Would that be UK carry legal? The cutting edge is protected when you fold it over the key  :-\

I know I wouldn't worry about it.  There's no way it could be used to cut someone is there?

Anything with a recessed blade I class as a safe bet, otherwise pencil sharpeners would be illegal to carry :)

It does look quite clever, I wonder what the quality is like?

If enough are interested I may see about getting some to put on EDCS.  Be straight with me, what would you consider to be a good price and I'll run the numbers.

I think a good price would be £6 + post  :salute: I want one it looks like something I'd use

[edit] I just checked price online $7.95 + $6.51 shipping to the UK  :o :ahhh

anyone want to trade a polished Gerber artifact for one?  :D

I'm not a lawyer so couldn't really say but I personally wouldn't worry about carrying anything with a recessed edge such as this tool or something like the Raker Ring Tool.

Mine just arrived today.  First impression is that it's ok for what it cost($7.95 + s/h).  It comes with a plastic key in the package along with a metal clip(similar to McGizmo type, possibly stainless).  The edges are a bit sharp and thin, but a quick test of all the screwdrivers showed they worked, including the small eyeglass driver.  The tweezers managed to pull a few whiskers being short as they are.  The nail cleaners also worked.  The file on the back is too lightly machined/grooved to be useful.  At present, I don't have any tasty bottled beverages to test the cap lifter on... :-\

It's a loose fit over a key, but seems to stay in place when hanging suspended.  I guess I'll find out if it rotates open while pocketed, and proceeds to cut/stab/puncture my pocket/leg.   :ahhh

I did manage to cut a bit of paracord with the cutter, but it was not quick, not clean, nor pretty.  Had to play with it, pulling down and wiggling it side to side...(that's what she said...) :D

I'm thinking of becoming a member of a sewing forum  :D can it cleanly cut thread?
Title: Re: Super-thin Keychain Bottle Opener
Post by: Stormdrane on April 30, 2010, 09:50:05 PM
It does cut thread more easily than it did the paracord, but it's not a clean cut like you'd get with a pair of SAK, Squirt, or Micra scissors.  Piggybacking on a key and not taking up valuable key ring real estate is certainly a plus for the KeyTool, so I still like the little bit of utility it does have.   :D

I received mine yesterday and I'm very unhappy with the quality, even for $7.95. I would recommend saving your $$$ and passing on this one. Like Stormdrane said, it's too loose on the key and I'm afraid I'll get jabbed with it.  ::)  I will give them high marks for the design idea though.  :tu:

Thinking of the design it could be better  :D i.e a proper file and made from 2mm SS oh! and perhaps a hardened cutting edge wouldn't go a miss either  :tu:

I added a small rubber band to secure the KeyTool to the key.   So, hopefully that will reduce the chance of me unexpectedly grabbing my thigh and hollering, 'Arghhhhh!', which might throw a sense of confusion or panic into those around me, as I stroll through the local wallyworld.  The herd is easily spooked...:ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

I have one of these love it! If you're from the UK get it straight from the maker, must be the cheapest version, although on search I did notice Iwantoneofthose stock it too ...

I got mine at < link removed >

Don't have any problems with it coming off of the key but I do keep mine in my handbag all the time mostly find it a tight fit though and I have too bought one for my whole family,
we're all space saving geeks :)

today i am looking at keychain bottle openers (cap lifters). AliX has a nice selection, some are reposted on amazon (but also shipped from the chinas). this model is only 2€ on AX [item# 32965327252] and possibly a candidate (it wouldn't work too well on my weird keys i guess).

are yours still in use after all deez nuts, or have you found something more likable for the keychain,
maybe item# 4001283587573:

Or item# 1005004679468987:
