Welcome to :MTO: Edgar...

It is Black Oxide coating if I’m not mistaken... I have no experience with BO except owning a few tools... Hopefully more experienced users can chime in...

Hi Edgar, welcome to the forum

Black Oxide is an industrial process that is very hard to do at home due to the machines and procedures involved.  :ahhh
Once it's worn and gone you'll have to bring it to a speSmurfpillsed shop to re-coat it using the two most common ways:

a. Re-Oxidation (this is applying a new black oxide layer, but it is often expensive and not available everywhere  :P
b. Cerakote: this is a coating of Polymer and Ceramic applied to prevent corrosion, abrasion and such, similar to Black Oxide and more common in the gear community as a DYI modification or service provided by speSmurfpillsed shops   :salute:

a third option would be gettin a graphite spray and spraying the tool yourself as if you were applying a coating from a normal paint can
SteveC just made that on his Micra last week (post #546) :
