I was wondering if I might get some advice from forum members,
Today I went to a surplus auction and won a bid on two Leatherman. They were advertised as a Leatherman Kick. When I got home I found one was a Leatherman Sideclip. I've done a little Internet research and apparently this is a collectable now, since it was discontinued in 2004. Would anyone be able to give me some tips on how to date as to which of the four models I've picked?

IIRC the sideclip has handles made of four separate pieces, and each piece has a date code stamped on the inside (format MMYY ? )

Thanks I found it 0498.

Is it the Matt or Polished one?
Polished ones are somewhat rarer and harder to come by.
Either will sell well (if you bought to sell that is), but the polished one will sell quicker and easier and may command a slightly higher price.
The kick is still a nice tool to have, and is discontinued too, but the price could be around half that of the sideclip.
Good find. Seem to be getting harder to find now as most people who know what they are tend to hold on to them.

Welcome to :MTO: Dave  there will be 4 date codes in total but most likely they will all be very close to the one you found  the shiny Sideclips that have been mentioned are all newer ones and have a newer plier head but are, as said, more rare :tu: Great find any way you look at it though :like:

Nice one! :like: Is that actually a polished shiney one, or just a very shiney shiney one. Or maybe it's a polished matte one? Haha!

Shiny as it came from Leatherman
