:nothingtoadd:
I'm getting more and more jealous of your collection glen... awesome! :2tu:
Even bumped in a blog of yours, while looking up info about my GAK where you showed your SwisshArK...
Don't even mind starting an owners club of that one... :pok:
-
A Haiku.
Add Mechanikal
The list of us grows bigger
Who don't own Yeomen
-
Another club that I cannot join, but maybe some day...
And Haikus arent my thing. Did they have four words or how did that thing go?
:)
No Haiku club for me either.
-
A Haiku (the last one I promise).
The lonely Yeoman
G-Fiddy wants company
In his one man thread.
(Haiku is a three line poem consisting of 17 syllables (5, 7 and 5). They are supposed to contain a juxtaposition (usually of every day common objects or feelings) to convey how the related items are juxtaposed).
-
A Haiku.
Add Mechanikal
The list of us grows bigger
Who don't own Yeomen
The Yeoman owners club, under the facade of shiny red Yeomen it's secretly a cover-up for the Yeoman non-owners club.

Yeoman is my favorite EDC. All of the most useful tools without breaking the (arbitrary) 3-layer max preference I have. Scissors are an absolutely must for me on daily carry SAK. I sometimes carry Climber or Super Tinker, but I don't like having to choose either corkscrew or phillips. Also, inline phillips is better. Explorer just gets a little chunky in pocket for me. Yeoman is perfect.
-
If mods are considered, I have 2...

I've got a +B Mark IV Yeoman, but Photobucket is being a poopy head tonight, not letting me find a pic. It doesn't get a lot of carrying, in favor of an OHT, bug it rides backup in my daypack.

After admiring Yeoman's from afar, I moved steadily from I really like them to I gotta have one. I was really excited to see a "Buy-it-now" opportunity for a Yeoman with the BSA emblem and jumped at it. It turned out that it was really an Explorer with a Yeoman name on the box (learned about this model after the fact from SAKWiki and more experienced forum members).
Next I purchased a real three layer Yeoman but it was confiscated for Father's Day. My wife and I moved from surprise gifts 27 years ago when we became empty nesters. We are pretty inseparable and prefer not to spend time apart to acquire the surprises. This has continued after Amazon made online purchases an easy option. Each of us selects & purchases (usually online) items that suit us well ahead of the gift occasion and then rely on short term memory loss for the surprise factor. :) I then purchased a second Yeoman only to have it confiscated as well. :) Not to be dissuaded (Father's Day is a ways off), I picked up two more Yeomans that remain available. :)
I really like the Yeoman and am carrying it today.

Love your story Jim, Romantic, sweet and very funny (how short term memory loss becomes a blessing!) :salute: Lovely Yeoman there.

Thanks to Julius (AKA jnoxyd) I now have a fantastic new yeoman. I ask him for the best of the old: crossbow blade, gray magnifier, longer phillips screwdriver as well as the best of the new: scissors, middle placement of magnifier and phillips, hook with file, and then topped it off with new Swissbianco copper scales.

Welcome to the Yeoman Owners Club

Built my Yeoman from an old Compact and a dead Explorer a few weeks ago and I've been using it ever since. I'm glad I was able to give new life to my most often used items and combine them to become my new EDC. I know this isn't a "real" Yeoman, but I'm glad I have this tool loadout on me every day.
-
Very nice. Do you have any pictures of your build process?

If it looks like a Yeoman, and works like an Yeoman, then it's a good modded Yeoman as far as I'm concerned. :like:

At first I built the Yeoman Mechanic, but lately I felt that I don't need the pliers very often. Few months ago I made it a Yeoman by removing the pliers. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181027/67534c5ad58e8809df6e20d8b44de0b2.jpg)

Thanx Myron  after I mod the Yeoman Mechanic to become a Yeoman, I feel that 2 or 3 layers SAK is very comfortable to carry.

I just joined this club with a mod for a "Yeoman" (that counts, right?)
Made from a Compact and an Explorer, inspired by many others here at MTo!

Have someone wanting me to build a Yeoman. Any tips combining a Compact & Explorer? Should be a simple rebuild and I should be able to reuse the Explorer’s rods? Seems a common mod?
-
The Yeoman is my favorite SAK. I have both a factory one with WWP scales and a Syph made one.

Syph does awesome work
The other are the Adaptive Sports scales which I love and have a special place for me. I have a brother who is handicap, not due to a war injury, but in a wheelchair due to severe cerebral palsy. I have seen how different adaptive items have been used and how happy he was while doing different activites.
My Mom and I taking him into the ocean in a special floating wheelchair.

awesome pictures Matt, especially with the contrast of the yellow Yeoman.

Here’s my first Yeoman-mod build. For a customer, but I plan to build a Yeoman WS for myself next.
Was a fun build...shame it’s going to a new home. But I get to keep the Explorer parts which is a bonus.
I took a few pics of the build which I’ll post next.

Excellent stuff Max :like:

Thanks Matt :hatsoff:
I wanted to reuse the bushings and the rods from the Explorer, so took extra-care drilling these out. Used 2mm bit and this little grinding tool on a Dremel to remove 90% of the ‘captured’ rod end, and then drifted the rod out with some gentle taps. Last pic shows my peening efforts (not very pretty).
-
A box of bits...this is the Compact deconstructed. Then Explorer and Compact laid out with the final build order set out.
Planning a Yeoman WS mod next...for myself. :tu:

Nice job, Max. Good luck on the Yeoman WS.

