 Dare I try it again?
I failed on my first try with a Camper (my favorite knife when I was in my 20's), and my first SAK.
Then I found out about Yeoman and mods and the like, so I had one made, HUGE thanks to GigaHz for making this dream come true.
Going to try for a badge....again. :2tu:
Day 1:
Here's the knife that is going to be showcased. I love that it has the foil stamped Camping logo, just like my first SAK.
I like that it has a file on the hook. I like that it has scissors. One of the most used items is likely the pen at this time and the main blade for opening packages. :tu:
I love the wood saw, but I never use it, yet I feel comfort knowing it's there.

Nice mod FB! Good luck on the badge. :like: :like:

Thanks Vicman!
Already using it today.
I used the scissors to open up a package in order to install an inline petcock into my little motorbike.
The package being opened:

The petcock was installed in the red motorbike: These are 2015 SYM Symba. More or less a clone of the original Honda Cub.

Love the scooters (although I am not sure if the red & white one is a scooter)! I had never seen a scooter until my family moved from the East Coast to California in the 50's. There were several in use in our town and two up the street from us.

Oh no! I am always getting things wrong around here. Oh well, I want to go with this for 30 days, so I'm okay with no badge, just the fun experience will be enough.
-
A badge should be made for these kind of SAKs... All the SAKs I use are modded.

Well for now you can get the mod user badge ;) and if you go ahead with the challenge we might even have a modded SAK 30 day challenge
Would you be willing to head up a 30 day April challenge of this sort? If so I am sure we have several here that might be interested in such a challenge :like: Only thing is getting it together and getting the participants by April 1st
-
If you do feel up to it just start a thread similar to the 30 day challenge threads we normally have and we will try and get some participants   :tu: If this happens then I am sure we can get a badge hammered out :like:

Poncho, I don't think I can get that organized. Maybe when I'm on Summer break.
So for now, day 2.
The main duties of any of my SAKs is opening packages.

Good use for your SAK....opening a box with a Vic case in it. Hope it fits.
Also, it sounds like Poncho may be able to get the badge set up for you.
Way to go Poncho!

:2tu: Great job and love your knife Folder!!

Thanks all for the support.
Day 3.
My hair spray can sometimes clog at the nozzle, so I used the main blade to pry out the clogged, dried on content. I think an awl may have been the better choice, but my knife doesn't have one. Maybe next mod it will. :tu:

You're right, I could have used the straight pin as this has plus scales. I think I'm actually more coordinated with a blade than a pin!

Day 4
Used the file that is on the hook to touch up my fingernail.

Another good use for the hook.
I have only seen the hook with the file on back in pictures. All the hooks on my Vics are smooth on the back.
I think they should put the file on the back of all hooks. It would be handy. :tu:

I agree!!

Love the file on the hook.
Day 5, I used the pen in my plus scales to write the code number of the date bits I bought at the health food store when I couldn't find their pen.

Day 6
I am always trying to figure out what implement to slide up and down the dirty areas of a used SAK. I have used the tweezers, but they're not very robust.
I decided to try using the mini screwdriver with a moist paper towel wrapped around it, worked great!

I'm trying to find even more uses for that little mini screwdriver.
Day 7
Used the mini screw driver so I didn't have to go back into the garage for the little phillips.

Did you take a pic that day and forgot to post it or just forgot to take the pic

Since I hold my knife with one hand and file the fingernail with the other, I didn't take a photo.

Day 8
Today I was out riding and my riding partner noticed my battery hose was dragging. Thankfully the SAK came to the rescue as I didn't have any tools with me for the short ride I was taking today. Had to unscrew the battery cover, reattach, then snug it all back down.

Great photos!!!
I imagine that today was just as nice in Southern California and it is in Northern California. Such a nice day for a ride! I rode for 30+ years before selling my last bike (1100cc / 121 horse power). Frequently our rides would take us along the coast and I would glance in the rear view mirror to see my wife's helmet turned in the direction of the ocean. :)
Since every bike I ever owned had a built-in tool kit compartment, I never had the MacGyver experience of whipping out a trusty SAK to make a small adjustment or remove the engine to fashion an ultra-light flying machine for an escape. :)

Such a nice day for a ride! I rode for 30+ years before selling my last bike (1100cc / 121 horse power).
NorCal, these Symba's have a whopping 6.7 horsepower, 101cc engine. No clutch, just auto-shift, 4 speeds. I totally dig little motorbikes.
Learned to ride on a Honda 70...then I got a Puch moped as a teenager, then a Yamaha 125 Enduro for high school....then started driving cars, so I took a break from riding.
But now I'm back and love vintage Hondas and Modern Vespas. These Symbas are 2015, so they're modern electronics which is helpful.
I cannot imagine 121 horse power! I rode my 21 horse power Vespa GTS250 i.e. 600 miles to Baja Calif. and back and that seemed like a lot of power to me.

Last I checked, anything 15 horse or above is freeway legal. Your 21 horse Vespa is perfectly fine for navigating freeways and enjoying short & long rides. The extra power of a large bike with top and side cases is very helpful for carrying a passenger, "luggage" and for passing acceleration. Mine was water cooled and the radiator and shaft drive gave it an automobile-like ride performance plus long-term reliability. We especially appreciated the fairing for creating a relatively quiet pocket of air.
I really like how the various SAK threads reveal other areas of life experience and enjoyment. Thanks for sharing yours!

My dad was a used car dealer in the late 1960's and early 1970's and he sold new Vespas for a couple of years.
When I was in high school Hondas were just starting to become popular and there were a lot of Honda motorbikes around town that looked like the Symba you ride. I wanted one so bad. I eventually got a Honda Sport 160 and loved riding it. Later I got a Harley 250cc, and then a Honda 350cc. It is relaxing to just get out on a back road where there is not a lot of traffic and just enjoy the ride.
Glad you to see you having fun on your motorbike.

Glad you to see you having fun on your motorbike.
Thanks Vicman! The Symba and little ones are mostly for back trail riding.
This modern Vespa has 21 horsepower, it's the one I took down to Baja since it's quite capable of keeping up with traffic. It's only 250cc though.

Day 10
Okay, I know I'm getting older and maybe not as strong as I once was, but I cannot believe how hard it is to get the top off of a Vitamin water bottle.
I almost gave myself a blister on the palm of my hand. So it became SAKTime!
I used the blade to slit a spot where it should separate, and that did it!

Nice use of the blade... hope you were using the blade edge and not the spine...
Vitamins? Must have been doing a lot of browsing, and buying on the bay... found your mini ratchet?

Can you believe I had a spare one right in my garage! Approx. 5 inches in length, 1/4 drive!
It's not pretty to look at, but the price was right.

Day 14:
After using the main blade to open my new-to-me Timekeeper, I used the mini screwdriver to pop the watch out from the scale. There is a small cutout at either end of the watch where the mini screwdriver fits and with gentle pressure it pops right off.
Of course I had to watch a YouTube video to find all of this out.

Sometimes I think I really don't use a knife much, but that doesn't stop me from wanting to carry one every day.

Nice looking group of knives. I have all the different sizes of Opinel in Stainless, and a few limited ones. The largest one, the #13 giant, is great for splitting open a watermelon. It has about a 9 inch blade.

Some thoughts after using the Yeoman mod for a while now.
I really seem to need a pry tool for stuff...not even sure why prying happens so often, but it does.
Using the wood saw just doesn't come up in daily living.
The newest mod knife I had made doesn't include a wood saw which is uncharacteristic of what I have tended to always want. Also, on my newest mod, I had a full opener layer kept instead of opting for the combo tool.

