You have it worded great :tu: all of us mods will support and help any way we can if we are able, just ask
What month are you planning for this challenge? That always helps others decide if they want to join or not :tu:
What a GREAT idea👍
I have two, my original and a Heritage model.
I am in for a challenge, but will not be available till after the March Opinel event.

I love the Micra, and it's easily my most carried Leatherman over the last 20+ years. The "only" part makes it a challenge. In in! :tu:

....count me in too, please - the micra is on my duty keychain everyday, plus a pst II - looking forward to just use the little gem in may ;-)
greetings from Germany
I haven't carried my Micra in many years now. Used to carry one in my change pouch when I worked in a prison. Not carried it much since. Might be fun to get one out and try it out for a month.
I'm now doing anything in May, except gettin' older, so sign me up.

Well, gra-farmer, I definitely couldn't take anything into the prison. The Micra just seemed to fit into my change pouch and never got searched. 🙄
It's be 23 years since I was retired and I've picked up a couple more Micra's since then.
It should be fun breaking the old girl back out for a while.
Hoo-we, in at number 6 again.
It's gonna be a fun month.
EBay hadn't been an option for them since probably 2009
I hope you can find one for a good price, Crunchie :salute:
My “BAD”, did not know! ☺️
Of its cool  I just remember how bad it was for them back then :( it made being a collector or user of anything sharp and shiny much harder for them
Loop, how do you like that sheath? I've had one in my Amazon cart forever and can't make up my mind about whether it's worth it or not. It sure would be nice to keep my Arctic Micra from getting dinged up since I love the color so much.I have not carried it this unit YET!
I have not carried it this unit YET!
I do carry (pocket) my slip joints in a sheath and plan to carry the Micra in this sheath for the May challenge
I will rub it down with Mineral Oil first and allow it to dry as it feels dry to me today.
If you have the Arctic, that is a nice frosty color, I WOULD protect it and the XS sheath will do that.
And, if I find a NAVY in new like condition it will be sheath carried as well.
It is a perfect fit.
Here are some pictures for you. To compare.
I carry a 58 Vagabond daily in a small RoughRyder sheath from SMKW. The Micra fits in that as well.

For a $50 Micra the LM sheath seems a smart move. Otherwise the RR from SMKW is a good cart add on if you are needing to round up for the free shipping.
And, my other is a Heritage model, rides in the XS sheath, and this morning I dressed it up with a lanyard to make it easier to extract from my pocket, in MAY😉

For now, my lust factor has been dialed down 👍
I help where I can! 😁

Plus Opinel’s are less expensive than AWL SAK models.
The N08 is most popular, the 6 is pocket friendly, I like the Walnut. Also, acquired the N09 for my XXL hands. And they have a nice folding saw and a folding FILET KNIFE, great for Montana Trout 😜😋. And even kids models and kitchen kits.

Glad to have you on board
So I thought I would practice with Micra before the challenge and give a few ideas on what to post.
First up fire lighting
So the Micra has a chisel grind on the blade which for right handed people, it is difficult to do those nice curls in wood, as can be seen below...it bites too deep
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240204/60e0ada2a1bf5d5c34ff96dde98f3f41.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240204/9e412c56404ce0432cdb3d45c46592d7.jpg)
So you have to change hands to get the curls you need....so now I need to practice left hand carving....
In the end fire lit, and moving on to the next project....well it is solar panel Sunday for me...now not to fall off a roof
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240204/81bd3f8ab97f55c949226a3623e553ef.jpg)
The Micra looks so small, on the panels, and I have 200 metres of wiring to sort out :multi:

Can't wait to follow this challenge :woohoo: I might even participate  :D
You should join....sign up you know you want to....
Some more pictures to wet your appetite....food prep
I wanted to see how the Micra was compared to the classic.....the cutting comfort was soooo much better, but the chisel grind makes it difficult to keep the cut straight.....but it is a more aggressive cut and made short work of everything.
I may regrind the edge to a double bevel???