Took some time and lots of test fitting, but came out OK. I’m going to stay with the ‘Yeoman WS’ nomenclature as this seems to have been used before, although not sure if with an awl.
Basically a Woodsman with Combo tool or Explorer Combo tool with wood saw.

So I could not help myself...another Yeoman build today
...well, the first one went to a customer, so what was I to do? :dunno:
Took one reference shot before closing up with the last liner. Interesting picture as it shows all the tools down through 3 layers...just make out the folded scissors. Would be cool to fully skeletonize each liner so you could see right through the SAK.
Donor was a tired Explorer (long Phillips and grey magnifier) and an old Compact I had spare. Transparent red Plus scales to round it off, and pairs nicely with my Yeoman WS.

Ivo, that's a great snag for your first Yeomans. Congratulations. If those are the ones I saw last week on the big auction place, you also got a good price!
Since my first Yeoman, a mod, around June or so, I've really come to love the Yeoman configuration. I made a couple of other extended Yeoman mods (Yeoman WS and Yeoman WS+MS), but I still keep coming back to the basic Yeoman as my favorite. I'm planning on doing another one soon with a different scale treatment.

Thanks jph
I bought them on ebay jph and I did not pay the listed price , I offered $45/each and the seller agreed. :woohoo: :hatsoff:

My first 3 YEOMAN arrived today. The 2 yellow once looking like brand new :hatsoff:
Nice find Ivo! :like: :tu: :tu:

That it is! :like:

I keep coming back to Yeoman as my favorite model. Here is a recent one I modded, then added titanium scales with a copper cross that I found from Australia.

Very elegant. Yeoman such a classic. :like:

Beautiful Yeoman, JPH. It's one of my favorites too. I have a carrier that lives in my EDC bag for those occasions when whatever's in my pocket doesn't have scissors or inline Phillips (Cadet, Pioneer), and a NOS Shelf Queen tucked away...
-
Thanks for the compliments VICMAN, Rapidray, Max Stone & Myron. It's good to know others appreciate the Yeoman!
-
The Yeoman is one of the 3 SAK that will be mod into smaller ones :tu:

I've been wanting a Yeoman for years. When I found out that Victorinox doesn't make them anymore and I couldn't affordably get one I wanted one even more! This weekend I finally got the nerve to attempt my first mod. Started with a Compact and added the mag glass layer from an Explorer and made my first Yeoman. Added emerald green plus scales to make it my favorite color.
-
Looks great, Icepick!

:iagree:
Great job, emerald scales are my faves too

Nice work, Icepick and jph! I too had to mod a Yeoman as prices are too rich for my pocket! It’s a great knife, a more pocketable Explorer - just the ticket!
-
:iagree: Nice job!

Great job, @icepick! Welcome to the Yeoman club, one of my favorite all-time SAKs.

I passed on this SAK at the flea market several times. It was in a Explorer box and I never bothered to open the box. I have no clue why I just kept passing it up.
One day while at that venders stand I picked up the box and opened it :o. Oh my, what the heck! I bought it then came here to ask if it was the real deal. Its a +B with changed scales. I've never carried it but as I was relaxing one day I took it out and have been debating if it would be a SAK I'd like to carry. I've been getting reacquainted with my golfer so for now I think I'll keep debating. Cool SAK but I think its time for me to get a Compact.
-
It looks legit to me, as I have one too. The great thing about the Yeoman is that Philips layer. It makes up for the one thing the Compact lacks, a Philips screwdriver. Nice find ..you never know!
-
I took off the scales when I got it ( a while ago ) and the peeing is legit.
Are the Explorer lovers around? Since I've moved away from the Explorer the Yeoman has me mixed my feelings.
Good point on the phillips tho.

I didn't think seeing a naked SAK would cause a urinary accident !
I've never gotten that excited about a knife. :D

I have an old mag/phillips layer and a newer one. After carrying the explorer, scientist, yeoman and various mods for a time I thought I loved each one, but I am starting to think I just don’t like the magnifying glass enough to warrant carrying the extra layer. I like the phillips of course, but the can opener does the job pretty much 99% of the time along with a plethora of other uses.
I do find it satisfying to start fires with the mag glass but that is so rarely needed - especially if you have a tiny ferro rod in the toothpick slot and tinder in the corkscrew.

Its an odd feeling to stray away from my beloved Explorer. It was one SAK that made a lot of sense for me and one I do like. My Yeoman and Passenger weren't ones I'd carry over my Explorer. They made sense on paper but I never bonded with either. Great SAKs but my Explorer always got pocket time.
My Champion is in another class IMO so I do like to carry it while around the house. As for the mag glass, I enjoyed having it but I finally decided to get a real loop. I believe that was the turning point for me. While I too like the inline phillps I've managed pretty well without it.
I haven't abandoned my Explorer but I'm not sure it'll get quite the pocket time it once did.

It really is a great SAK. I wanted one for so long. Stoked I have one so I can debate with myself the merits

It’s the one 91 mm SAK I can hand anybody and they can intuitively use. Sweet pics. :tu:

Bump! Carrying an old friend today

Sweet Barry

Very nice, Barry! I have not been able to find a good one to add - but I keep looking as it is a great SAK that checks many boxes. :like:

 all! Looking good Swisster!

Thanks for bumping this one, Barry. I have one or two custom Yeomans that I need to dig out and carry. As much as I love the Explorer Plus, the Yeoman is prolly my favorite SAK of all time.
