Post by: Sparky415 on July 04, 2015, 04:23:48 PM

How do you Guys hold your Axe handles when you are working on them with a spoke shave?

Found this on youtube

I might have to remake it as I split the top board when I put the screws in  :-\

ps; the extra holes in the sides are so the cam/wheel can be adjusted to take different sized stock
And there’s extra holes in the base for attaching it to other work surfaces   ;)

Maybe I’ve over thought the idea, maybe I should have just tried the wide wheel on my bench
Ah well I will give it a go and see what happens

Guys

I was watching the video and wondering why he was struggling with two cams, and not using just one. Nice that he included the whole process as he tried new things and refined the method. Very simple idea, way simpler and space saving than the shaving horse I saw Ben Orford using in an axe handle making video. Benefit of yours is you haven't had to drill so many holes in your bench!

I have been struggling with clamps and don't have any space for a shaving horse so thought this was as great idea  :salute:
I already have a couple of holes in my bench for 'bench dogs' so I'm not bothered about the holes but I wanted something I could use elswhere  :tu:

It´s not really "his" idea, also nothing new. Holding stuff that way is used in the metal industrie since a long time, mostly on a mill for irregular shaped objects that couldn´t be fastened in a vise.

But it's good of him (and Sparky415) to publicise it to those who may not have experience of these techniques.  :tu:
