Hammer, what on your thoughts on the REBAR?I really like the Rebar. The pliers are a wee bit larger than the pliers on the Wave yet not as large as the pliers on the Surge. The Rebar has a fantastic fit and feel. The pliers meet touching at the tip with a steadily increasing gap towards the back. All of the tools deploy from the inside, which some people do not like. For me, it's not a problem.
I'm joining this club asap, but my local MEC doesn't have them in yet.
Is anyone going to put Rebar plier head into Charge Ti ? So that I can follow.
Dick's Sporting Goods has them. I made them open a shipping carton full of them when I found an empty peg. :D
Initial thoughts... Since I was in high school I've carried a PST and then a Supertool. The only downside of the Supertool is I wanted all of those tools in the PST format. Which this is- yes! I didn't quite let out a girlish SQUEE at the register- I made it to the truck and did so with sound dampening around me.
So, initial impressions- it's bit stiff. I'll be grabbing a zip tie, my castor oil bottle and spending some time working it while watching TV tonight. I got it with the nylon sheath, which is ok, but I'm waiting for Mr Au to unpack and catch up on orders. :)
It is going to be really, really weird tommorrow. This will be the first day in about 18 years I won't have my ST with me other than flying or being in the court house. I'm going to have to find things to fix.
I like the easy-open cut out for the knife blade; is there one on the other side? If so, what tool does it give access to?
Just the two blades.
But wow, what an agressive file- its going to mellow out after some metal work, but it's practially a rasp at this point for wood.
I finally got my Rebar late last week thanks to the man who said Dick's Sporting Goods had them. I stopped by, and they did. $49.95.
Anybody know the cost of a skinth VS?
It won't work with the wingman, but it should work with the other three you mentioned.
I finally placed my order. :mail: I love the 300 but it's too heavy for an edc multi and I think the Rebar should be just about right. Who needs scissors anyway? :D

There are other options. Posters here asked for an awl for years. They got it.

My Rebar arrived today. After an hour of admiring the tool, I swapped the plier head with my Charge Ti. I satisfied with the outcome, although it was not perfect.Any pics..? :pok:

I'm now officially in the club; I'd originally picked up a Rebar to do my own Wave mod, but it turns out I like the Rebar way too much, and the Wave very little.
I've been carrying my Rebar in lieu of my Spirit X (mainly because I traded it to Steve) and my only complaint is I miss my Spirit's bottle opener/pry bar; I wouldn't trust using the Rebar's screwdrivers as a light pry bar - the tools are too small to trust in that fashion.
Better late than never.. :)I'm in btw.. :D

the lack of scissors. I was also disappointed that the file used on the Wave wasn't used on the Rebar. ONe thing I think the spirit could use is a better file. Unfortunately, the rebar's file is IMO equal to, or a little inferior to the spirit.
The non-diamond dusted file just about made me not purchase the Rebar. Not sure why Leatherman wanted to bypass a diamond-dust coated file, as the Rebar could have cornered the market with that one implement.
Now if Leatherman would only get such an awl over to a Charge series in the next decade... :twak:
Soon to be owner. I just came across this on amazon and pulled the trigger. Any idea what the description means when it says "Peg"? Is it talking about the sheath?

That is what love about leatherman. $38 for a BO rebar shipped! Try together a spirit for that price.

Can you find a Leatherman Charge for that price ?
Apples and oranges ... ;)

I bought that same item from Amazon (from the same vendor .... Electronica Direct, fulfilled by Amazon). You'll get a blister pack Rebar with a MOLLE sheath. Don't know what "PEG" means, but you'll get a blister pack black oxide Rebar with a MOLLE sheath. This is an awesome deal.
By the way, I'm in love with the Rebar. After buying a ST300, I was hesitant to buy a Rebar. It just seemed too redundant. But I love the smaller size. I own a baker's dozen or so Leatherman tools now, but the Rebar may be my favorite of the bunch.
Yup. The ST300 is great. I'll still don it on the days when I'm feeling the itch to get my hardcore multi-tool totin' on. But the Rebar does all of the same stuff and is a more practical daily carry AND still makes me feel like I'm a multi-tool ninja, what with the beefy construction and black oxide. Lawdy! I get the vapours just thinking how cool it is.
Don't tell anybody, but some days I feel merely mortal and choose to carry a Juice CS4 or even .... you're not recording this are you? .... just a SAK in my pocket. But when I'm feeling the need for something heavier duty, the Rebar really is my current favorite.
By the way, I believe "peg" means it's a blister pack version (that hangs on a retail fixture peg). That particular Amazon listing seems to include some retail procurement system boilerplate lingo.
"Rebar Black Molle Black Leather PegManufacture ID: 831553"
I'm in the minority that prefers the PST type design of internal tools only (carries sleeker and cleaner when closed) and lack of scissors (I keep a Style CS on my keychain). So the Rebar is just perfect for me.
Am thinking I must be losing it. Finding myself wanting to shelf the Charge TTi in favor of the Rebar, but I like them comfortable titanium scales, S30V steel blade, and the diamond grit file. Everything else is on the Rebar. Know what I should do... >:D :D
FYI, the Rebar BO went down to 35.99...should have waited...

Received my BO Rebar yesterday! It is my only LM MT that has all the tools "inside"....and I kind of like it. I still like the easier access to blades on my other MTs, but the Rebar style is fine by me as well. It is about the same size as my BO Wave, and was half the price with same sheath.
I am a new to the differences in the tools, but what are the advantages of the type of pliers on the Rebar and Super Tool? Replaceable and stronger than others?
Is the Rebar an updated Core? From when I had my Core the Rebar looks a lot like it. It would be perfect if the knife was outside-opening. Yet, a beautiful piece of tooling.

I was at Target tonight and taken completely by surprise by a single remaining REBAR on the shelf just calling my name. It looked better and more compact in person than I'd imagined from the online photos I've seen. So I bought it, and have been fiddling with it ever since.
At first impression, it kinda reminds me of the PST, given its size and tool selection. I'm not so convinced how the chisel ground serrated blade will fair but the plain edge blade seems to be setup pretty well.
I did find that the tools on the side of the Philips were a little difficult to maneuver where it takes some effort to extend the tools. I wonder if some oil will help this difficulty.
Overall, I'm quite pleased and feel I got my money's worth, but only time will tell how it holds up to every day use :salute:
The only thing that could make it any better would be a nice pair of scissors. I would replace the chisel ground sheeps foot blade with scissors. I don't really see much use for that blade.
Anyone else on the same page?

THe only problem I have with that is there are times when I can't carry a SAK & a MT. It's either one or the other, so scissors on the MT are a need rather than a want.
She's a beauty. I love my REBAR, is the best LM ever made IMO :D

I'm in as of today :tu: It seems to me that this tool is a smaller version of the Super Tool 300, which I don't currently own but looked at images from the LM site.

So any other initial impressions/thoughts on it yet? I agree that it's basically a compact ST300 (nothing wrong with that imho :tu:).

Just picked up my Rebar today, looked in the LM production time line, and it shows 2012,my question is that mine has 801 in both handles, that makes no sense to me,does anybody else have production dates in there's??
Your right, with my old eye's I had to get a magnifying glass out to see B01,still don't know what it means, but as long as I get my 25 yr warranty I'm happy, that will be when I'm 95!!! :salute:Just picked up my Rebar today, looked in the LM production time line, and it shows 2012,my question is that mine has 801 in both handles, that makes no sense to me,does anybody else have production dates in there's??
That actually may be B01. Let me check mine....yup, B01 on the inside of the lock tab. Is that what you're talking about? Mine has no date, which I believe I've read others stating this as well.

