I have both, shelf queens (collectors) and EDC users. As you know...here are some my queens.
I have a 20 years collection of Shelf Queens. YEAH!!!
And about a dozen users.
I only have one shelf queen, and it bothers me to no end. It's sentimental, which makes me keep it, but I don't care for cellidor, so I don't want to carry it. I've got some titanium scales on the way to hopefully rectify this terrible situation! ;)
...my collection of Hamilton mechanical wrist watches are daily users.
There is no right or wrong...it is what pleases you...and only “you” matters. We do however; all have something in common...our love of SAKs.
The 4 SAKS in the first picture are all Shelf Queens.:like:    :like:
I also included a couple of extra pictures of 3 of them

I think the only knives in my collection that really qualify as a shelf queens are the red Voyageur and the Wenger Macao:
On my phone right now...but I do have a few shelf queens. If I am going to use something, I always get a second user.
I can post a few photos later.
:dd:
Why didn't I think of ColoSwiss when I started this thread?
I do wonder what other gems are hidden in a drawer somewhere Colo :pok:
Have you ever managed to take a pic of the complete collection?
Or is it just too big?
And some more.:like: :woohoo: :like:
I think the only knives in my collection that really qualify as a shelf queens are the red Voyageur and the Wenger Macao:
Glenfiddich1983, those two SAK are extremely NICE!!
And some more.
Some kits.
Some wonderful stuff above, and good thread! :tu:
I guess most of my shelf queens are actually in a box inside a box queens... Everything else is on El DIY displays... There are only a few I that I absolutely won't EDC on the displays...
That is it. Sorry for photo bombing the thread. Hope you guys enjoyed the contents of two of my SAK storage drawers. :salute:
Around 12 drawers all told.
I started back in 2009.
For the record, I still think ColoSwiss has the nicer and probably larger collection. :tu:

No shelf queens for me - If I don't use it it gets passed on. Each to their own, but I can't look at tools and not use them for what they were designed and built for. Even if I had an original SAK it would get used or passed on.
Nice collections though peeps :salute:
General comment, not directed at anyone specific, just to be clear -
It is possible to utilise something by just looking at it and enjoying it visually, as well as as an investement. Many do not get that, which is why I avoid posting in this type of threads. Some people just have a lot of toys, can not and do not want to use them all and are happy with that.
I do not think many tools will lose value, if not used, so I do not consider having an e.g. LE Victorinox or most GECs wasting money - You may lose some money if you buy at the wrong time, like when the coloured alox bubble burst a couple of years ago, with Victorinox releasing more colours, making e.g. the copper pioneer less rare, but then you may buy a bottle of whisky, or beer, drink it and then rerally waste your money. I do it because I like it, not as an investement.
Using a tool is the easiest way to make it lose money, unless you are really famous. Yet people try to encourage other to use their LE tools, encouraging them to lose money. If you want to see it used buy it with your own money and use/abuse it.
I doubt anybody selling any of the collections we saw here will lose money or is suffering and starving to maintain that collection. Some people collect used stamps, cars, sea shells, husbands, wives, etc.
3. I am a generalist by nature...hence why I have a little of everything. This is good as I don't like to stress about getting everything of a particular series or focused collection.Your rule #3 hit home as I read it. I like a little of everything too, but the part that got me was the stress part. Lately I was trying to complete a mini collection of MiniChamps and it has stressed me out.

I am missing the MiniChamp XL and it kind of made me :ahhh a point where I don't like to be. I think I'll chill and get back to only buying what I like or enjoying what I have.
Agreed, I collect because it gives me great pleasure. I also take photos for the same reason. I also care not if others think differently, or find that I am wasting my money, or that tools are made to be used, etc...
I have a few personal rules I go by:
1. I never sell/trade.
2. I try to not get duplicates unless I plan on having one for a user.
3. I am a generalist by nature...hence why I have a little of everything. This is good as I don't like to stress about getting everything of a particular series or focused collection.
4. I will only buy until I have no more room...as in no more room to expand into, or as funds permit.
5. Collections are made to be seen and not hoarded in secrecy. Thus combining my love of photography with my love of collecting on this forum doubles my enjoyment.
6. Collecting is made to be enjoyable. If I ever started to feel bad about it, I would stop in a heartbeat and go into or do something else.
7. I collect as a hobby and not as an investment.
:salute:
... I hope you like this part of my collectionI do :like:

Great Russian Army knives! Thanks, EMZ! (I hate political discussions -- do not trust any politicians at all.)
(No no no, please do not start a political discussion. Just admire the style these Vics are decorated.)
Where are they for sale??For example, at all-wenger.ru (http://all-wenger.ru/news/shveytsarskaya-legenda-v-rossiyskom-stile/) (But I am afraid some of the models already sold out. This series was released in the end of 2017.)

But, in a fact, these SAKs have no relations with the Russian Army (too expensive to supply privates and even officers) -- they are released for collectors first of all.Where are they for sale??For example, at all-wenger.ru (http://all-wenger.ru/news/shveytsarskaya-legenda-v-rossiyskom-stile/) (But I am afraid some of the models already sold out. I especially like the designs of the one with the St. George ribbon and the one with the camouflage.

Yes, it original knife from late 40s- early 50s, another one was shown by Jazzbass some years ago. It is interesting that blue cellidor scales were mentioned in Victorinox catalog (c.1950) for small knives but not for 91/84mm.Right? They're awl awesome! Nick - i think you are a collector ;)No, in my opinion the true collector is the person for whom gathering is a passion and which is spending all his free time in search of information about collectibles. But I just have some SAKs.
Tell us more. I collect for 10 years now - starting as a student with a very very small budget (the first 7 years I collect only LM). And I missed so much great and rare tools... it’s part of the game...Yes, it was an opportunity to buy many SAKs in Victorinox and Wenger outlets, but I missed it. Also, there were a lot of very interesting knives in small village shops, but I did not have a proper mood...

Tosh - which beauty is your favorit one?
Thank you
The thing with the Realtree range is that they are all different - no two are ever the same, hence why I can't get enough.
I'll have to upload the newer 130 camo I got, it's actually unique as it's an official Ranger 61 in Hardwood scales. No mention of its existence can be found on SAKWiki, yet the box shows it to be official Wenger.
Really wish I had bought the snow 97 that was only ever released in Eastern Europe.
Maybe one day I'll get lucky!!

The Fireman.Awww, ok the Fireman. I don’t think I will be seeing the Nespresso Arpeggio unless someone sells it not knowing what they have, which has happened before. Thanks.
I've seen no feedback on the ad.
The seller was selling lots of stuff.
I remember he was selling a Wenger Laser for €110 and a Nespresso Arpeggio without box for 150 too.

No clue...Yes it is...that’s one of the reasons I got two...and the 20% off coupon helped also. Mid 2019 will work for me!
This year's colour was great!
I'm curious to know myself.
Vic will probably show the 2019 colour somewhere mid 2019...

SwissChamp (thin pliers), Victoria Champion with LNF, Victoria Ambassador, Executive.
Must be quite a heavy one!Yes, 198 g. :)
Wow Nick - that’s really cool. I saw one tool with granit scales on eBay not long ago. I thought a bit on that would be nice but I decided against it...It was a gift, so I had no choice. ;)
@Nick now that granite SAK is the perfect paperweight :DA great idea, Sir Aloha!
Between CeHo and Reinier . Those MOP SAKs are stunning. I cannot imagine they were made for anything but to be shelf queens.
Some MoP shelf queens :)Oh boy, those are some beautiful MoP :dd:

This is the only SAK I know off with a manufacturing defect. None of the other 50 had it. None of the other marlin spike model has it. Can you spot it?
The pitting in the spike?
Or the open space between the spike and the scale?
The coutour is correct, but doesn't fit
Wow it's like the rare copy of "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" where the word "Philospher" is misspelled on the back cover so it's now worth millions....
(Though of course Harry Potter books are useless for mending sails, doing tongue piercings etc.)

What a pity. :(
(But, may be, you can help me with the exact identifier of this model? I have bought it as NOS, without the original box. Thank you in advance!)
That Hafenpolizei model is great Gluten-free (!) I love the logo. You can see all the models in the European 2005 catalog I uploaded in the wiki a while back. Pages 20 and 21
Can we put the piccie in the Wiki? ??? ..... Pretty please?
I guess it is for the German Hafen Polizei - As Switzerland has no Hafens !! :D
What model is it please? - Is it a two-layer with openers blade and ?? Phillips? CS?
We don't even have that model in the Wiki - Which is weird as I would have thought that was a standard base mode for the 120s !!
EDIT: Just checked - It does not seem to be on Smartknives either - Anyone know about this model? ???
Very nice SQs everyone else - Thanks for posting :tu:

Ah - Thanks for the permission GF - Great
I will credit as "Image courtesy of glenfiddich1983 from MTo" - Unless you say otherwise :tu:
And very interesting about the Swiss Hafen Polizei - I guess there are a few big lakes in Switzerland - eh?
I've even sailed on one last year (Lucerne)
Hmm just checked out Basel-Landschaft - No lakes and apart from a few km of the Rhine not much water
That's a very speSmurfpillsed group!!
I wonder how many of those SAKs they made? ??? - 3
No, sorry, my mint one did come in a nice gift box but I could noy find a model number. No problem. Anyway, thank you!

I was wondering if anything like this existed...
Interesting construction with parts spanning decades.
I always thought if one was to be found, it would be c.'73 construction.
