As promised in the Car boot finds thread, here are some old lamps I had in the cellar. Took some time to find them and regretfully the two glass oldies got broken in the flooding we had last month. (Didn't realize it till now :( ) The ones mirror broke and none of the glass chimneys survived.

The fuel containers are intact and the wick mechanism but one of the mirrors and chimneys are gone. Replacing the mirror is no problem but I don't know where I could find the chimneys.

The only markings are this H at the bottom and 6 one one and 12 on the other.

The red one is made in GDR (=DDR = west Germany) and labeled Bat No.158

There's also a bat on the fuel container lid. >:D

They are all in working condition but require a bit of cleanup, some petroleum and new wicks.
These were used when power went out when I was a kid, now we use flashlights (when you have a flashoholic in the house there are usually a couple of those around :facepalm: ) but I still like them a lot. They are more suitable for prolonged use.
When I go camping or such I usually through a graveyard candle or two (don't know how you guys call these - plastic or rarely glass filled with paraffin wax) in the backpack. These come in various sizes, will burn for hours, are wind resistant and if they do flip over, there's a much smaller chance of something catching fire.

A friend of mine is a candle maker (family tradition for over a hundred years) and he uses old pickle jars and such to make huge outdoor candles. Imagine a large 3 liter jar (or sometimes bigger) filled with wax and turned into and windproof candle. :D Works great on his river raft weekend house. :tu: I'll have him make me a few for this summer.
So what do you guys have for electricity/battery free lighting?

Not sure about replacing the globes on the other two... would the globe from the Bat fit? If so you can order a couple of replacement Feurehand globes and use them?

The globes on the other two were shaped like this and would have to fit inside the small ring seen in the second picture. Not very hopeful about that and if I did find them online I wouldn't trust they'd survive the shipping process. :(

damn shame about your paraffin lamps mate. :(
I have a similar hurricane lamp to your 'Bat', though mine is very modern as I picked it up from a hardware store just last year.

BTW, I don't know if these guys can supply what you need, but they do say they will replace anything that's broken in transit.

Non-electric lighting is something I've been chewing over for the garden recently. I have seen some butane candle/torches which look quite nice, but seem a bit too pricey, but I've also been keeping my eye out for old lamps I can use with citronella oil to keep the nasty bitey stingeys away too :P

A milk carton (or other beverage that comes in a carton) with holes cut into it. The reflective ALU layer on the inside acts as a mirror to increase the amount of light and the carton itself protects the candle from wind. I used one tea candle here but you can fit more or bigger ones.

I went looking for the Chimneys for my glass lamps today. Didn't find any but I did find whole glass lamps similar to mine for
£11 so giving £12 + shipping for a Scottish one probably isn't going to happen. :D Still hoping to find the chimneys somewhere. I know I saw them once, I just can't remember where. :think:
I did buy wicks for all the lamps though. The bag should keep them lit for some time. :D

I've been wondering if you could use the strands from a mop head as a wick, prison-lighter style.
I guess there's only one way to find out. Will report back some time. Maybe.

I now own three feuerehand lanterns (and still can't spell feuerhand properly) and one little red no-name one.
I swear I'll stop buying them now. Wifey keeps saying "you bought another lantern?!" :-[
