Not sure how I am feeling about Zippo and survival matches . There was so discussion about the market driving companies and I'd say this is a clear indication. I don't know, see for yourself.

Saw that as well........very......un-exciting
-
Wow, that was pretty boring.
Zippo, the company famous for using 1700's technology has moved... well.... not quite to the 1800's, but at least later in the 1700's with the same matches everyone else has been offering for years?
And the axe.... I think I want one, but I really hate hollow handles in an axe, and it seems just as awkward as every other axe/bow saw on the market to set up.
The hand warmers are not exactly a new idea either- I have seen those on special for $3.99 when I purchased gloves or hats before at a store called Mark's Work Wearhouse. They were Wind River branded if I recall correctly.
I like my Zippo hand warmer, but the smell of lighter fluid is a bit potent at times, so maybe their electric bean might be interesting.

I was busy cooking or something, heard her yapping about the axe and honestly......never even looked up
Zippo is like the Land Rover of lighters, working with your strengths does not include reverting to to ox wagon level tech, excellent point Grant!

Have they modified the axe or is it the same one that came out a couple of years ago?
The matches looks like its been done a million times before.
Handwarmer and phone charger in one was a bit clever.
The pine tinder rolls I can buy box fulls of at my local grocery store, not exactly new.

I don't see anything different from the axe they used to produce, although I don't think they ever went full scale on production with it did they? I have never seen one in person.
The handwarmer and charger is kind of a good idea, but I am not convinced on it. Of course, I wasn't convinced on the old one either, and this does seem a lot more sensible than filling something with lighter fluid, igniting it and then sticking it in your pocket. My biggest concern with the new ones, especially the small ones is whether it will have enough power to do both, or do you have to choose between fingers and phone?
Again, they are nothing new- the ore I think of it, the more I'm pretty sure I had one of the Wind River ones a couple of years ago.

I've had a zippo hand warmer for years. I use it regularly in winter when walking my dog. Slips nicely in the back of the glove on my walking stick hand as it's always exposed to the cold and I can't wear a super thick glove and hold a walking stick still. I've finally had to replace the burner head on it this winter as it wasn't heating as as well as it used to. The new one is nice and toasty warm again.
Maybe I should invest in some better gloves sometime.

I have gloves that are good enough on their own, but for extreme cold have a small pouch on the back for disposable chemical heater pads. They are awesome and have kept me going on the coldest jobs. The only problem is they are a bit bulky and I had to take them off to make notes or take pictures, something I did fairly frequently.
I used to hang the Zippo pocket hand warmer thing around my neck and tuck it in my jacket to keep my core warm. It was great for that but occasionally when you moved a certain way you would get a nose full of lighter fluid fumes, but better that than being cold! :ahhh

I love my zippo hand warmer :) its really a must have imo for any situation where its cold. I have 2 one black and one silver.
I wouldn’t however buy a battery operated hand warmer... heat and batteries don’t mix well in my experience.

Sorry to reanimate this potentially dead thread, but how come this thread has been at the top of The Outdoor and Survival Forum for me for months? Is it a sticky?
-
Yes, it is. Why, I have no idea.

I'm guessing someone with mod/admin rights misclicked a box when they replied. It has happened in a few threads

MTO has been bought by ZIPPO ?
-
MTO is getting a sprint run of Zippos made up to celebrate!?

Exactly. Heck this thread is from this year. We've seen threads resurrected from further than that.

There's was slightly more exciting that Leatherman's SHOT show video... although Leatherman seems to practice more on their shows. Still, no one did it better than Julie Warner! :o

If a Zippo lighter can start a fire then it's a survival tool and always has been.