Oh!!! That looks so, so refreshingly GOOD!!!
I'm in! The Micra was the first Leatherman I ever bought. I carried it for a long time until I tried to mod it and messed up the Chicago screws. I managed to fix it with the Loki wrenches, but I've not carried it in a long time. I can replace the Fiskars scissors and Manager from my keys for the Micra. This is gonna be fun! :salute:Good to have you joining us :-)

Hi ElevenBlade, happy to follow your advice, these challenges are good fun and its interesting just to see how far you can push a small tool.
Looks as of I'm gonna have to bow out for next month. Got some medical issues that might keep me from the challenge.
I am sorry to hear that, keep looking in on the challenge and if you want to add a few pictures of your Micra please do. My fingers are crossed that your okay and will be able to join in.

Hello
Today is day 1 so here is my first pic. Pretty much my first EDC on a daily basis.
Now I am off to the west island of 'Stralia tomorrow where judging from newspaper stories any form of MT with any form of sharp something will be frowned upon by the local constabulary
I think it best not carry anything then and as I am travelling with cabin baggage only even wiser.
At the start then I will be back on day 6 with a bunch of catch up pictures if that is ok with the rest of the team. I have a few Micras to share pictures of.
PD
I’m going to sneak into this one, if there’s room.

Day 1
May is actually a horrible month for me to do a challenge, but there is no way I'm going to miss the inaugural Micra Challenge! The Micra is, hands down, my favorite Leatherman... no, my favorite multitool! It was also my first Leatherman waaay back in '97, and I have been carrying one ever since.
I'll be away from my computer for several days this month, and I will also be in a location that doesn't allow any sharp objects for a week. I'll do my best posting a daily pic, sometimes from a hotel. :ahhh
For today's pic, this will be my daily carry. I bought this one 5 years ago when I finally retired my original Micra that I had been carrying for 20 years. The black paint shows pocket wear much quicker than stainless, but I don't mind. 🥰

Yes, I am just now seeing this thread. Some great photos and uses thus far! But if y'awl have some room for an 11th-hour entry, I have a couple-few Micras that may be itching to see a little action, and I could use something to keep my mind on this month.

HelloNice carry. I hate how things that use to be common carry are now vilified. I feel so naked when I have to go without at least a keychain tool.

So ahead of the start of the challenge, I have been carrying the Micra the last few days...just trying to gauge the level it can be pushed....I love seeing the small tools tested. Usually it is surprising how much they can handle.
...some simple gardening to start, but I am just about to start a complete home build this month....so fun times ahead.

I might poke around eBay and see if there are any interesting Micras floating around.:ahhh
I'm still following here even though I had to bow out for this one.
I've been banned from the eBay since the boss lady retired but I picked this one up some time ago. Appeared to be a commemorative from the ISA of some sort.

I've seen people say that early Micras cut much better than recent ones.I'll do a little compare and contrast tomorrow.
My limited experience with paracord, I have found scissors to be a fail.I use scissors more for finish work. For cutting a smaller piece off a hank, I typically use a blade.
Appeared to be a commemorative from the ISA of some sort.A very unusual Micra! :like:
I like that, quite unusual :)
At least I have memorized where the blade is within the tool.
Day 2
I opened a lot of mail at work today. About 20 minutes of opening mail in a long unattended inbox.
So far… I like the small blade, dare I say, better than a Victorinox Classic. However I do find it bothersome to open up, especially when doing so several times.
At least I have memorized where the blade is within the tool.
Many owners of the Micra do not notice that blade is a chisel grind blade.Until you pointed it out, I never noticed that.
Enjoying a little dark chocolate.

I rarely use any MT/SAK scissors of than Victorinox, but the Micra scissors performed well on this container of Costco mixed nuts.
Whew! Dodged an impulce purchase.
Day 2 of 30:
Home with 2 sick kids today, but I did use the scissors to open a bag of my secret candy after the kids all went to bed (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240503/1b2518e0fea03263408893fd772dbfbe.jpg)

DAY 3
So a sad day yesterday, it was my father in-law's funeral, but a nice way to remember his life, talking to his friends and the family, having a huge number of photos on a slide show and 16 hour play list of his favourite music, compilation of both painstakingly created by my wife.
Typical of a wake, there was too much food and drink, so this morning some calming lemon balm leaf tea... harvested by the Micra, before heading to the office.
God bless you dad, I'll look after your little girl always xxx (my wife and best friend)

Then I had to look up the word "comedogenic". I know what "come here dog" or "come dog" means. But comedogenic means acne-producing.

