limit anyone's posting unless you are trying to sell smurf pills or something.  I've always believed that a forum was like a living thing and needs to be allowed to grow however it wants to.  That's why we have a lot of off topic posts and derailed threads.  If it went there organically I am more than happy to let it go.

Of course, I'm majorly scatterbrained myself, and frequently jump from topic to topic in my own mind, so it's only natural that I run a forum the same way!

One other thing- if you want to just like someone's post, but can't think of anything to contribute with (many of the intellectual threads here are far beyond me) we do have a Like emoji you can use.

 :like:

We specifically put that one in for folks who missed the Like button.   :tu:

Thinking of something to say doesn't seem to be an issue for me.

Thanks

Okay I see it now.
Sometimes things are lost in translation, it's part of having members from many different countries.
However mostly people just want to do their thing.
At times what they do can really annoy me.
And I have pissed off many members here with new page banana dances and posting 500+ spam a day.
If you play existing games or start your own, a little patience and understanding goes a long way.
Post a pic of your horse and a sak in that thread and I would probably comment.

;)

I'm pretty sure that if we had a "Zoidberg is an ass" thread you'd be the only one to post in it!

Either that or everyone would post in it to argue with the topic!

And post Futurama memes, which I would absolutely love!  :D

Oh you lie.
That does sound a little tempting though.
Still feeling like I shouldn't have pushed for the 'are modders heretics?' thread.

I dunno- I bet you'd get more traffic on a "We Hate Def" thread!

Perhaps we should start a poll on who people hate more?   :P

This seems like a competition with no winners though!   :ahhh