That is a pretty sweet deal indeed :tu: Enjoy your new Rebar and Micra once you get them :)

I have a Micra, and think it is awesome (for what it is, no surge replacement ::) ) I wanted a Rebar, but they run $50-60 online, so when I saw one that was $39.99, I was all over it, and then to top it off it comes with a Micra. :ahhh
Now I can put a Micra in my altoids tin survival kit!
That is some impressive damage you did to your Wave there, Jothra :o What made it break like that? The final straw was bending a piece of metal into an adapter to move a brake on an odd-wheeled Frankenbike. I was clamping pretty hard, and the sound of the tool snapping was spectacular. I've used this tool for five years of commercial construction, including who knows how many steel mats for sidewalks and concrete aprons. Basically, anytime there weren't any easily-accessible pliers around for a job, the Leatherman came out. When you're with a hands-on general contractor, that's really, really often.
Oh no Jothra! I think the rebar pliers will work well for your job. And there is always the possibility of a rewave? Of course then warranty would be voided.Thank you!
And by the way I find the little jokes you throw into your posts very amusing :D
Ok, now that I have received my rebar, I love it. What I did find surprising was just how much awesomeness they squeezed into essentially the same footprint a my kick, which had a super small tool assortment. The rebar is only 1.5 oz heavier than the kick. I will try to get some side by side shots to point this out in picture form later

Maybe you should loosen them? I'm not sure what exactly would happen if you loosen them as I've never dabbled in that with mine. Mine opens/closes smoothly and the cutters don't touch in an interfering way. They also cut paper. I love the Rebar pliers, and the Rebar in general :tu:

Thanks I will loosen them just a touch. The one thing I did notice about the Rebar is that the slight buldge out the handles make in the closed position. The ST300 does not do this

Cool, let us know how that works out for you. Oh do you mean that section that sticks out at the bottom of the sloped area? I thought that was odd myself, but it may have something to do with the rolled edges to the handles so that they don't hurt when using the pliers. It may be due to the fact that they were trying to make it slim and that area and along the edges had to stick out to allow room for the rolled edges? Not sure, but I imagine the ST300 must have the rolled edges too, unless that's not the case.

First,
loosened the cutters about 1/100th of a turn each, and they do not touch, but will cut paper. :D
Second
I bought a ST300 at the same time as my Rebar, and it it flat, (no bump) but it does have the rolled edges. The Rebar laying closed on a table can rock side to side, like a messed up table, the ST300, has no movement at all.
Not a big deal, I just thought my Rebar was damaged, until I saw other pix of the Rebar, and noticed the hump on them.
I am much happier with the Rebar than I expected to be. the file may not be diamond (One reason I love my Surge!) but it is super aggressive!
I also noticed that the Rebar pliers open a little wider than the ST300
Just received a new Rebar, a LM exchange for a non-repairable Blast. If I'd known then...........
Do you know the country of origin, mine has no markings?

All Leatherman's are made in the USA (Portland, Oregon) Though I believe some parts, or the steel or something, could come from somewhere else, if I'm right.
A year ago I bought myself a Rebar, but it broke down on me after 2 days or so, they gave me a new one in the store but this one also had some problems, so I bought myself a Wave and vowed never to buy a Rebar again (more info here (http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,38943.0.html)).
Until yesterday ... ::)
[piccie]
So I guess I'm back in the club 8) .
P.S. Any of you guys ever placed the Rebar in that "new" al black Leather Wave sheath, I would like to know how it fits in that one (if it's not to loose), because I would like a Leather sheath for my Rebar with a pocket on the side for my MAG-lite Solitaire LED. Maybe someone who has pics of a Rebar in the Leather Wave sheath, or else, just your thoughts on it.
Love the pics TG. And you're right, the classic LM style makes for some great pics. That sheath looks nice too. So is this Rebar working better than the last couple you tried?
I have re-added my REBAR to the EDC rotation. I've had several situations where I needed either a good pair of wire snips or a full set of pliers. It's just too useful not to carry it. So now, I will pull my pants up every few minutes

The last one I had (over a year ago) lasted 3 days, so I'm not out of the woods yet ... :dwts:
But I'm hoping for the best, first time I got my hands on a Rebar it was love at first sight, and I have the same feeling now, I just hope this is not a case of "love makes blind" ...
Nice pics everyone! I ordered a BO Rebar a few minutes ago and can´t wait to get it. :)
I got my LM Rebar and LM Micra for Father's day this year came as a combo pack. Also bought the LM Removable Bit Drive kit as well, just waiting on the Skinth OG case to come.

I also took some new pics from my Rebar. The Rebar, just like its big brother the ST300, is one of those "classic" tools that always look great on pics in my opinion.

Mine too! LM really got it right with the REBAR :D :tu:
If the Rebar had outside opening tools, I'd be in this club by now. I do plan on getting one eventually though, but it's not really near the top of my list yet.Why do you need OO tools? It's not really about speed, there's nothing really tactical about a MT, except maybe the MUT or BO tools.

I'm still trying to get the Rebar/Micra set.Still trying? What problems are you having?
Well, the first place I went to had the sets replaced by Supertool/Micra combos, so now I have to go to Downtown Toronto for it.No chance of trying a Fleabay seller?

I don't think it ships to Canada.
Are there any other original LM sheaths, preferably with one or two side pockets, which fit the Rebar? I don´t like the Molle sheath it came with. Right now I carry it in a Wave leather sheath (the one with the two side pockets) but the "lock buttons" always get caught in the rubberbands of the side pockets and will damage them earlier or later. Any ideas? ???
Besides the (semi-)obvious (get a Skinth! :D ): I use the standard Nylon sheath for my Rebar (the one that came with the Wave) and, with both sidepockets and the backpocket filled (PocketWrenchII, FenixE01, Vic Alox Vagabond) it fits quite good. It does catch the lock buttons sometimes, but not often...A Skinth... Why didn´t that come into my mind?! I would need special version though (I think). :D

Would it be possible to post or send me a pic of your nylon sheath, taken from above into the open sheath? Is there thick nylon (like the rest oft the sheath) between the main pocket and the two smaller, outer pockets or are they these nylon/rubber type bands, too?
Thank you! :tu:
Actually, I think it's exactly the same as the 'premium leather sheath', which I believe you have...Besides the (semi-)obvious (get a Skinth! :D ): I use the standard Nylon sheath for my Rebar (the one that came with the Wave) and, with both sidepockets and the backpocket filled (PocketWrenchII, FenixE01, Vic Alox Vagabond) it fits quite good. Can't take a pic now... It's this one:

It's one piece of folded nylon, with two elastic 'tubes' on the sides, sewn in as the 'sides' of the sheath... Does that make any sense?

$10 shipping to Canada is not unreasonable. It's what it costs.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Leatherman-REBAR-MICRA-Multi-tool-COMBO-Stainless-Steel-831689-/121190606091?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c3785e50bWell, the first place I went to had the sets replaced by Supertool/Micra combos, so now I have to go to Downtown Toronto for it.No chance of trying a Fleabay seller?
Well, the whole point of getting the set is because it's $49.99.
10 dollars shipping to Canada.Quoteor at Amazon for about the same price http://www.amazon.com/Leatherman-Rebar-Micra-Combo-Multitool/dp/B00BRYBX2W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381764025&sr=8-1&keywords=rebar+micra
I don't think it ships to Canada.
I purchased a BO Rebar and its awesome!! :DI'm glad you're enjoying it. It's one of my favorite MT's too! :D
I'm really tempted to get a BO Rebar. I don't really need one, but I sure do want one!!!! :ahhh

Go ahead, DO IT :pok: I have no BO tools, and have always been curious, just never ended up getting one. I've heard that it tends to rub off in the hand and whatnot, so that would always keep me from pulling the trigger I guess.
Thanks for the tips on the BO business fellas :tu: I know what you're trying to do though... >:DI don´t know what you are talking about and deny everything!
Ya, what could he be talking about :angel:Thanks for the tips on the BO business fellas :tu: I know what you're trying to do though... >:DI don´t know what you are talking about and deny everything!
Yeah, I don't know what came over me. I've never seen any enablers here, or been one myself :cheers:
Personal shopping assistants, maybe. Enablers, never.
So, when are you getting that BO Rebar?
:D

My Rebar, when I carry it I just put it in my nylon Wave sheath as I don't care for the leather one that come with it.
Have a Ripoffs co-80T holster coming, think most of my 4" Leathermans will fit in it.

