The best whistle, IMO, is the Ultimate Survival Technologies Jet Scream whistle! I have a few Fox whistles, and I think that this is the loudest by far!
I'd say so..it's pretty damn tough... I have one on the boat, and while docking the boat one time, my 235 lb self stepped on it and it was fine! :)
Ben, none better than this one for the $$$. I have several of them. :tu:

Benner get an Acme police whistle its a bit bigger than you want but it looks nice, has a 1mile+ range, its British made, and very high quality. I have one and I am very impressed with it.
Ben, a tip - don't get a dog whistle :D
I just picked up a Fox 40 tonight at walmart. Those things are expensive for a plastic whistle($5.50). I plan to try it out tomorrow.

They are about £6 in the shops over here from what I have seen.

How much are Acme whistles over there? I know I got 2 Metropolitan police whistles for $7 at a pawn shop before the owner raised the prices and they usually cost $15 -$30 on the internet.

I tell ya its the hair!! I am bald and I am infatuated with the spikyness. It looks like a little forest of trees for the gnomes. It can't be for gnomes as Ben's not much taller than one :D

OK I got to ask. What is with the little glass bugs. Where did you get tem? and what do they signify?
I allways like to hear stories about that kind of stuff. Usually it has a really cool significance.

is there anything made by atwood that doesn't have some kind of insane price tag on it? that's just rediculous :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh why do they cost so much?
Has anyone tried one of these?
http://www.botachtactical.com/acto20wh.html
I would but shippings $14 from that site.
I have one of these, sorry but I can't for the life of me remember the name. Most outdoor shops will stock it though. Robust as heck and come in a nice range of colours.
Though as you can see the colour does wear a bit. :-\
Well mines very much like Gareths and it was a Life Venture :tu:
Boyo claimed my one ::)Well mines very much like Gareths and it was a Life Venture :tu:
I have to say that the ones Neil passed out at the meet-up have a very pleasant set of notes to them. Thanks again for those mate. :tu:

Ah, that's what it was called, I couldn't remember. That pic must be a little old now as almost all the colour is gone from the whistle. One thing to note about these is that they are really easy to over blow. A very gentle puff is all that is required to get the best note.

I picked up an ACME Tornado 2000 a couple of weeks ago. ACME claims it's the world's loudest whistle (122 decibels!?!) and I believe them. One short, split-second blast of air into this whistle and my ears ring for 30 minutes.
:surrender:

I always thought the Jetscream was regarded as being the loudest.
I always thought the Jetscream was regarded as being the loudest.
I'm not sure. I can't find Jetscream in my area at all. "Sgt. Mike" does a test and review of some whistles (http://sgtmikessurvivaltips.blogspot.com/2008/05/who-gives-toot-whistle-tests-coming.html) and says the Jetscream registers an average of 110.6 db. He doesn't review the Tornado 2000 though. ???
The Tornado 2000 is still a great whistle for the money. I paid a regular price is $3 CAD for it which is about $1 USD or 1.7 GBP.
I got a Fox 40 whistle. It's nice, glows in the dark, and is loud... oh yeah, and pea-less! :D What more could someone want? I don't know  I got it for free, from the BC SAR Association.
I carried a Jetscream for a while, but it seemed a bit OTT for my needs, so I eventually settled on an orange Acme tornado.I have a Fox 40 on the way, will let everyone know how i find it when it arrives :)

Thanks Neil (very nice man really!)
Tone wise they remind me of old police whistles, which is strange considering they look absolutely nothing like them
I had this titanium whistle custom made for me. It's 2-1/2" long with a ceramic glass breaker ball on the end. Enjoy! :D

I got a couple of ACME 649 survival whistles for our emergency bags. They are pretty OK for the total of €5 they cost :tu:
They are quite loud with little effort and their somewhat two-tone sound should be discernible from ambient sounds from some distance. I hope I never have to find out the hard way though!

They sure do look like good solid whistles.
I hope you have better luck with ACME products than Wile E. Coyote does.

Heres the whistle I keep around. It is just an unbranded trinket I got from a product vendor.
Working as and with drivers I ocasionaly have to get the attention of somone about to leave the lot with a messed up order. Tested at 114db this is a mutch better option to yelling.