Day 3
This morning I helped a friend disassemble some chickens, I used one of these Micras (not sure which one) on two of them, but no pics. So, funny enough, this evening for dinner we wind up at Chic fil A. :D
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
Another easy task for my Micra.
Obviously a little bit slower than getting out a Free series blade or package opener, but the extra two seconds didn’t really affect my life too much.
Still managing fine using just the Micra.
I thought it would mean funny, like comedy-generating.

Had to cut a couple zip ties today. Those things sure can be a pain in the rear, eh?
Pssst, hey, Leatherman Tool Group! Look at this!Is that a Rev package opener transplanted into a Micra? I can see such a thing working!
The blue is hard to see, but the rule markings are much clearerNicely done! :like: One downside to the Lexan is despite looking cool, it makes the ruler much more difficult to use.

Day Six
I’ve found the secret to carrying a Leatherman with saw, wire cutters, and one-hand opening blade for emergencies, but still sticking to the Micra Challenge.
Pair the Micra with something you really don’t want to get dirty, then you’ll always try to get jobs done with the Micra first.
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
:iagree: that is why if I have something nice, I have to not companion carry similar tools.
I really like the garage Leatherman....
Good stuff, sir. I prefer the Classic's scissors over Micra's, mostly for detail work like cleaning up skin boo boos, but that is wholly a subjective thing. It is fun to see someone carry the same knife/SAK/MT for many years, as I frequently switch things up just to keep it fresh.
It looks like the Buck 505 is discontinued.
:salute:
I think that's mainly due to my primary use of them (trimming my nails).
day 6 bonus use :woohoo:
opened bag of meal worms for the Blue Bird feeder. The tear line did not work as planned, the scissors of the Micra opened cleanly and trimmed the ragged tear. [ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]

Managing the children this morning, and they wanted to do rock painting, having the stainless Micra, I definitely needed a little colour.

Day 6Crab?
The Air Force was pretty strict about not carrying anything in your pockets that would make your uniform pockets bulge even the slightest bit (including your keys). The Navy was sort of like that, but their concern was primarily cigarette packs in shirt pockets and Copenhagen et. al. cans in back pockets.
@Farmer X - I am sorry to hear your loss, my wishes to you and the family at this time
Day 6
Here's the little red Micra that belonged to Mrs. FX again. I'll be carrying it more than I thought, as a way to keep her close to me...she passed away yesterday. It should acquire a fob tomorrow, as fobs make extraction from pockets easier.

Day 9Nice picture.
A walk in the park
I like how lightweight this is. :tu:
Nice haulThanks! I'll have a picture of them in the Alox Forever thread soon.
Day 9
I used my Micra to open a birthday gift from Leatherman.
Was the case the gift, or was there something inside it?
Garlic bread :like:I like a good garlic bread, too!
Not sure the point of the cover other than collecting gunk. They do look pretty cool as long as they don't collect too much gunk.
Day 10
...many thought me weird for having a HUGE KNIFE, in my pocket and then more so for the tiny tool to repair a
watch band.
Huge knife... ::) ::) ::)
They would have run screaming at my 4 inch bladed spyderco resilience!
Well done on being the guy who fixed the pizza issue, and for being the prepared gentleman who fixed the ladies' watch. :tu:
May not associate with those folk again. 🙄

Day 10
Last week my better half bought me a micra I had been looking at on ebay. The ad said for parts, and 7 available. That evening I received an offer for $5, it was the last one. So she hit buy now! We didn't look at/ or see pics.
It looks great , almost no wear or damage, except one of the lock/ stop tabs is broken off. Still, it's cool.

