Title: 84mm SAK with phillips
Post by: Benner on September 02, 2007, 08:53:03 PM
Is there an 84mm SAK that has a phillips which is hinged at one end like the swisschamp, rather than centre mounted?

Can't seem to find one??

I know, felinevet was awesome!

Did me a great deal on my swisschamp, was really impressed.

Do you get most of yours from him?  Haven't found anywhere good in the UK have you?

Tim would be my first choice, but if you need it quick (literally next day) try www.heinnie.com
or http://www.swissknifeshop.co.uk/

But obviously you'll have to pay more ::)

But yeah I have got a lot of stuff from tim, just not anything recently sadly

The thing abotu SAKs is you can never say "They've never done that" because sooner or later, a special, limited or unsuccessful run that you weren't aware of will show up.  They never made an 84mm Super Tinker... but I have one.  They never made an 84mm Compact, but I have two.  They never made SAKs with fluffy scales, but I have several of those as well!

Victorinox and Wenger have such a varied history with so many different models and configurations that I doubt even the Elseners themselves know all of the variations that were available.

I have never seen an 84mm SAK with the in body phillips, but if it's one thing I know for sure, it's that I am not saying it doesn't exist!  I will however state that if that's what you want, then you should try to find a model with a magnifying glass since the phillips is (usually) only paired with it and an LED light.  I doubt you will find any vintage SAKs with LEDs!

You could however stop looking at vintage models and check out something like the Wenger S557:

http://www.wengerna.com/browse/product.jsp?prod_id=11004&cat_id=1&cat_name=Knives&sub_cat_id=84

It is 85mm and has (among other things) the in body phillips.

I don't know why but Wenger just doesn't do it for me like Victorinox.  No reason behind it at all!

Would like to get an old Victorinox as what I have is current issue and it would be nice to have something a little harder to come by.

Will have to keep my eyes open to see if anyone ever sells a custom one, or if an original ever turns up!

You don't know what you are missing without Wengers.  I'd suggest looking up a current model and getting one- the sooner you do it, the less you'll have to kick yourself for waiting!

I know, I am sure I am missing out.

I actually have a Wenger watch which I've had for a while now, so I think I just associate the name with that.  Incorrectly of course!

I agree.  The Wengers are very nice.  Plus Felinevet carries them so there's really no excuse not to have several.  Well, unless you need the money to eat or something.  :P
