That's a lot weight before you even get to the casualty :-\
Guess you boys have to be pretty fit :)
-
Yeah i've got a HI-VIS cover for the bergen. The reason we have to carry this is because if were looking for someone then we might be out for up to 48 hours.
-
That makes sence, you've always got to have a back up plan if (when) the weather close's in :)
I just wish a few more bods would take some sensible precautions when out and about ::)
-
You've got to remember though that we need to carry team gear aswell ie:
Stretcher.
Full medical kit on top of the personal med kit.
Little dragon for helping warm up a body after hypothermia.
Oxygen tank.
Casualtly supports ie neck brace.
Climbing harness.
140 m rope Somtimes.
And a lot more depending on weather etc.

Question for you and Dunc; do either of your services get any gear that's been surplused by the military or other gov't agencies?
Here in the US,at times Uncle Sam will release old/obsolete/surplus equipment to local fire depts, rescue services, etc.either no charge,or a nominal price.
-
No ive got a few military items Because i used to be in the army and still know a good website.

Yeah same here Dunc. We some times get walking poles or water bottles or knives Usally cheap one though but is the thought that counts.

COOL!!!! Can we see some pics of the spears?? :pok:
-
Well I cant find any pics of our rescue gear at the moment so I'll just have to bore you with some complete package shots ::)

First aid kit is in a locker under the Helms seat , oxygen bottle is bolted to the A frame at the back and so is the fire extinguisher. Other stuff like flares , fresh water etc is in the four yellow buckets on the A frame . We carry no where near the amount you have to as its a totally different enviroment to yours , although just like you cold is a big danger .

Its basically a small portable machine that "pumps" Hot air through a casualtly's body to "warm them up" If they are suffering from hypothermia then you wrap them in a space blanket.