Another great day, y'awl!
Day 10
I tested the Micra's curious little tweezers today. They grab well enough, but they are a little awkward to use. I awlso find them a little on the flimsy side. It's no wonder Leatherman extended the height of the one scale to protect them a little.
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
Day 10
Busy day, 😌 but not cutting, no scissors, not filing, no cap lifting, really boring.
Then joined a group at a local winery, outdoors concert, wine and other beverages and pizza. Along with folding chairs.
First, the pizza was not fully cut, the big stockman handled that…
Then one of the ladies unfolding her chair, snagged her wrist watch, and the band pin popped off.
The MICRA medium flat blade, fit perfectly and inserted and guide the pin into its hole on the watch case.
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
Sorry, no pictures at the scene, many thought me weird for having a HUGE KNIFE, in my pocket and then more so for the tiny tool to repair a watch band.
So I slid my chair down the way for a better view of the country music band. May not associate with those folk again. 🙄
I'd rather have both handles have the tiny cut-out, instead of having the tweezers on one side, with the giant cut-out.You and me both!
Opening an Amazon package. Shocking, I know.New multi inside?
It seemed that people are more used to Leatherman than SAK nowadays. That's an interesting assertion. I've never been specifically asked for either, but I've been able to break out SAKs in very mixed company with little worry. I guess that when you open up a screwdriver or scissors, that's somehow a little more socially acceptable. Carrying a fixed blade in stoopid Michigan, not so much. :twak:

Day 11
Let's say your task is replacing an existing outlet, wiring, and junction box.
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
The 2D Phillips was a little more up to this job than the flathead was. In fairness, I did break out a dedicated screwdriver, but that was solely in the interest of speeding up the process.
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
The Micra lacks a tool that is suitable for bending the ends of the wire. But if you're in no hurry and don't treat it too roughly, it could handle every other aspect of this particular job.
You might be able to get a new one as a warranty claim.
 Did you get flack for having the slipjoint?
Day 10That looks yummy
Garlic bread :like:
Day TenI find myself often surprised by what the small tools can do
Tried a task today that I didn’t think the Micra would cope with. Twisting a fastener with the “large” flathead, which I expected to be too narrow. Luckily, it was fine.
Like so many of my jobs on nights, it was done one-handed, above head height, and with only a headtorch for light.
It’s slightly easier with the package opener on the P2 or P4, but perfectly manageable with the Micra.

Bonus shot - the Leathermans I’m carrying tonight.

Day 9 of 30:I like that blue color.
Rode in the pocket all day until I needed to open this bag of ice to put in the ice "maker." it quit working a while back, and after fixing it a few times, I gave up and have just been filling it with bagged ice. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240510/a438a1fcfc6179b4ac8a7c6c844f38ae.jpg)
Day 9Good choice
I enjoyed a Modelo Negra tonight.

Is it just me or is that plug socket so expressive :D:rofl: I guess it is. Thanks for the kind words!
Love the picture Farmer X
Out for mother's day lunch with the family! That sign is hilarious. I bet the lunch was tasty, too!
Today was a suit and tie day.Believe it or not, in my awlmost 46 years on this Earth, I have never worn a suit. A U.S. Navy dress uniform is the closest I've ever come to that.
I forgot I had this Micra like tool with a SHEFFIELD label. And it has a can opener in place of the tweezers. Good call!
I had the micra in my pajama pants pocket, so I handed it to her to use to pry the tab up while I snapped a picture.:like:
:like: I feel neglected, I live in the UK and didn't know this existedDo not fell neglect, it is labeled Sheffield, but not England made. Has a China label on opposite side.

Then getting old futons into the car to take to the tip
Hello to day 12.
today is a hard to see and hard to get Micra.
not used very often and then only for pics !
It's been a crazy busy day, clearing the home...I feel your pain. That's one of those tasks that can really feel like work.
The key ring is a feature, they say.:iagree: I tend to think of them as being "just there." If they're on something that sees regular carry, I find it much more useful as an attachment point for some paracord.
I find that to be a double edged sword.
Had a craving BBQ...Now you have me wondering what effect BBQ sauce would have on a carbon blade.
Not used very often and then only for pics !I can see why. Very cool!
It was our 2nd 80° day of the year...I'd take that. Here, we had highs in the 50s very recently.
Day 13
Today's carry

Day ThirteenNice job. Hope you sat out and enjoyed the weather after.
Not much happening today.
Still warm in the UK, so tightening a few screws on some garden furniture.

Day 13
Ran my hand under a desk and got a splinter stuck in my finger. :ahhh Not the first time this happened either
Day 13
Had a splinter, the tweezers helped me get it out of my finger.

Micra slor driver worked well to clean the vents of the Weed-eater

Ran my hand under a desk and got a splinter stuck in my finger.
Had a splinter, the tweezers helped me get it out of my finger.Micras to the rescue! :tu:
Opened a new bag of cat food...That is a very frequent occurrence in my house.
Today definitely not a user.Way too cool! :like:
Opening a fresh bag of coffee beans.I've all but given up on my grinder (because it's a noisy little smurfbird), but coffee is of paramount importance.
My grinder is a Wilfa Svart.I might just have to look for one. But I think an old-school hand cranked job might be more appealing to me.
Trying to open an emergen-c failed halfway.Tear notch fail, it seems. I've had way too many of those.
Micras with polycarbonate shells...wear way too easily.Indeed they do. My blue one has a little wear. I probably won't go out of my way to pick up another polycarbonate Micra unless it's NOS.
With a few snack bites to ease the humbling event. Now you have me wanting peanut butter M&Ms! And of course I went to the store last night...
Do you refrigerate once open?
Filed a sharp corner on a fingernail
Can you believe that grown men and women actually post about this stuff on the interwebs - and enjoy it?
Its glorious!

Day 15
Freed this Pioneer X from its package. I'll probably carry it a lot next month during the Alox Addict Challenge.

DAY 16
Given up on the house build today, needed a break....so have gone to work in the office....just finished a 4 hour team meeting and now lunch...
The Micra had a buddy to help with lunch today, a mod of a spoon in the bit holder works really well.
That spoon looks good. Have you seen the Opinel picnic sets with spoon and fork attachments?Yes I have, but I made this first...I started making bit holder mods for the MUT, but the skeletool lends itself so well.
Powernoodle Day 16
(https://i.imgur.com/NnSztPw.jpg)
Thank you for the insight Power Noodle!
Would seem the dates would be much more beneficial than the poor choice I made last night of a handful (small) PeanutButter M&Ms 🙄
1 - 2# bag to be delivered Thursday (tomorrow)!👍
Do you refrigerate once open?
Actually not a bad price if comparing with my goto M&Ms.!!!

I have a Micra that lives its entire life sitting in my bathroom cabinet.Hope it gets oiled regularly! Though I seem to remember Leatherman tools coping with salty air okay.
Freed this Pioneer X from its package.I'm still on the fence about that shade. Maybe it'll grow on me as you show it next month.
@FarmerX. As discussed the custom Executive built and tried to described. Picture gives better insight.:like:
Popped the battery cover off my guitar tuner. Is that one of those jobs that clips on the headstock?
Good stuff, peoples.:iagree:
Day 15 of 30:
Man, I need to set a reminder in my phone for each evening or something. Used the scissors to open a couple of packages of black goodness

Used the scissors to open a couple of packages of black goodness.
I hear it's pretty good for cheap coffee, but I never got around to trying it.I'd hazard a guess that it's okay in conventional form. The little single-serving instant packets are okay if you need one day's worth of coffee and can only spare a dollar.
Its a Snark. It’s the best kind that I have ever used.I have to wonder how well they work on a Fender.
The build is on going...Hopefully it progresses nicely. Save for maybe some quick plumbing jobs, all work on my present house has stopped.

