Title: Random act of kindness
Post by: scattergun13 on August 23, 2014, 10:10:12 PM
I'm going to do this in the hope that it catches on in some small way. I cannot however, take credit for the idea. SAWMAN actually started it, whether he realized it or not, by sending me something in the mail for no reason at all. Recently I reached out to the membership for advice on a personal matter regarding my k9 and the response was overwhelming and most helpful. In that same spirit I'm going to randomly select a member and send them a small gift just as a way of saying thanks for being good people and for making this site what it is.
If that member so chooses they can reciprocate to someone else, or not. Also anyone can post and send anyone else a small token to demonstrate the solidarity of this MTO family that we all belong to. No one is obligated in any way and I personally am going to try and keep the gift cost to ten dollars or less. Even if it doesn't catch on, I was just looking for a way to thank everyone I possibly could for allowing me to be here. I'm going to send 2 gifts to start, the first goes to SAWMAN in response to his gift to me. The second goes to Aloha, just because. So SAWMAN and ALOHA007 if you could both send me an address, I have something for each of you.
Again, no obligation here, just a way to thank the people who have been there for me.
Sincerely,
Stew...

Just had another idea to get the ball rolling. I will also select one member at random, and make a small donation to MTO in their name. In this case I'm making the donation on behalf of Solomankane.  Soloman helped another friend of ours for no reason at all and I also respect the fact that he serves his country by being in the Italian Coast Guard. Very cool! This donation is for you SK.
Regards,
Stew...

I like the random donation idea even better folks. It's easy to do and it helps us all, just my 2 cents. SAWMAN and ALOHA007, I can send you something or donate on your behalf as well. Just PM me and let me know. Thanks.

Lastly, at the end of the month, I will make one more donation, in one members name, for an amount that cancels out the donation sites pay-pal fees.
Stew...

Incredibly awesome of you to do this. The pay it forward and random act of kindness is a great morale booster and shows that there is still faith in humanity. You are a stand up guy Scattergun.  :tu:

Nevermind, I couldn't wait till the end of the month. I just offset our pay-pal fees on behalf of Grathr and he knows why. I will add an extra 5 dollar donation if Gareth will send us a  picture of himself eating SPAM! The challenge has been thrown down. :pok:

I love RAK.

I love picking up other peoples bill (not people with me),  just a random table at a resturant, or if I see a kid buying something at the gas station.

MY FAVORITE way to do this is if I see a car window is cracked open,  I paperclip a $5 bill to a note and push it in through the window

Very nice touch Detron, I try and do similar things as well. I still want to see Gareth eat SPAM though... :pok:

We're only 20 percent away from this month's goal, this is doable. Anybody else want to pitch in 5 bucks to see Gareth eat SPAM? I sense banishment in my future...

I've just made a donation to the site, and I would like it to be in honour of Ajo.

Assuming the monthly target is made, and if my name is drawn, I would like the donation prize to go to scattergun.

PS. I would also like to see Gareth eat Spam.

I think I need some history on this first.
I recalled reading something on the site where several members talked Gareth into eating some SPAM. That then prompted a movement to see what else they could get Gareth to eat, to which he promptly replied 'NOTHING"! I just wanted to see if we could do it again.
Stew.
PS feel free to make the donation in his name, and thanks to all for getting on board. I'm still floored by Millhouse' post. This is the family that I belong to! :salute: :salute: :salute:

since I asked how to do this in the past,  this is the best place to share that knowledge.

if you log-out of MTO  (I know, weird thought)  you can donate to the site and put the name you want.

so just make SURE you know the name (Capitals, spelling, spaces, etc) I recommend you Copy and Paste it to a text document to avoid goofs

so copy name, paste it somewhere,  log out,  go to donations, and put the name you want in the name box.

easy peasy

Folks, Millhouse just brought this full circle for me. Following his generous act for Ajo, I'm going to donate the remaining amount to get us over the top in my partner's name. This allows me to finally put my sadness about Ajo away and do something good in his name. Millhouse, this was a brilliant idea, thank you.

