I was looking at my Timekeeper today, and I realized that the back of the hook has a nail file on the back of it. Why isn't the nail file on all SAKs with the hook? LOL!
-
The Compact has a file as well. I belive it's unique to only these two models.
-
No is not. The XAVT also has this kind of hook (it has two). Here are some pics and an article from SOSAK (the file is supposed to strike matches)

That monster has almost everything in it :D and yep it's for striking matches.

I do not think the engraved file surface on the back side of some hooks is a model choice but rather more of timing, when the new feature came out. Here is a photo showing 2 hooks for comparison.

None of my other SAKs with scissors/hook layer have the file.

Just checked my Timekeeper and it's missing the file as well. I do have a Compact on the way, and maybe that one will have it. Anyone with a later model sak other that Compact/Timekeeper have a file on their hook???
-
My new Swisschamp hasn't got it. I think it's limited to the Compact and Time Keeper (plus XVAT etc). As to why just these models I don't know. Perhaps it's a money thing, any extra processing will add to the production cost. Maybe it's just a conceptual idea, the Compact & Time Keeper are supposed to be the most feature laden SAKs for the size. The main Victorinox site lists the Time Keeper as having a multi-purpose hook with nailfile. All the rest I've looked at just list it as Multi-purpose hook.

So is this the new best SAK now then? :pok: :P

My Traveller Lite has the file on the back of the hook.
So does my Timekeeper.
New Silvertech does not, so it isn't just when it was made.
-
Nice feature. Shame my Swisschamp doesn't have one. I suppose it's got a blade file already.

Yeah I don't see it as a necessity on the Swisschamp.

My timekeeper is sans file as well...bummer.