When my Huntsman was my EDC, I went almost 30 years without using the saw. When I got it, I lived out in the country, but never really had a use for it. When I got older, I found myself in suburbia for awhile. After trying it out several years back, I love it! To be honest, though, with the exception of a hike on Appalachian Trail with my son and the need to build a campfire, I could probably make do without it. It's one of those tools that I like to have "just in case". The way things are going, cans are almost all pull tabs and bottles are twist offs, wine isn't corked......where's the fun going?! I feel for the current generation....which is why I still go out of my way to find things to show the SAK tools off with! Great thread Lisa....I love that Yeoman and that van :gimme: rocks! :like: :like: :tu: :tu:

Thank you all for the comments.
Day 25.
The closer I get to the end of the challenge, the more I'm beginning to think what I might want to carry next. A contender is the Timekeeper; I sure do appreciate the battery operation that keeps going without being put on a charger every night like my iWatch.

Uh Oh, we don't want to get me started on a motorcycle subject or I might be tempted to stray too far from the subject. :)
I had soft liner luggage that I would remove from my large side cases (equipped with lockable release mechanism) and soft luggage that we would use for the trunk.
To bring this back to the subject, I am enjoying your modded SAK - run for the badge. After some multiple recent Explorer purchases, one turned out to be sub par and the reason I couldn't restore the blade snap was that the main blade was slightly bent at the tip (my fault for not sufficiently scrutinizing my purchase and trusting too much in the "Excellent" description). I am setting that Explorer aside as a tool source for a possible mod project (not interested in modding myself). A second Explorer from the multiple Explorer purchase was lacking snap in multiple tools and some tools were too stiff. Happily, I was able to soak it for hours in a watered down liquid detergent solution, then clean and lubricate to restore easy movement and snap. I have a Spartan with a bent small blade and the Explorer I mentioned with a bent large blade that will both qualify as donors for tools. It may be awhile, but I may follow your mod example.

Neat! :tu:
Generator and solar panel... How do you store the electricity?
The Generator is actually a battery and inverter in one unit.
I'm kind of new at this, but from what I understand the sun goes into the solar panel, then that electricity has to go somewhere for storage, and that's where the battery comes into play.
It holds the electricity until I start to use it by plugging something in.
What is nice is there is no gas engine, like the generators I grew up with, just silent battery that is safe to use indoors according to the literature on the packaging.

Knives like that make you appreciate the quality of a Victorinox knife.
You could keep those as examples of cheap quality knives to show someone who is just learning about knives, so that they can learn to tell the difference.
Tomorrow is the big day for your badge! :like:

Day 34 of 34!!! Which gives me 30 consecutive days.
Ending this run for the badge with a shot of two of my favorite things. My SAK and my 1982 Honda CT110. Both are reliable, red and can handle most tasks thrown at them.

Some closing thoughts:
What I liked the most about my mod is that it has many of the tools that I use on a daily basis.
I used the magnifier a lot more than I thought I would.
I like scissors in a knife and I didn't know what I was missing all those years that I carried my Camper.
The main blade is used a lot for package and letter opening. I'm on the fence about the Combo tool....I think I may prefer the combo layer instead.
I think I will prefer the new Victorinox with the locking can opener, so I might start carrying my Evo 18 or something similar.
I really long for a pry tool within a SAK. I'm prying a lot. Things around me are stuck all the time. Probably has to do with having old motorbikes. Things seem to need scraped off or pried open on them. This is why I think the Evo might work, since it will lock as I pry.
I missed carrying one of my vintage knives that GigaHz resurrected for me. I'll be carrying it now too within my rotation. :tu:
You all urging me on was awesome, sure did appreciate that!
-
Congrats FB... I see a badge coming soon....
A SAK without scissors doesn't cut it for me...

:like: Congrats Lisa and this was an awesome thread!! By the way. I love your knife and that 110!!

Congrats on completing the challenge, and of course with the badge!
It's been nice to follow this thread! Challenges like these -by definition of course- force you to make the most use out of a single tool set and are good to let you reflect back on it and draw conclusions about what you really need in a pocket knife. Nice to read the magnifier was such a surprise in the positive way, while the combo tool proved to be less useful than you might expect. I concur with your ambivalent feelings about the combo tool, by the way.
