Title: Wingman Pocket Clip issues.
Post by: NKlamerus on May 29, 2015, 03:03:10 AM
Well, I had quite the scare today when I reached in my pocket to grab my Wingman to tighten a bolt in a shovel; it was gone.

No idea where, I remembered looking down while I was driving and seeing the clip, but I don't remember which part of the day that was. (I drove 276 miles today, yay)

So I drive back to the furniture store and behold it's sitting in the crease of the first couch we sat on.

This is now the 4th time it's fallen out of my pocket, and add on top of that the 5 or 6 times it's fallen to the concrete while i step out of a truck.

I'm usually wearing gym shorts, a bathing suit, or Columbia PFG shorts. So the material isn't thick whatsoever, but my wave and Skeletool have absolutely no problem staying.

So, is there a mod to the pocket clip? Maybe taking it off and bending it? I have already snapped 3 or 4 of the removable clips. I'd hate to do the same for the Wingman.

That's rough man. I'd smurf if I lost any of my gear. At one time I was carrying my Wave in pocket with clip but never had it come out unintentionally.

I hope you find a solution.

I think your wingman wants to escape.

It's upsetting because I think it's my new favorite EDC tool....

It's cheap, so if I lost it it's not a major deal. But I've never lost one yet, and this is my first wingman!

I might take it off and see what I can do.

If I could slightly rubberize the inside; it might hold better.

This is a problem I see with all Leatherman tools with pocket clips. They just do not have the retention I want in a pocket clip. You can try to bend the clip. It might help slightly. The best thing you can do is to train yourself to check for it in your pocket every time you leave somewhere and periodically during the day. Every single time I get out of a car I just brush my pocket to feel for metal. If I leave a room and I have been sitting I do the same thing. Basically all day I will make sure its still in my pocket. It sounds exhausting but it really is not once you make it a routine.

If you are really worried about it Nite Ize makes a self locking clip you can put on basically anything. It will clip onto your pocket and lock to the fabric. I have been meaning to get one of these. It seems perfect for your needs.

That will most likely be the best solution. I've wanted to order a few Nite-Ize clips for awhile anyways!

Thanks Captain!!

This.  I check my pockets and belt a hundred times a day subconsciously.  I KNOW if one of my tools/knives/lights is missing.

How about in the waistband carry?  The waistband is a bit thicker so the clip has a bit more to hold on to.

I am also a constant checker of my tools, especially my keys.
