This is my simple fire kit from my bug out bag. I've used it several times for practice but thankfully I have never needed it . the little bit of cotton is to light the tea candle, I wrap some around the wick and light it with the ferro rod. Works well. And my one multi tool will a saw, a victorinox economy with the same tool set as the camper model. Well other than the lack of the scale tools.
We heated the house growing up with a pair of wood stoves so I have lit more than my share of fires and processed a lot of fire wood. We managed to do it without ever beating a knife though a piece of wood, huh imagine that :D