Anyone else think (like I do) that no where else on the internet will you find a place as kind and full of selflessness as MTO.

I bet forums about kindness and giving have more :serverloft: than we have here, and this place if built around an item that NOTHING to do with kindness

For those who don't know, Sawman started this whole thing about a month ago by sending me a brand new Vic Farmer for absolutely no reason at all. So I cannot take credit for this amazing turn of events that was Sawman's creation. Those who know him are not surprised at all to read this.

Apologies Captain, my mistake. I'll get it corrected. Just for clarification purposes, I did a lopsided trade with the Captain where there was some money left on the table. As is typical of him, rather than claiming the remainder of the leftover money, the Captain asked that it be donated to MTO in Ajo's name. That's what he was referring to and I'm honored to make that happen and even more honored by his gesture.
Respectfully,
Stew...

I wan't to say it here that Scattergun was more than willing to spend more than the trade value was worth just to make sure I got something I wanted. Hes a real class act and was a pleasure to deal with.

Geez, its just a good old fashion compliment fest around here.  :D The best part is it is completely genuine and one act of kindness has blossomed into many acts of kindness and generosity. Makes me feel all warm and gushy inside.  :D

actually,  that is what I love about holding my own Give-aways! it is an act of Kindness, and the winner is random, so it fits.

that is a great idea,  but I recommend we do them apart.  different GAWs means different winners.  (It also means more GAWs, thereby more shining examples of RAK)
RAK ATTACK!
also, I know my 5K GAW will be held as soon as I can determine what to give, and will not run a month (I hate waiting to announce the winner)

also doing your own GAW versus a shared one is that you become a beacon to follow, and though I know you are not after any recognition, many people would like to give it, and you cannot deny them their right to do it properly

If anyone tries to hug me I'll flatten em.

Yes Sir. You're right and that is how I will do it, I'll follow your lead. With that, goodnight all. It's impossible to personally thank everyone for participating but Ajo and I know who you all are. Detron, Captain, Millhouse, thank you from the bottom of my heart. My mere words don't do your actions justice, nevertheless, what you all did means the world to me. I clearly know who my friends are and your loyalty speaks volumes about each of you. See you soon gentlemen.

Sink wouldn't drain then second side filled.  I thought I would fix it but it was lower in the main line.  Called prop management and 45 min late plumber was here.  He snaked the line and unclogged it.  All is good again and the water is flowing freely.

I loaned out my Rebar last week and the serrated blade chipped and bent.
More shocking was how easily it bent back and was to sharpen.
I'm quite disappointed with that.

Speaking of random acts of kindness, I have to single out Sazabi. I won't go into detail but he got me good. It came as no surprise, having known him for some time now. I know that he likes to remain anonymous when he does these sort of things and I very much respect that. His actions truly illustrate what we are about here.
With that in mind, I am currently hatching an elaborate plan to get him back. For anyone interested in the details, it begins as follows.
First I'll need:
1- lifesize nude cardboard cutout of Betty White
1- Miami Dolphins football helmet filled with cottage cheese
3- black ski masks with no eye holes
1- crate of banana peels
1- slightly bent 7 iron
2- morally flexible therapists
1- really good defense attorney
1- interchangeable "safe word", for now it's "babbaganoosh"
3- blind mice
and 1 good alibi.

I would greatly appreciate any contributions to this list and volunteers as well. Please don't tell Sazabi, this is a secret and we're using code names!

Respectfully,
Sphincter Muscle....out!

The title may say Random act of kindness   but this is more of a specific act of unselfishness

scattergun13 basically laid a kindness mine-field here on MTO,  and it is a gloriously treacherous situation.

anyway,   :mail:

so I open my mail and I had a box from Stew (scattergun13) and it had these awesome challenge coins.  anyone who has been around them, appreciates them, and being former military,  they are great!

this is a beautiful MT, and far more than I deserve.  it is hard to top this.

but scattergun13 did top it,  the friendship that has developed between us is the true gift.  the MUT is very nice, but can be bought at the store, what has developed between Stew and myself cannot be bought, sold, traded, or stolen.  it has to be custom built, and is more reliable than any tool.