I don't own a Rebar, but I do own an ST300. I love it, but the weight does bother me. Do any of you own both? Is there a considerable difference after wearing them all day?

The last few weeks I've been carrying my Rebar a lot more than my ST300, so I guess for EDC, the Rebar wins. In fact, the Rebar is about the only tool that can make me leave my Spirit at home (which says a lot, because I really like the Spirit).
However ... I find myself reaching for the ST300 time and time again when I need a tool at home ::).
Anyway, here are the Rebar and ST300 next to each other in some pics ;).

Do not take Monrogue's statements too seriously, we're talking about a man who makes a weekly schedule to help decide which tool he's going to carry in the morning ...

sweet! you made a PST III!
Count me in, just got one!
Count me in too! I got a Rebar/Micra combo a couple weeks ago and love them both. I just got another pair from eBay as a gift.
Count me in as well

This was given to my Uncle RM Percival Stanley Smith to prepare for the impending invasion of Japan. He had spent a large amount of time in Burma prior to that. I was lucky enough to be given quite a few of his personal items after he passed away.
My family has a long history of serving in the Royal Navy and the Royal Marines (myself included).
I thought it would make an interesting backdrop.
It also has the notes he took in the briefings penciled into the margins.

Just got a (for the most part) Rebar today. It's had the replaceable wire cutter plier head swapped with one from a (I think) Blast. Same head that was on the whole Fuse/Blast/Kick line and same one on the Wave. Other than that, it's stock.
I hope I qualify for membership. :D
Some quick thoughts. Half an ounce lighter than the Sidekick/Wingman, and only an ounce heavier than a PST II. All locking tools. Super-agressive, but non-diamond file. Plain Edge blade! Wohoo! Nice fat flathead as a basic pry tool is something I always like. Good awl. Stout and long-shanked phillips. lanyard ring which can be tucked away as needed. Saw, can opener with wire stripper. Reasonably comfortable in-hand both open and closed.
If the goal is function and utility, not aesthetics and convenience (as in one-hand-open), then this might be the pinnacle of design. I prefer it greatly over the ST300 due to its smaller size/lighter weight. It is amazingly compact for its features.
Excellent tool! :tu:

Welcome to the dark side.
After a closer look it seems that all the tools on the plain edge blade side has play. is there anything i could fix myself
I love this tool. Even though it is a spares build, it can come in very handy.

I'm back with a new ss rebar
thanks to Lam
mine should arrive in the next few days. I cant wait. I haven't had a new leatherman in AGES and this is one i have wanted since it came out.It is everything it supposes to be. :tu:

I gave my Rebar to a good friend so today I bought a brand new one in leather sheath. I really like this sheath better than the nylon one! :D

squeeze rebar really really hard, the saw starts cutting into my skin.
It was from only squeezing, I put maybe 100 lbs of force on it.
I think I broke my toe.. I swung that hammer with 100 lbs of force and smash! :rant:It was from only squeezing, I put maybe 100 lbs of force on it.

I must disagree, it takes 100 lbs of force to get the job done, so be it.On a more serious note, I would be concerned of the pliers actually breaking given too much force. If you're using your LM this heavily, I hope you're wearing safety glasses! :salute:
The tool can handle it, so no safety violation there, just discomfort.
It is a design flaw, I shall keep that in mind for future usage.
There is always room for improvement.

I'm not 100% certain if NASA is calculating crush grip strength specifically in this data (there are different measures of grip strength, but with a MT, only crush grip applies), but I can imagine that if they are, then NASA knows what they are talking about.
However, between that and a quick check of some physical therapy and grip strength building sites, I can determine this:
I have a very strong grip myself. I would not squeeze my Rebar on anything at 100 psi unless my life depended on it. So even if I am only 50th percentile, that's not far under my max. A Rebar is not designed for this.
Go get a set of pliers.
agree.
If someone can break his rebar by squeezing with two bare hands, I will buy him another one.

I've put my full weight behind my Wave's Rebar plier on a number of occasions, but I might just be lucky. That's good to hear :tu: Mine have held up pretty well too. :D
Did a few small odd jobs around the home with rebar, I gotta say its handling is easier than his other brothers. It's in deed an awesome tool. :tu:

:oops:Thanks. I sent it off to Leatherman Japan today (my country of residence). From what I've been reading on all the forums, I'm expecting good things. Looks like my Spirit now takes belt precedence for the time being.
You could grind the pliers down a bit and make it a blunt nose or just send it in to LM to get it fixed/replaced.
My personal choice would be a blunt nose. :D

Are you going to keep it standard or are you going to mod this one
Finally got hold of an unmodified Rebar the other day (cheers again Steve), so can now have a play with the original head and awl. Expect a video review some time soon. ;)

There must be a reason they changed it, can someone post photo of Crunch & Rebar's file side by side?
I just noticed from looking at my first picture they changed the side that the washer is on the Pliers head.
You might also notice the terrible rivet on the older versions. (in between the file and blade)

My one has a washer on both sides of the plier head.
Just realised I have both an old and new style file as well. One other difference I can see is that the old style file sits at exactly the same hight as the rolled edge, on the new style it sits just a touch lower than the edge. This means you don't get the teeth of the file digging into your hand quite so readily.
Of course that could just as easily be just a bit of manufacturing variation, anyone else want to check?

From those pics it looks like the angle the file teeth are cut at is different as well.
I noticed the newer file last year , there's some more info here http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,44172.0.html

I am thinking about potentially thinking about switching to a Rebar. Are all of the tools lockable like on the ST300?

Introducing the Rebar PS(V)
Thought I could fit a Victorinox 84mm scissors which I had available.
To me, it's perfect for the pocket. Probably because my Leatherman progression went:
PST (lost) > Wave > Rebar
When I brought home the Wave, it felt ginormous. I picked up a Skeletool for something lighter but it's more a pocket knive with a couple of extras rather than a multitool in my opinion. The Rebar hits the sweet spot in function and size, for me at least. :)

Nice! Got more pics of the closed scissors in the handle?
I think this rebar,my least expensive Leatherman, needs a twin brother.
I've honestly lost count of how many Rebars I have :facepalm:I think this rebar,my least expensive Leatherman, needs a twin brother.
I thought the same. Mine got a twin brother, then they both got another twin brother.

Pic of the scissors sitting in the tool bay, also the serrated knife beside the wood saw.
Need to correct something, scissors are from a 91mm SAK not a 84mm. Apologies.
I just bought the SS Rebar today. I heard too many good things about it.
I just bought the SS Rebar today. I heard too many good things about it.Most of what I read on here is good about it. I keep a Rebar in both of my EDC kits. I hope you enjoy yours :)
The Rebar rocks! I have been using mine exclusively as my only MT for a while now and I am not disappointed.im going to EDC it for a while and see how I like it. So far it's very compact and comfortable to carry. No SAK in your EDC?

I've been carrying my BO Fuse a little bit but have swapped back to the Rebar to find I don't like the way it feels as much as the Fuse (despite them being the same size). It's all due to the locks. I think I'm going to grind the sharp corners off the Rebar's ones and see if that improves it. They do actually stick out quite a way.
I've been building a foxhole radio for a bit of fun (haven't got it working yet :( ) and the rebars electrical crimpers have been coming in handy.

Been a proud Rebar owner for about 3 weeks now. Used a LM Wingman before that. I do miss my scissors and outside blade though. Probably going to get a wave or surge next year. (http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/426cih/DSCN3814_zps076de7c2.jpg)

Is it normal for BO rebar without any date stamp inside? My other LM has date stamps inside. The Rebars don't have date stamps for some reason. Not sure if that's the case for all of them, but both of mine don't have one.

Been thinking about why we have no date stamps and came to this conclusion. Say Leatherman puts the date stamps in its tools to track the 5 years warranty thing. Well I think they figure the Rebar is so hoss they don't need a date because they wont be needing to fix them.
Makes sense to me.

I carry my rebar in my watch pocket of my jeans. If it weren't for the lock tabs it would probably fit in the smaller sheaths. I have tried and it fits pretty good in the smaller sheaths til you get to the lock tabs then it will not go.

