Title: Travel Vests - anyone here wear a multi-pocket style
Post by: LoopCutter on March 16, 2019, 09:44:03 PM
I wear a fleece vest during the winter and fall as a layer.

Having just completed a trip via airline, cabs, and tours, I started to consider if a light weight "travel vest" would be practical instead of a shoulder pack?

At home and stateside I could also use for my MT and knife(s) and flash light.

If you have and like yours please share your thoughts, what to consider, etc.

Many thanks :hatsoff:

I do exactly that!

The green gillet is what I wear at the UK meet, or out on a walk. Already preloaded with bright orange outdoorsy stuff. No need to pack.

Knifeless Fuse (mod) aka Fuse-ilier
Case Scout Jr
Torch and headlamp
Exotac Nanostarter
Tombow Airpress
Hand sanitiser
Whistle
Compass
Vagnino Zipslip
Mora HiVis
Buff
Heatsheet.

All I need to do, is remove anything I don't want, and off I go.

The dark blue one, is a fleece lined and quilted bodywarmer (workwear, rather than travel), and I often wear that over a shirt round the house (I don't turn the heating right up when there's just me rattling around in it. Two inside pockets, two large outside pockets, one breast pocket and three pen slots. Plenty good enough for phone, keys, and all the day's accoutrements. Good enough for a quick jaunt up to the shop in dry weather, or I can throw a waxed jacket over the top if wet.

I tend to go for cargo pants day-to-day, but (since you mention it, generally when travelling) I have three jackets in varying weights that I tend to use, they vary somewhat in style, material, and colour, but if you considered them equivalent to "M65" jackets you'd be close enough.

In the past I've used a "Fishing" style vest, but at some point I decided I looked a bit of a pillock and moved on to more discreet pockets/carrying stuff options.

I have not personally tried either of these but I did see the SCOTTeVEST on shark tank and thought it was very neat.  They are spendy tho.

Great examples AW, just what I am considering.

I am wanting for travel and summer (warm) weather wear.

Cargo pants are good for around home, except I really do not like the lower pockets weighted down and bulged out. I do have hiking shorts with the cargo pockets that I also use for my biking excursions. Yet, I do not place anything in those pockets.

Thanks for sharing!  Any others?

Aloha, yes those are nice, and as I recall, very techie, with pockets for iPads and other gadgets.  With price to match...
PS: your spoiler link is broken.

Thanks :) Here's a quick pic of everything that lives in or on the lightweight one

This is an old photography vest I haven't worn in years.  The pockets are quite large, as they are sized for 35mm lens, flash etc.

I have something similar. I used to wear it when traveling by plane because there were certain medications and such that I absolutely preferred to have on my person rather than in the luggage.  The vest allowed me to carry what I needed, but still bring a carry on bag with other less essential items and or a laptop. Different names, same idea, fishing vest, photography vest, safari or hunters vest, or traveler's vest.

Thank you Smiller and Alan, the pockets on the photographer vest is most likely the best suited for my wishes.  So far many I have found have two problems; 1. The zipper pull is on the left side, backwards for this old dog.  2. The best pockets are two small, difficult to fit a business size card into yet not deep enough for a retractable pen, and if a pen pocket, only a thinner than a standard bic stick pen, not a Parker Jotter or even a Cross pen will fit.

So I am yet looking, maybe will find at a thrift store, Salvation Army or other second hand store after someone cleans closest this spring then hope a 2xl or 3xlg is found.
