Well I got my first SAK today, Swiss Army Kut. Never done this before even with the old fieldmaster.
I was using the saw side of the metal file to cut through some ABS plastic and it momentarily stuck than slipped out and went down over my finger hard. That one was more painful than just the blade.

It made a lot more blood come out too.

I underestimated the power of the file, it's really abrasive.

What Mags said! I've a number of souvenir s courtesy of Vic from over the decades but never got one from the file. As Darth would say: Impressive!
-
Ouch. As Doug Marciada from Forged in Fire would say, " It will cut"
Seriously tho, the metal file is a good cutting tool. Good it wasn't much worse :salute:

That hurts looking at it.
The file can be deceptive. It is pretty aggressive.
My blade on my nailclip 580 bit my thumb last week.
I have had my share of cuts over the years. As you said, "Accidents happen."
It goes with the territory when you carry a knife.

I guess now you can open a "file" with the "lessons learned about SAK handling"
In all seriousness, glad it was a lesson learned without major consequences. Even the most experiences SAKfans get cut from time to time, these little bugger sure know how to make you show some respect!! :ahhh
-
Ouch.
How do you now feel about your SC?

More respectful now indeed! :salute: Very capable tool.

I'd avoid salt n vinegar chrisps (chips) for a while!

The FILE did that? :ahhh
Did your SAK come from the glovebox of Christine, by any chance?

Yeah it surprised me too, it was the Metal Saw side tjat got me but I figured it would've just been a small cut or scrape like with sandpaper or accidentally rubbing against the file side but ot cut deep and wide.

I know it hurts. Once upon a time I closed the file to my fingers while using the file tip like a screwdriver. Hope you will be ok soon.
-
That's going to leave a mark. :o
-
When I got my first Alox, a Farmer, it bit me within 5 mins I got it out of the box.
Since then, I've learned to respect the blade :salute:

Ouch, SAKs have strong springs too, from the sound the of the clack it makes I can just imagine. Thanks, it doesn't hurt too much anymore and I've been keeping it bandaged so it doesn't brush against anything.

Farmers can be SUPER stiff out of the box... trifecta of danger with the saw, blade, and awl. The opening snap of the main blade can be downright violent.

Trifecta. Word of the day m'lord. :like:

Pretty sure I learned it from Grandma's Boy

It's a perfectly cromulent word

It was the closing snap that got me though... :D