The Rebar is one of the best MT ever made.
Only a thing: this would be better if they change the original screw with torx screw to customize and to do a maintenance
I carry mine for work and play! I love the saw...its perfect for up in the tree work clearing for a blind to trimming work. I got mine as a warranty replacement for my Blast and love it! It's still tight (or maybe I'm just used to how loose my PST has become?) but it completely replaced the SAK Huntsman I've carried since 1983. It has everything the H-man had and then some.

Just got a Rebar today and I am VERY impressed. Great selection. I used to have a ST300 but it was too big for what I needed but the rebar is great. Replace the lanyard loop and can opener with scissors and it is perfect. (Pics coming soon)Enjoy the Rebar. I'm getting back into carrying mine more lately. It's much easier to carry than the larger multies. Love your avatar by the way :)

Nor have I. ??? Lanyard loops seem better for more outdoor tools. After a day or so thinking it over, I realized the loop is less valuable than the opener. and I must say I think I like the rebar MORE than the wave (especially once scissors get added) It has almost the same tool loadout in a very slim profile. Plus no mini bit driver :ahhh that thing drives me crazy.I like the rebar II and and reblaster, but I just don't like can openers on my multis only because I would never use it. replacing the can opener with scissors would work great for me. I wonder what percentage of people use the lanyard loop on their Rebars? I just did an image search on Google for "leatherman rebar lanyard" and could not find a single example of a lanyard attached. Does anyone use it? It's not like one is going to hang a Rebar around their neck with the loop. It hardly seem useful to me to extend the length since one can simply leave the handles extended (as I depicted here (http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,59006.0.html)).
I'm sure I'm just ranting about something that tons of people have before me :D

I picked up a rebar last week and it's my new EDC and I'm quite happy with it. It's replacing a swiss tool spirit x that was lost or stolen from my workplace. I'm happy to be carrying a LM again, I feel like I've been missing out. A few years back a had a Wave that I gave away to a friend in need. It's good to be back!Welcome to MTO. Thanks for the warm welcome guys.
One thing I noticed....the tang on the knives has a little tab that engages the lock mechanism when you open them. It makes it so the knives have a satisfying "snap" back into the handles when you close them. The file and saw don't have these tabs and are held in the handle with friction. Do you guys have any idea why the difference? (I like the snap personally.)
Googling, I found this pic. You see the difference in the tangs, the knife has that tab on the back. I wish the saw did!

Early next week a package will go in the mail, and I'll be officially OUT of this club >:D I was in for a brief time with a stock version when they first came out, but not for more than a few weeks. I then bought a decapitated BO one with a pair of BO Fuse (or something) CC pliers to fit instead, and set about building a knifeless version. There's only one way out of this club :twak: :twak: :twak:
That's now headed for a new home in Croatia, so instead of having a Knifeless Rebar, I'll just have Rebarless Knives
I've been thinking about adding the can opener back in the rebar for some time, so I gave it a go with wave and spirit pliers. But instead of removing the lanyard loop as originally planned, I took out the small flat driver. I don't need two flat drivers. And the product as follows (http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08/22/bda5e03221ad5886e2a88cca336409f1.jpg)
I'm very pleased with this. I put the opener back in because before it had capabilities of a full size mt, but couldn't open a bottle or can. now it has a full tool set without redundancy. I still have some clearance issues to work out but very minor. Overall very satisfying
Thanks. :salute: Yes I think so, but it would still need some slight work because the small driver is thicker than the loop. I kept it in, because I really only needed the large flat driver and I wanted the rebar to be as versatile as possible.I've been thinking about adding the can opener back in the rebar for some time, so I gave it a go with wave and spirit pliers. Didn't notice you marked the serrated blade as well. It does help it getting the right blade on the first round.
I wouldn't have ground down the can opener, but instead would have omitted it. Nice job though.
SteveC, that really looks amazing. Are you worried about the weakened tip of the can opener breaking? How much did you have to grind down the can opener. Between the lanyard ring and the washer on the phillips side, seems like a decent amount of space can be gained by rearranging.
I'll have to track down a pair of Wave scissors. (Anyone know where I might find those?) You have, IMO, the perfect multi tool there.
 There is a West Marine store not too far out of the way on the drive home from work....hmmm...

Is there a socket or tool to disassemble a Rebar?
I put the scissors in place of the can opener. I ditched the lanyard ring and ground down the thickness of the can opener so it would fit in it's place. If I did it over again I would probably just ditch the can opener.

Anyone know the point of leatherman squaring off the edges of the plier heads, like on the Rebar? I seem to prefer the much more rounded look and feel.
Yep. I'm sure you hit the nail on the head... :twak:Anyone know the point of leatherman squaring off the edges of the plier heads, like on the Rebar? I seem to prefer the much more rounded look and feel.
Probably has to do with money (cheaper to make them like this now)
I do like the more rounded plier heads of the oldschool LM as well
It's to strengthen the area that hold the replaceable cutters. They could have rounded the front half and left the angle behind the cutters

Well, now that I'm thinking about it again. My cheapo wingman has rounded plier head. So... ???It's to strengthen the area that hold the replaceable cutters. They could have rounded the front half and left the angle behind the cutters

I am sure every bit of material you remove to make it rounded would also probably weaken it as well :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

I great design for me, the Phillips, pliers and serrated blade are the 3 most used tools so far.

I haven't used it much yet except for the wire cutters. They went through zip ties last night like nobody's business. I've worn it on my belt the last couple days and it is so light that I hardly felt it.

I have yet to own a black oxide leatherman. But I'm sure I'll cross that off my list one day, maybe when it's time to replace the rebar I have now...
I think for sure that Stainless doesn't show wear and tear nearly as much right? I've used the hell out of some of my leathermans and allot of the time they look like they've only slightly been used. It'd be interesting to see for instance a year or wear on both, as a comparison.

Thanks Kaput. By the way, does your rebar have a date code? If yes, where is it? I can't find mind.... Though I don't think mine is a knock off..
Rebars don't have date codes. Thanks Steve.
Large 91mmThat's really cool! :like: Vic makes waaaay better scissors than LM.
I will be edcing the Rebar recently. I am finding every chance to use it these two days and I have never imagine it can be so mighty at this size. Great tool. It fills my gap between my Wingman and Surge perfectly and even more. It's more compact than the Wingman but it does more than the Wingman except the package opener and scissors. In my normal days I won't have hard jobs that has to be done by surge. I think the rebar can just handle my everything daily. Only when real hard jobs are expected, I'll take the Surge. The Wingman will be in my weekend bag It is still a great and capable tool.
I think it has been long enough since the Rebar was released to determine it is definitely in the top 5 of my favorite Leatherman's of all time.

Yay! I found the PE blade actually have a pretty good edge. That day when I just got it new, I said the PE edge wasn't sharp as I expected. I am those kind of lazy jerk who don't like sharpening. Just now, I tried to hon the PE blade against the back of a bowl (you know, flip over the bowl, excuse my poor English) for like 2 mins each side and the PE blade is now razor sharp. :like:

After playing with and getting every chance to use the Rebar for more than a week, the handles are a lot loosen up and easier to use. I have been oiling it a lot and keep open and close, open and close several hundred times everyday when I was watching TV. The handles are a lot looser and no longer stiff now and won't crack my figers when disengaging the pliers.
I noticed a weird situation to the pliers. When I open up the pliers, they are super loose and easy to use. The pliers can be opened by gravity but after some work like wire cutting or some harder screw or even I squeese the handle hard for nothing, the pliers would become noticeably stiffer. It can still be opened with one hand easily but not by gravity. I checked the cutting blade under this situation and see them a bit scratching each others. I have to disengage the pliers and reopen it or twist the pliers a slightly bit to get rid of the situation. Does that happen to yours? By the way, I found the cutting blade on the pliers align perfectly. They cut hair!!! That's amazing precision. Is that the reason to cause stiffer plier after hard squeezes?
 I don't seem to have that problem but mine won't cut hair either :o Occasionally I have to tighten the cutters up as that seems to loosen from time to time but mine is a few years old as well ;) Hope you figure out what's causing that though :tu:

I think I can live with it. Not really a big deal.
It's cool to have a rebar with scissors!! But I really don't know what to give up for the scissors. I am always hoping LM would provide "create your own". That would be super cool.
Gotta love the rebar, but I'm with Poncho on the scissors. I can't believe LM has come out with a knifeless version but can't seem to come out with a version that has both scissors and a blade. Hell, I'd almost be willing to give up the serrated blade....almost.

I guess I'm a little more biased to the original model, if I had to pick one. And although I have the scissors modded into my rebar too, I could totally get by without them it seems. Scissors are good for cutting threads and clipping coupons :D but I seem to be able to manage with only NEEDING scissors infrequently. And I do use the serrated edged blade enough to not want to go without it.Gotta love the rebar, but I'm with Poncho on the scissors. I think it would be in LM's best interest to have a version that ditched the SE blade and added scissors and still kept the PE blade  They would have to rearrange a few things because of the lock tab hump but I still think it would be worth it :dd:
That's an interesting take. I actually prefer the Wave style scissors over the wingman. On thing the wave scissors accomplished (because of the smaller size) you can have a full plain edge and serrated blade, saw, file, and scissors. Instead of substituting the scissors for one long tool, you get all four plus scissors. Again not saying your wrong, because your uses are different and experience is never normative. The wave scissors aren't perfect. I would rate them third. 1) Gerber Flik 2) 91mm Vics 3) Wave. The best scissors I've used on a multi so far has been the Flik scissors. Really strong and they don't have the leaf spring like the vics. It's still a close race with all three. Leatherman needs to do what Poncho did....and Kampfer....and Breezy.....they should just hire MTO members for their R & D departmentI guess I'm a little more biased to the original model, if I had to pick one. And for me another factor may just be the quality of the wave scissors. They're just ok. Definitely not great by most standards. In fact the scissors on my wingman are vastly better and bigger. most of the time I'm able to use a knife for the same thing I could use the scissors for, so it's close to a wash for me.
With all that said, I won't remove the scissors from my rebar. They are much nicer to have in lieu of the spacers and lanyard hole. :tu:
Also I won't tell leatherman my feelings on the matter, because I like you guys! :D

I can't believe LM has come out with a knifeless version but can't seem to come out with a version that has both scissors and a blade. Hell, I'd almost be willing to give up the serrated blade....almost.
I think it would be in LM's best interest to have a version that ditched the SE blade and added scissors and still kept the PE blade  They would have to rearrange a few things because of the lock tab hump but I still think it would be worth it :dd:
And for me another factor may just be the quality of the wave scissors. They're just ok. Definitely not great by most standards. In fact the scissors on my wingman are vastly better and bigger. most of the time I'm able to use a knife for the same thing I could use the scissors for, so it's close to a wash for me.
With all that said, I won't remove the scissors from my rebar. They are much nicer to have in lieu of the spacers and lanyard hole. :tu:
Also I won't tell leatherman my feelings on the matter, because I like you guys! :D
Simple online customization brotha, before you buy! It's coming :tu:That's an interesting take. I actually prefer the Wave style scissors over the wingman. On thing the wave scissors accomplished (because of the smaller size) you can have a full plain edge and serrated blade, saw, file, and scissors. We can hope :dd: but I just hope if they go this route that the tools won't double in price when they do :bnghd: :D
So. For shiggles, what is the ideal Rebar?
Diamond file
s30v
better awl
large bit holder
scissors
pocket clip
rounded plier head
:multi:
Personally I also like/need theSo. For shiggles, what is the ideal Rebar?

I forgot what the reblasterx has and dosent have. The gut hook I don't think everyone would NEED, but the serrated/hook combo blade may be a good compromise.

I really dig that pocketclip mod! That's another thing I wish LM included on more models. They only made the Kick with the optional clip pivot, and I think it would have been a smart choice to include that hollow threaded pivot on at least the Rebar, but maybe the wave as well. I've never been a fan of the Wave's clip.
Or just bring back the sideclip and make us all happy again...
It does seem rather silly that they don't use the hollow rivet on the Rebar. It would be an easy and cheap thing to implement and make a great tool better. Add scissors while you are at it Leatherman :poke:

But then what would you do in your free time?

Of course you could spend it on here :pok: :D
I like your belt clip Poncho! I actually pack mine everyday at work on my belt in its leather pouch. I lost track of the number of times I've put it to use.

Got another Rebar and this one is from Demel and has the Wave/Blast plier head and scissors in it already  I carried it today and now I am on the fence about which plier head I :like: better now ??? I do find it handy that you can change the cutters on the other plier head but I think that I get better cutting results from this type plier head  Oh well I shall carry both either way :DThat was was the same trouble I had. The replaceable cutters seem like the best thing since sliced bread, but many times using them I actually wished I had the wave plier head. It really comes down to preference.

Very nice one Poncho. What was the source of the file? Does it have diamond on one side, metal file on the other and saw at the edge? I'd like to have all those three features in my Rebie, including saw that really cuts metal.
I consider Surge file for that place because it is easy available as a spare part. Will it fit? of course with reasonable portion of grinding ;)

That extra clip is what gives Rebar a totally different dimension. Wish LM included it as an option, though.

I had noticed that about him only putting one at a time  Do you think demand will stay higher if he only lists them that way :shrug:Or he wants the extra for shipping separately?

I found myself carry the rebar a lot less after getting the skeletool, but when I really need to work on something, I am still going back to rebar. The weight and effectiveness of skeley is irresistable for EDC standby tool but when it comes to real jobs, I still rely on the rebar.

I have been extremely impressed by the black Oxide quality. I unknowingly thought that it would always wear off on my hands (which it did first couple days, but not bad, and has since stopped). And I thought it would look like hell very shortly after edc'ing. The tips have worn off some black, but the handles and plier head are still really nice.

It looks to be a nicer sheath :o :like: :like: I have never had any problem with the rivets scratching but never paid attention to that either  If you are bothered by this you can always glue some tiny pieces of leather or cloth over them :tu:Good call man! I had put scotch tape over them temporarily. But maybe a more permanent solution would help. I will mention the holster is snug to begin with so it would have to be thin stock. I'll give that a shot probably. Thanks :salute:
Great pics and thanks for sharing this about the sheath
I used small pieces of Gorilla black duck tape, it's very strong and sticks to leather without any problem. Works perfect!Thank you. I have a roll in my tool bag. Sounds thin enough and uber tuff. Thanks guys

Scout is awesome!! Congrats and great pics!
Some thoughts on the Rebar, now I've had it nearly 24 hours...
The leather sheath...half as thick gauge leather as the PST sheath and the rivets don't seem to have washers to prevent rip- through. But still seems like a good quality sheath. Good. Not excellent like the PST.
Rebar has no date codes. I don't know why for the life of me. The blasted sheath has a Made in Mexico sticker inside with a date code of January 2017. The sheath does. The tool does not. Enigmatic.
Rebar is a quality tool. I've been debating buying it for years, and have bought for gifts.
Stiff plyer head, which I read will loosen over time.
Nice rolled edges! Not as completely rolled as my '07 Surge, but not bad
Super Tool 300's little brother for sure
Blades are sharp right out of the box
Love it's old-school design, size, weight, and inside opening tools.
The Blast is actually much better at giving up one tool at a time...or should I oil Rebar up a bit to solve that?
Even still I love it and love that there is an old school design still available and without zytel
Now my pants will stay up, as I will leave the Surge in my bag or my truck.
That's all for now. Am I off base or on point?
Glad to hear you are liking it so far :tu: You can always add scissors :pok:
I do agree that Leatherman should have put scissors on the Rebar from the get go as there is room.
Thanks for the details, Poncho.
I will admit, the date codes on my Blast are very faint, but not sure I'm buying that stamping issue reason for no dates on the Rebar...after all, they found a way to stamp "B02" into it at the lock release without it shining through.
The file seems to be more aggressive than the one on the old model Surge, and cut square at the end as opposed to being cut at an angle.
I really like this one. Little ST300, but scissors instead of that lanyard ring would have really made this even more exceptional. Are there date codes in the ST300?
Glad to hear you are liking it so far :tu: You can always add scissors :pok:

If they only care to answer you because you're active on MTO, they aren't worth it. They need to treat ALL clients the same.
This counts for ALL manufacturers!
Agreed on all counts, Mech. And I was happy to receive a response so quickly. I'm three hours ahead of Oregon, so, I'm more that happy with the speed of response
Thanks for the details, Poncho.

Lost my original one that I bought when the Rebar came out and I am thinking it did have datecodes and it did sorta show through on the handle :ahhh I also added scissors and just lost the lanyard ring :D Yes the ST300 does have datecodes :tu:
Congrats on the new Rebar, how are you liking after having for a bit ?
Glad to hear she said they are still 154  but it still doesn't sound right since they aren't putting it on the package  We need to watch this and see if anyone starts noticing any difference with the way these cut over the previous ones :think:I mainly more often than not cut soft braided wires and cables so I won't notice a huge difference, if there was one. 154cm is great tho. I really like that steel, definitley hope it stays.
I still don't get it why I bought a Rebar (will arrive in 1-2 months) even though I already have a Wingman and a Charge TTi (medium MTs). My mind said a Surge or a Juice S2 was a logical choice, but I kept gravitating back to a Rebar. Even now I keep looking at various Rebar pics.Wouldn't necessarily be an argument where you live but in countries which allow locking blades but not OHO the Rebar might have an appeal...
I honestly don't know the appeal.
Its no nonsense design? Maybe. Someone said its the essential Working Man's tool

I like my Rebars, I own 3. A Stainless, a BO, and a Coyote Tan. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171022/2d38c48e18e7c75ef80c9801096f0dbf.jpg)
Tonight while prepping for work week, and was planning to substitute the Coyote for the Stainless. But by accident discovered the tools are not identical. My stainless and BO both
Have the smaller flat blade and the Coyote has a wider blade, yet smaller than the wide blade on all 3.
Was curious if other owners with their Rebars have the smaller taper flat blade? If this common with the Color versions released as limited additions, or just unique to the Coyote or just mine?
Your replies are very welcomed. TIA

The coating on these feel better than the rest I've felt.Love that rebar kaput!!! Super nice! :like:I've been on the search! Thanks Glockfan. Yeah has good style but isn't obnoxious in the slightest. Are they no longer available?
Haven't seen them on the site in awhile. Should of grabbed when I first saw them.
Contrary to what the wife says, I need to get my hands on one. The hunt sure is fun tho!

Not sure about the LM one you have, but I thought the coyote one from Cabelas had a weird feel to it. Still love it tho.

Are those old pallet boards ?
They are some 3X4 boards that I actually stacked together to give an old weathered deck look because they are old and weathered :D I like the background that they give :tu: So I have been using them a lot lately  Better than most of my backgrounds at work as I get home after dark for a while longer yet :ahhh
Explained the issue, had the receipt yet, which reduced any questions.
We inspected the replacement, it was good, I signed for the exchange. They then provided me the entire package including sheath, returned the original sheath, and then provided a $20 rebate for my troubles.
Better than ever expected.
It will be over a month before i can carry this beauty due to the Spirit challenge :ahhhGreat purchase.

Here is my Rebar with a Raine Horizontal Knife Sheath from Amazon (around $10):
/4734/38745896284_28dc581dfd_z_d.jpg[/img]
I'm new here and most of you probably know where to get a good horizontal sheath, but I had a hard time finding one that wasn't $40 or $50. I thought if there were people like me looking for one, this would help. It works great and I don't even know it's there.
I'd say almost as beautiful as your duotone Rebars, Poncho

Tonight while prepping for work week, and was planning to substitute the Coyote for the Stainless. But by accident discovered the tools are not identical. My stainless and BO both
Have the smaller flat blade and the Coyote has a wider blade, yet smaller than the wide blade on all 3.
Was curious if other owners with their Rebars have the smaller taper flat blade? If this common with the Color versions released as limited additions, or just unique to the Coyote or just mine?
Your replies are very welcomed. TIA

Folks, what is the exact size of our Rebar's Phillips screwdriver? Will a drive 1/4 " 6.35MM square fit?
From vague memory it's around 5 - 5.3mm but can't confirm that until tomorrow sorry.
I've got my LM tools at home but as far as I can remember from the Phillips tool swap between my Wave and the Rebar this should be close to 5 mm, as zoid says. The 1/4"-square hole is unlikely to be able to hold on to that.Ah, so this won't fit, DT?
The 1/4” drive sockets are bigger than the Phillips head.
Yes, the Rebar and crunch at similar. Here is compatibility list of bit extender

I missed this thread when the question was still open, but yeah, I came up with the same solution to the problem, the adapter from my Ganzo G201 fits the Rebar. There's a little wiggle, but as it's evident from the tape on the Ganzo, it was the same with the tool it came with. Anyway, good enough and way cheaper and more universal than the LM adapter.
Oh, and it fits the Juice driver as well.
Finally found the bit kit I was looking for! Bought this generic multitool that came with a nice sheath and bit kit for less than $7. Fits my Rebar and Juice perfectly. I'm one happy camper!I remember your pictures and recalled I had a similar tool set in my truck’s console, (Christmas gift a few years ago).

I'm guessing that you may have addressed this before, but did you slap on that shine with a buffing wheel? Looks great.
I wouldn't try forcing a Patina on BO. You might remove the oxide coating.I mean, just the bits, not the Rebar. Still not advisable, SteveC?
^ agree with Steve. Just wipe down and allow time, handling and your rough hands to create a one of a kind patina that you will truly appreciate. :multi:Thanks for the useful tips! True, I may just let time apply the patina.
nice set up, I carry the same kit, but separate of the Rebar. I also use the kit with the ST300 and have an extender with the WAVE and Surge. One bit kit shared by multiple tools.
Also, try reversing the rebar in the pouch, with hinge down. It should sit lower, and may allow the one bit sheath to right on the back side better, so the Rebar is not sandwiched between the two sheaths.
Thanks for the useful tips! True, I may just let time apply the patina. That is why we have 30 day challenges :pok:
I also recently aquired a used ST300. Its my first 4.5" LM and I admit Im still debating whether to bring it as my LM inside my bag or the Rebar. The ST300 feels infinitely more capable!

Do you have sheath for ST300? Also, are you aware of Super Tool Saturday, (still Saturday here), unsure if Sunday yet in your part of the world.
What I like about the duo, is that regardless which one is with me, I have the same tool set, no need to carry both. My Rebar gets duty out and about, the ST300 more around the home front and large projects.
Congrats on the ST300 :tu:

That's super cool the way you swapped the parts around like that, end result is amazing! ...well done sir! :tu:
Well, i spent a lot on some leathermans last 2 weeks, got a skeletool CX because my wave, bit kit, aaa light and what else was in my skinth, were to heavy for my shorts, then realized i wanted a crunch too for grabbing stubborn nuts and broken screws.
After that, i thought, it might be handy to have a good but cheaper tool than a wave to hang arround in the car or work bag.
After reading here, i decided on the Rebar.
It looks stronger than the a wingman i once had, altough the price was almost the same.
It came with a small leather sheath, but the skeletool Cx came with a big nylon one, perfect suited for the rebar and bit kit! (Skeletool is worn skeleted, clipped in the pocket).
Did some paracord in yellow to it, functional, but looks good too
Now only need to find a aa or preferred aaa sized yellow flashlight ....
Skeletool is a bare minimum i agree, but calling it pointless is a bit too harsh i think.
It is very personal if a tool works for anyone, to me a skeletool has its purposes, many days i do not need more than pliers, good knife, wire cutters and screwdriver, and i want it to be in my shorts pocket, not on a belt.
Good choice !
Didnt even carry it a lot yet, but like it a lot allready.
September i am in for the wave challenge allready , Maybe october a rebar challenge to get totally familiar with it....
:multi: :pok: :pok: :pok: Wspeed better get ur Rebar

Ultimate Rebar n00b question: my Rebar feels really stiff in the pliers.
I tried to oil them = no difference
Been opening and closing them repeatedly = no difference
Is this how they are supposed to be or do they have a break-in period?

