Title: Maxpedition and the Surge: Perfect fit all around
Post by: sergemaster on June 02, 2010, 06:12:31 AM
Hey all,
In case this topic has been covered, please pardon my necroposting fetish here, but whilst participating in the dastardly act, I discovered an old post on the subject when it comes to searching for a quality nylon sheath for one of the big boys like the Surge or the mighty LM 300 and The solution is one of the nylon sheaths being offered by the California company Maxpedition..

I paid the total of $18.00 with shipping via US eBay, and after two days it finally arrived and with it the solution on how I can comfortably and safely carry either the Surge or 300 either in the field or as an EDC.

The overall construction is tough, the nylon material is much thicker than that used by LM and their Molle model that they offer. The nylon stitching is very straight and precise, and the Velcro which I'm not a fan of in general is better than I expected and have seen on other models.

It also has three nylon loops one lactated on the top, the bottom, and the other at the end of the flap. What these are for I am not sure of, but it seems to be a way of lashing the sheath to other equipment which I guessing.

Through a series of straps, this sheath is Molle capable as well as for a military belt or harness plus can be used with an ordinary civilian belt in either a horizontal or vertical carry.

The Surge easily sits comfortably when closed in either the pliers up or down position, and is easily removed without any types of snagging which I've encountered with the LM Molle version.  It also sits well in the fully opened position and the flap can be used as a retention strap to keep the MT from falling out if on the go while on the job.

In conclusion, if you're looking for a top notch nylon sheath for any of your MT's the Maxpedition nylon sheath is the way to go..

Cheers,
Serge

I paid about $18.00 to $20.00 with shipping from a vendor on Ebay. It was pretty reasonable that I decided to pick up another one in the new "foliage green" color for either my Swisstool which it fits perfectly or my new Supertool 300 which is on the way..

Also, I disovered upon closer inspection that each side has those expandable loops similiar to those found on the LM Wave sheath and others that would be perfect for carrying either a pen, light, or any other cylindrical item one may decide to edc on their person..

Cheers,
Serge

It's the Single sheath you want for a large multitool Paul. Can you get this one in OD Green or Foliage, so when you sell it on cheap in a couple of weeks time I can get it to match one of my walking packs? :D

I have been using one of those for awhile and it looks new.

It fits most of the larger tools very well. I use it for a Supertool, SwissTool, Spirit, Core, SOG Powerlock, etc.. It fits all of them and it adjusts, so it fits just right for all of them.

Hey gang, here's a question for ya. While I have a sheath or two for my Surge that can hold the tool, the bit extender and one bit card, I've yet to find one that can hold the tool, the bit extended and TWO bit cards comfortably. Can this sheath accompany all those things or does anyone know of one that can? Thanks!

That's a GOOD question.. Although I can comfortably carry the exchangable blades with the Surge with no problems, I haven't messed with any of the bit drivers..

If not, you can always upgrade and get the DOUBLE nylon sheath also offered from Maxpedition, that way you'll have a matching compact set for both the big guy MT and all the other cool fun stuff..

Cheers,
Serge
