Title: What about the red??
Post by: Monrogue on July 11, 2013, 03:22:08 AM
I've enjoyed the black SAK thread very much, but I've never noticed a thread for all the classic red colored SAKs.  So here it is :D  Mods:  if there already is a thread dedicated to this, please feel free to take the necessary action, but please go easy on me   Let's see some pics of those sweet red SAKs (Alox included as well)!   :climber: :tool: :sak:

I will start with my favorite, and only, red SAK:  my Syph custom Yeochamp;D

I was red-only for a while, and didn't quite understand why one would want anything else, but I've since grown out of that. Here is my current red SAK collection excluding stuff that I am selling, and including my most used/loved knives (SwissChamp and Cybertool 34).

Sweet collection of red goodness Brian, and thanks for the reply :salute:  I'm beginning to think nobody loves the red anymore...which I know isn't true :)

I'm going to slightly derail this thread from the get go and say how much I love my translucent red Huntsman. 8)

(http://i581.photobucket.com/albums/ss260/gareth_SAKs/DSCF1099.jpg) (http://s581.photobucket.com/user/gareth_SAKs/media/DSCF1099.jpg.html)

I have to say I didn't think I would like it all that much, but pics don't really do the translucent scales enough justice.

I suppose I'll allow it Gareth ;)  I would have included the translucent red as well had I thought of it.  Thanks for including it :salute:  I've never seen any in person, but I've seen pics here and they do look nice.

What model is that Gareth?  I'm not sure I've noticed that one before, and the nailfile I think is what throws me off

Oh very cool man :tu:  Is it shorter than 91mm?  It looks like it to me, but that could just be the pic playing games with my eyes.

A few random pics of red SAKs from my small 'collection' will follow over a few posts due to the limit of pic attachments per post.

No pics at the minute, but most of my pocket carried SAKs are plain red or translucent red.

Red might be the universally accepted colour for danger in most walks of life, but when it comes to using a pocket knife around non-knife people, red is the universal colour for "don't worry, it's safe"  ;)

Translucent Cellidor looks gorgeous to me, as long as is solid through (like this one appears to be). Personally I cannot stand the latest model hollow scales especially when they show in all their empty splendor.

Still, red Alox is my most favorite by far :gimme:

Well the only real reason I've stopped (for the foreseeable future anyway ;)) is that I got my two customs done finally.  As a result, I technically have no further need to buy anymore SAKs, other than to collect them.  However, I'm not in the position to become a collector right now.  I actually only have a total of 3 SAKs, the 2 customs and an Executive.  I would consider getting a red Pioneer possibly, just to have a red one, but I don't see them available much.  I probably am just not looking hard enough as I haven't looked for them but only once when I was hoping to get a red one and ended up getting a black one instead.

Since red is the definitive 'Swiss Army' color, it shows up on every size and pattern.

Karl, I think if you will ever show us your entire collection at once some of us may be left speechless for a while :salute:

Is that collection along the lines of Chako's Leatherman collection?  That is one massive collection :o

Great photos, Top Gear!  :tu:  Where were the German ones taken?

Those pics were taken in a small town (about 160 residents) called Beilstein, it's located next to the river Moselle, about 4 miles to the south-east of the city of Cochem.  We planned a short stop there on our way to Cochem, but ended up spending more time there than in Cochem itself, because it's a very beautiful little town.

You can find more info about Beilstein here (http://www.beilstein-mosel.de/englisch/beilstein/index.html).
