Ever since I started to get interested in SAK's and multitools, I have wanted an old Soldier but they were always out of my price range. This was till a week ago when I stumbled across a 1957 Victorinox Soldier in Tim's shop (www.felinevet.sosakonline.com) at a price I simply couldn't ignore. So I jumped on it and it arrived today. :)
You read a lot about the old Soldiers but nothing you read will describe just how well made these knives really are. They are really solid and TBH make the newer ALOX versions feel 'toy-like' in comparison. Considering that it is now over 50 years old, each of the tools open as smoothly and with as much snap as if it were made yesterday.
Below are some pictures that were taken after a very light clean. I have been particularly lucky as this one has clearly seen very little use. I have included some next to my '66 Wenger SI as a comparison.

I don't think it's possible to take a bad pic of that SAK. :D
My SAK experiences are very limited, but nothing has been as impressive as this one. :)

That is a seriously nice sak, it barely looks used at all, and you bought it for peanuts relatively speaking :o
You should definately put that in your 'Cold Dead Hands' catagory :)

I so want one

I am well chuffed mate. :)
They are the fibre scales and again feel pretty solid.

Very nice Ben! It looks quite a lot like my '44 Wenger, but it has a clip blade instead of the spear-point like yours.
Don't you love that snap?!