Personally it's too strong for me for breakfast. It's almost like espresso.
They work perfectly fine on a Fender. The sold body doesn't make it any less accurate.I hadn't considered that the solid body could affect a tuner. I was thinking more that the shape of a Fender's headstock would give less surface area for the Snark to grab on to.
Remembering to move all my gear back into the pockets they live in.That's one reason I'm glad I slimmed down my carry: chances of finding that some of it got an unintentional bath are greatly reduced.
Cutting the tag off some new scrubs.I couldn't at all see myself wearing scrubs, but if I did, they'd be Carhartts. :tu:
Day Eighteen
Some poor people still believe Surge scissors are the best…

At a wedding with my gorgeous wife.... unfortunately driving so 0% alcoholic beer.

No kidding, she is! :tu:
If only they made it out of cellidor, :-\Cellidor would be a worthwhile upgrade. Even better: Micarta of G-10.
Had to cut some 550 cord, scissors did well.Plain black? And I've found Micra scissors to be less than ideal for paracord.
Reading Farmer's and Eleven's discussion about guitars and tuners inspired today's post.:like:
Sometimes you need a bigger ruler :-(I'm guessing that's a very big Diesel engine?
A new CASE arrived last night !Is it a 4138?
Used the Philips driver to take out the screws for the grate. The 2D Phillips works surprisingly well!
I like the Micras with the extra shell. It covers the massive gap that the tweezers leave on regular Micras. And they look cool, too! :like::iagree: on awl counts.
Is it a 4138?
I see my chair cushion was left outside over night, dripping wet, moved to the porch swing and from under the cushion my MICRA, dripping wet!!!!Hope it got a little oiling after its misadventure. Good thing you found it!
A gift tin with a micra.:like:
Sorting the ducks out which are huge now... pictures will follow.... Maybe some guinea pig photos, too?
As my belly is going outward my pants are going downward.I have the opposite problem: I have (unintentionally) lost so much weight over the past six to twelve months that I've dropped two waist sizes.
Needed some red alox scales for projects.I'd love a Rally with Alox scales. Just sayin.'
I can’t carry my Micra without getting it confiscated, so it’s hanging out in my hotel room ordering room service.I hope it didn't max out your credit card! Sorry, I had to.
Carrying these two golden oldies now.How old are they?
Put the Micra to rest for another day...I'm really liking that light blue! :tu:
Ill child...Hopefully the little one is better by the time you read this.
Opening the blade is much more fiddly than with a SAK.:iagree: Maybe we'll see a Micra with outside opening tools one day?
I used the micra flat screwdriver to open up the flint holder(?), to clean it out.I always called it the flint tube.
Day 22That is one itty-bitty ratchet! :like:
Another glamour shot.Nine points right off the bat! :tu:
:iagree: Maybe we'll see a Micra with outside opening tools one day?
Day 23
A luvly 73F at high noon here today. Enjoying the slight breeze, and an apple snack. The CASE handled slicing as the Micra was not large enough to cleanly slice.
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
The pick/file remains the most used implement on my lil tool. 😉
I usually cut small bite-sized wedges from one side of the apple, through the core, across to the other side. Smaller blades are fine with this method
I'm being admitted to hospital today. First of 4 operations. I should be out this afternoon.
Opened up some more coffee this evening...A very important task!
Little Baby Brother with Big brother which I have been carrying this week for a change. The Micra is absolutely dwarved by the Surge!
Dicing boiled chicken breast for a dog with a dodgy tummy.
I'm being admitted to hospital today.I hope both Crunchie's pup and RP are feeling much better now.
We definitely wish you the best and a speedy recovery. (https://emoticons.datahamster.com/grouphug.gif)

More great stuff, y'awl!
Day 23
The best tool for breaking the seal on nicotine pouch cans is one's thumbnail. Second best? The tip of a Micra's file.

This was the last of the single cans of spearmint. But y'awl need not worry about me...ten more cans arrived today.

Day 22
I managed to lock myself out of the house yesterday (don't ask). The Micra's screwdrivers were used in a failed bid to gain re-entry. Fortunately, they didn't get tweaked.
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]
The cap lifter is the only tool I haven't used yet. That should be rectified shortly.Show contentI had to employ drastic measures to gain re-entry. Again, don't ask.