Worry not, it will break in. For me it took a weekend of fidgeting with it, since then it's smooth and loose in a good way, opening-closing is completely effortless. Just keep at it.

When I got my Rebar the pliers were way too tight and I didn't like it very much! But now I've loosened them off I love it, it's one of my favourite tools.
I do like my pliers fairly loose though, I find it makes my job easier!
Finally got my RebarNice one how are you liking it so far :tu: :like:

Out of curiosity, is it normal that the pliers become stiff when you crimp / squeeze hard on something with them, and then you wiggle them a little bit and then they become loose again?
Because mine are like that..

Yes!!
Mine were like that on my new Rebar and on my new Wave+
Very annoying
Yeah! The Rebar was really bad.... Locked up really tight, used grinding paste to free them off, they're fine now.
Wave+ are slightly better through lots of use.

The Rebar and I have a bit of a history together ...
The first one I got (right after release) failed on me after two days of nothing else but taking pics of it.
The second one I got (replacement of the first one) was missaligned by half the thickness of a handle ... so back to the store with that one.
I got so tired of it that, instead of replacing the second one with yet another Rebar I got myself a Wave.
But one year later I once again stood face to face with a Rebar at the local outdoor store and decided to give it another go. And as they say, third time's a charm and this one was perfect in every way :D. Some time later I got myself a BO Rebar and it was also perfect, and since then the Rebar has become one of my favorite multitools out there.
And then one of the members here starts a topic "Should I get a Rebar", showing pics of the Coyote version and immediately I was like .
So guess what ::).

And I saw the Plasmatics in 81 at Perkin's Palace near LA. I also met Wendy around that same time on Melrose Ave in Hollywood at a record shop called Vinyl Fetish.

Guys, i know the info i need is somewhere here, but where?! :D so, can somebody tell me what tools you use for those screws/nuts that hold the rebar tools together? Loki is not available now. Thank you!
Thank you! Still trying to find something at home. I tried with the wenger needlenose pliers but those are not really made for that. And I have no reason/access/real need to the real tool area until... well, who knows?! I want to remove some of the tools to make it lighter. Because, you know, i won't have reasons to carry it anyway now

What is Leatherman doing
Multitools, i've heard
Yes but not very good anymore :D
It's a can opener not a bottle opener ;)
I will, anyway.
So?! What is it!?
They can call it a bottle opener but it is what it is, a can opener.
Knowing Leatherman it is probably a typo anyway :)

OT to all forumers: I'm thinking of replacing the spacer washer on my Kinfeless with a Rev/Wingman/Sidekick package opener, Yea or Nay?
Thanks, Steve, for the hint. However (and excuse my ignorance), is it a dry lube, a paint; can you show me a picture of the product?
I'd guess it must be good as someone here in the forums used it on an SOG saw, and I think also on a Mini.
:hatsoff: :tu:
Thanks Barry, I knew I should: here's the result!
I thought that the use of a spacer was a wasted proposition, ever since I got my Knifeless. So, after pondering to get a knife blade (combo or serrated; which would've defeated the "knifeless" purpose/would've been an expensive proposition) and knowing it already had an awl and scissors, I looked at my comatose Rev and decided to pull it's plug and make it a donor; out comes the package opener! Now i'll think forever about it every time I carry the Rebar. :multi:
Opinions still welcomed. :hatsoff:

I've been wanting to do a Rebar Challenge for a long time. I love carrying mine. Mrs R used mine to take a burnt out bulb from a lamp she has. It was hard to get at, but those pliers fit right in.I’d be up for the challenge Barry. Only had the Rebar a few months and already one of my all time favourite PBMT’s
Welcome aboard!!Ahoy, matey! Okay, I’m stopping there. At least in the absence of my Rebar, I can customize the SOG PowerLock I picked up. I’m strongly considering changing the loadout of tools to more closely match that of my Rebar, or with some personal touches. I do love that SOG sells alternative and replacement parts for some of their multitools.
That coyote etching looks stunning; is the blade getting its own too?; pictures when it arrives, please! :tu: :like:I wanted to get line art of the Three Sisters Generating station by Lake Powell, where my father worked at one time, but I couldn’t find anything like I wanted. This one is my most heavily modded one :tu: It is color swapped with BO handle and plier head, it has Wave/Charge scissors, a Wave/Charge diamond file grinded down at the pivot end to match the lock tabs of the Rebar vs the liner locks of the tool it came out of, the can opnener sharpened at the tip to also be a package opener and the tools have been reordered just a bit to be able to keep everything in whilst also gaining scissor :salute: only losing the lanyard ring ;) and lastly I swapped out the pivot to a LM Kick pivot so it would accept the Kick clip and screw :tu: the Kick clip has a tab that is normally turned down and another member actually cut a slot in the handle to accomodate this and made it more sturdy but I just flattened it out a bit and had to get the tension just right to keep it in place and also be able to get the tools out without to much problem
The next one is just the reversed color swap partner of the above :tu: otherwise it is factory, at least I think it is  :D
(https://i.imgur.com/9g8h4Zgh.jpg)
The 2 together can give you a bit of a comparison as to where I swapped what to fit the scissor in  others have accomplished the same but some have done so with different order :tu:
Also of note, you have to put the scissors beside a long tool and they cannot be on the outside because they won't work because of the way the lock tabs are made :salute: otherwise it is a straight drop in mod and adds a lot of versatility to the Rebar :like:
Great pic, Surge :tu: Great usage as well :like:Thanking you :hatsoff:
:nanadance: :nanadance:
Today was bike cleaning and battery maintenance.
The Rebar helped undo the scews :tu:
What bike do you have? It's just a little Yamaha MT 125 used for commuting (9 miles each way) Mostly town centre stuff no motorways (freeways)
Great pic! The Rebar is my daily carry, helps me with my bike all the time!
It's just a little Yamaha MT 125 used for commuting (9 miles each way) Mostly town centre stuff no motorways (freeways)I’m currently riding a Triumph America. Decided to move on from the sport Bikes of my younger days and slow down a bit.
I've had it since 2015 and put 30,000 miles on it and it's still going strong (it gets looked after :tu: )
Also, it's the largest bike I can get through my garden gate, to work on (the walkway means it has to go in at an angle ::) )
What do you have then...
Just gave my Rebar a well deserved pocket clip from Nite Ize. Had to cut the corner to be more comfortable and also not to put much pressure on the clip while squeezing the plier. Will see how long that 3M VHB tape will hold.Keep us posted as to how the clip works M, from what I’ve heard they stick on pretty well to SAKs and hard to remove so hopefully a good solution
Also I'd like to ask if anyone tried to drill a hole for the Free pocket clip on any multitool. Because if this one wont work out Im gonna have to do it.
First time ever to use the can opener on a multi. My boy put his little lego men in an empty beer can and the Rebar had to help geting them out.

Thank you. I am really digging that red background for these recent photos.
(https://i.imgur.com/OZeGjrDh.jpg)After spending waaay too much time on this forum looking at all of the pictures, I gave into the temptation to order a Rebar today. I hope you all are happy! ;-). I think it will be a nice update to my Blast. Now I’m fighting the temptation for either a Supertool 300 or a Swisstool X.