Stew, you inspired many people to share and give, and you have brightened so many peoples lives

MTO is full of great people, and I can give you no better compliment than to say that you are among the best here.

I Thank you for the kind gift,  and I THANK YOU for my new friendship

I feel that there is so much more to say,  but I cannot put these feelings into words.  if I could, I would be a famous writer.

You mean to tell me I've been nominated for the MTO punishment chicken ???

Thanks etherealicer and millhouse. I donated for what I thought were the right reasons but I have to admit that I would love to win that MUT. If not, then it was meant for someone else.

These friendships are worth way, way more than every tool and gun I own. Every one of them. Today was hard and I got back to my computer to find that my friends were right there with words of encouragement, and condolences for Kye. My family.

Very nice RAK Kam. Enjoy it Aloha, they have many uses other than just pry tools. If kept on a small set of keys, it makes a great immediate impact weapon. Since it's attached to your keys, it's already in your hand. The best weapon to have in an instant attack is the one you're holding at the time, until you can transition to something bigger or better. One quick face strike or slash, redirects an attack, creates standoff distance and can buy much needed time to escape or get out "option B". Well done Kam. :salute:

I did take the picture, but it was a pic of the whole SAK, and I just cropped it focusing on the shield.  I can't get good close up pics like some others here with skills ;)

You're very welcome and thank you for helping me with that other deal. I would respectfully ask that everyone please stick with me, I have a lot going on right now but I haven't forgotten anyone on the RAK list.
Santos, your item is on my desk ready to go out, Millhouse, your item is on the way to me still from the seller and, bmot, your custom should go out next week. NeillCurrie, I'm finalizing your GAW package as we speak and Etherealicer your 2nd of 2 small tools came in so I will get it out as soon as I can. I got in a bit over my head here guys but it will all find you and thanks for your patience.

Also, Millhouse RAK'd me recently with some custom chocolate from his neck of the woods. That's 2 years in a row now that Millhouse has made my daughter the most popular kid in school. Thank you my friend, she is sending a thank you card along with the item. I also stole some of it, man, that's good stuff! :D

Not tooting any horns here, I want to get the word out.  A brother and fellow rider here in Grand Junction was recently involved in a terrible accident that left him on the pavement not breathing with no pulse until CPR was performed on him.  An SUV pulled out in front of him as he was accelerating around 55 MPH.  He struck the driver side rear side and the impact threw him into the quarterpanel, puncturing his lung.  The SUV's rear wheel was severed from the vehicle and thrown clear.   This was over two weeks ago, and he hasn't woken up because the shock would kill him, he's medically sedated.  Since the accident, He's had at least two pelvic surgeries, one skull operation to relieve pressure, and a facial reconstruction surgery today to mend the fractures in his face.

There is a benefit for him at Grand Junction Motor Speedway on Saturday November 15, we are calling it Brach Jam(his name is JD Brach).  Three live bands, free soda, $25 entry.  All proceeds go to JD's medical bills.  A few local businesses are helping too, my company is donating a few pork shoulders.

I sincerely want no recognition, please, but I wanted to get the word out to any who might be interested.  I have a 1982 Honda Goldwing interstate that I am into for about $1000.  It's worth triple that.  I am auctioning it off to the highest bidder, and I am donating all cash paid for it over that $1000 to JD's medical bills.  If you are anywhere near Western Colorado and have the means, please consider it.  This poor man has two young kids and a very respectable business, he's in his early 30's.  His medical bills are stacking up like crazy.  If you want to enter the auction, let me know.  I will post a link to the auction here as soon as it's up.  I think we might try it on facebook, but it will probably end up being live at the benefit.  I still have to install about $300 in parts to get the bike back on the road because I was rebuilding the brakes when I made this decision. PM me if you are interested!