D, you will not be dissappointed, and I for one want to see pictures when it arrives! Congrats on a great tool. :tu:
Congrats  Not seen that type of sheath with the new logo on it yet :o :like:Thank you. I really like the Rebar. I’m waiting on the nylon pouch with pockets and bit kit to arrive, but I really like this nicely fit leather pouch too.
Congrats on both of your new acquisitions, dmattaponi, you'll be very pleased with the Rebar nd the Premium sheath. :tu:Thank you. I do like the convenient kit.
For what you describe, you'll have a very comprehensive compact tool kit at your reach whenever you need it! :like:
:tu: :hatsoff:I’m glad to hear you are so satisfied with the Rebar. I’m liking it too. I also usually like to have scissors on my multitools, but I usually go for a SAK when I want scissors, so I was willing to give the Rebar a try. It’s about perfect, except for the scissors. I am looking forward to having a serrated blade.
The rebar has become my “if I could only edc one MT“ MT
The wave is easier to deploy but a bit heavier and using the saw particularly, less comfortable to use. The Spirit has the nicest action but again heavier and on my XC, just the butter blade so I need to carry another blade.
The only thing the Rebar is missing is scissors and over the last few months on knife only challenges I’ve not really missed them as much as I thought I would
And in BO well what’s not to like :D
:whistle:Very nice!
Thanks Ponch :hatsoff:. I managed to get the clip a little bit further to the right in the pic than on the Bond (LM could have done the same TBH) so that the Rebar sits deeper in the pocket.
Acute observers will note this is my mixed SS/BO Rebar :D
Well, all it takes is a stationary drill of some kind, a centre drill bit (I used a 1.5 mm), an HSS drill bit @ 1.8 mm, a tap set (said UNC 2-56) and handle and the kit.
Nice EDC kit :tu: :like: :like:Thank you. I like it. The only problem I’m having with it as an edc is competition from the Bond/Vic Compact, and the soon to arrive original PST…but there are definitely worse things in life than a little good natured competition between ones various edc options :-)

I nominate this for quote of the day. :cheers:Lol
Added a Vic Rambler to the Rebar kit for the nice little SAK scissors. Along with a pocket notebook, it makes for a decent little grab and go edc.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210608/6e37304fb0747f70484f23ab2a62b6aa.jpg)Very nice! Good idea. May steal it.

Rides in my hiking/woods pack. Great tool.A pocket clip on the Rebar…that would be awesome!
(https://i.imgur.com/B1vtj7vh.jpg)Nice choice for colors. I know I love the coyote and black, as I wear/use it when I’m not sporting my customized Charge. I even recently used my Charge’s saw to cut some roots out of the way, so I could help my Mom plant a new Eucalyptus tree, after losing two Palo Verde trees to weather.

I would love to add a pocket clip to my Rebar, but I wouldn't want to do anything to void the warranty :(
The middle one is a dual color Rebar so it is stainless handles and BO tools and plier head ;)
I made this one and have the opposite twin of it as well (that one is in the picture above it with a Kick clip modded on it )
:twak: for making me think there was something wrong with my eyes
The combination of the black tools and tan handles looks great. And having a grippy surface is good. I don't know about you (I suspect that it may be true for you too since you are a mason) but after working 36+ years in construction my hands are a little dry and slick and don't work quite as well as they used to. Non-slippery handles can be helpful.
I am not a big fan of all BO MTs, but the two tone MTs you have put together really are appealing to me :tu:

Keep us (me!) posted! :2tu:
I had a plain one for today.
Thanks!
I think it is a great tool also. But I am waiting to get a used Rebar before I actually use one (I hope Poncho does not see this )
Okay! Okay! Okay! :D
There is a chance that I will use it in December. I have not signed up for a challenge, so I may decide to go for the Rebar 30 day badge.
Thanks!

Wait, there’s a Rebar challenge this December? :like:
Where do I sign up?
I’m thinking it’ll be the best venue to test how the mods will hold up or if the tool is gonna blow apart like in a cartoon. (December is usually a Spirit X month for me due to the holidays)
If you only knew how many tools I have that I haven't used ::)
But seriously, the Rebar is an awesome tool and that it a great pic :like: but you need to use it :pok: :D
I think you all need to get Rebar Challenge going :pok:
:D
I have multiple tools that I will never use, such as a CRKT Zilla-Tool.
I have multiple tools I should have never bought, such as a CRKT Zilla-Tool
I did carry the Rebar for a couple of days, but it was overly tight and I did not have the loki wrenches at that time. Looks like I will have another go at it in December ;)
I think you all need to get Rebar Challenge going :pok:
:D
:iagree:

Plans suddenly took a bad turn when the seller mistakenly sent me eyeglass screwdriver holder instead of the bit holder. Yeah, he was telling me to keep it and he’ll just send the correct part but in good faith plus having no current use for it, I opted to send it back for refund and start the process of purchase all over again.
Item return pickup is scheduled tomorrow so the entire process may take the whole week.
That is a great mod :tu: and adds a lot of flexibility as well :like:
I haven't found that the LM Phillips Adapter added any wobble though  (I do prefer the bit driver mostly over the dedicated Phillips though) I keep the adapter with me even when I have a bit driver because it is very handy when you happen to carry a square shank Phillips LM  that specific bit card never leaves my sheath though :D
A pic of the card with the adapter :tu:

To think I was *this* close to removing the smaller flat driver%u2026.only for it to become the MVP of today%u2019s task. It was a bit of %u201Cprecision%u201D work as the small flat was used to poke a clip thru its hole to remove the whole male port assembly.
The PH1-2 bit also bit very well into the very small screw that held 2 halves of a plastic housing together.
The medium screwdriver can be made even versatile by slimming it down :tu:

I’m going to do this before the Rebar challenge. December means Christmas, Christmas means toys, toys mean lots and lots of recessed screws. :hatsoff:
:iagree: and a MT really shines :woohoo: :like::iagree:
How’d you guys add a Wave/Charge/Surge pocket clip to a Rebar?
Is there any way of adding a pocket clip without having to drill the frame?

Hey Pete, I think the s blade is approx 1.78mm and the wave scissors 2.48mm.
There should be enough washers or a lanyard ring in there you could remove to make space.
It doesn't have to be a perfect match, the pivot will give you some room too.
G'Day,
I read through a few Rebar scissors mod threads, but have not found the info I am looking for. I am thinking of adding a scissors to a standard Rebar. I don't like the serrated blade, which will most likely be the left out victim. My question is regarding thickness of the serrated blade and the scissors: are they the same or similar? If I ditch the serrated blade will there be enough space to drop a scissors in. Inner tools may have to be moved around, I understand this. For now I just want to make sure there will be enough space if the serrated blade goes.
Cheers, Pete
I'm in!

Time for me to join this club, if I may. I bought this Rebar last year intending to make it a survival kit component. Since I've worked out a deal on a Leatherman that may better fill that role, the Rebar will get carried with some regularity.

Looks stunning, and the black clip really compliments the tool (looks even better than the silvery one!); would you mind telling us (me!) how you did it?
Now, because of your pictures Olive, my quest for a Coyote-Tan-Knifeless -Rebar begins!

Is it possible my Rebar does not have date in the handles?
@namelesske
No date codes on the Rebar
Another reason the Rebar is special!(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230124/abf7207e866ab7fa11b7816d0232b38e.jpg)
Without date codes in the handle, it likely has a lifetime warranty
By your sheath, yours is part of the Heritage Series, Introduced around 2018 (year). Going by copywrite date on the back of a package in lower right edge. [ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]

Of all of them the Coyote Tan one looks the best  but all Rebars still look really great to me as well :salute: :like::iagree: The Coyote Tan was a Cabela’s exclusive back several years. And was a good seller. The Rebar pulls it off the best of any LM tools,

Great pic Poncho!IMHO, it is UNDER-APPRECIATED as it has been in the shadows of the WAVE 2nd gen, and many novice insist on One Hand knife tool access, with bit exchange and scissors.
Rebar is an underrated tool.

Just buy a BO and SS model and do the color swap :pok:
then take a Kick apart for the pivot and use a Kicl clip  :D
That's actually on my "someday" list already
That's the reason I have so many Kicks with clips - I would buy one to scavenge the clip, but I liked it too much to disassemble... so I would buy another to scavenge the clip. Well damn if I didn't like that one too. Now I have 6 Kicks with clips :ahhh
Very nice!
Did you take the time to high-light the lettering and ruler marks. They standout impressively. 😉
Most excellent picture Steve!
Love the Rebar, a favorite! Wow, that trad is nice, too😉
But😍, the rock they are on, that is impressive, is it part of your landscaping?
That is a beautiful back drop.
Has anyone found a substitute for the LM knurled bolt/screws on the plier end of the Rebar? Knifekits.com has torx head substitutes for tool end bolts.
Stunning photos Poncho!
