Glad you're enjoying it. From the pics it looks to be a bit out of its target element. Be interested to see how it performs.I should be on the trail in a few weeks. I'll try and get some "in the target element" pics if I can.

My thoughts exactly. I'm not expecting it to really excel in the day to day; I have my other LMs for that... though if it surprises me and holds up, it may make it to my EDC occasionally. I usually hike with my Skele CX because it's light and very capable but there are a couple tools on the Signal that I'd like to have had on a couple hikes but certainly didn't want the weight of my Wave. I know the Signal is a good bit heavier than the Skele but I'm willing to give it a shot and see what happens on the trail.

That seems a more sensible price :)yeah couldn't pass it up.
That's definitely a good sign that the price is coming down. If the distributors are getting it cheaper then maybe Leathermans sales aren't meeting projections and they are listening to the noise.....don't know, but I'm glad you got a good deal.im glad to see it as well. I don't think a ferro rod w a whistle, a micro file and a pommel warrant it costing so much more than a Wave.

My opinion of it is obviously not very high. However, my perspective comes as a hard use tradesman and it's an epic fail in this department but I realize it's a niche tool and I've seen little analysis of its functionality as a bush tool. I'll be interested to see some observation of practical use.

Sak's rule !
The price for the Signal has been $72.40 from the first day it appeared in inventory at CS,until it was raised to $74.80 just recently.agreed. The price hike is simply for the tool with a nylon sheath.
I don't understand why anyone would want to pay full retail price for any tool,SAk or Leatherman.
You don't have to leave your house, deal with traffic, waste time and gas and pay sales tax if you buy from dealers such as CS.

Got my Signal today... and two Tootsie Pops rolls out of the envelope :woohoo: Thank you Cutlery Shoppe :tu:
Order placed Friday night and got it on Monday. Great job Cutlery Shoppe! Had to time my lunch hour so I could intercept it at the mail box.... totally worth it. Looks very nice. Very compact to what I imagined it would be. Feels very light too, just a little bit heavier than the Juice KF4 I was carrying.
I noticed that it was partially open and thought that the pivots might need tightening. Played with it and thought it was a good thing because I do not need to break it in and then thought it sucks because it will just flop open when carrying it. That's when I noticed the slider lock... a nice touch in my opinion.
Well, I got to wait 2 more weeks for the Juice challenge to end. Till then I will just have to refrain my self to touch but not play. :wait:
While you've got those two to hand, could I make a pic request please? :salute: any chance of a pic of the KF4 alongside the handle with the caribiner, to compare the length of the Juice with the length of the handle before the clip starts (hope that makes sense)
Congrats , Rishardh . I hope you enjoy your new gear.

After playing with it around our country retreat,I came to the conclusion that it would make a wonderful tool for the younger generation. When I arrived home I ordered six more for our grandkids. This tool will be their first multi-tool.
Exactly this as it relates to carrying a SAK with it. It's perfect for that. I certainly wouldn't carry the Signal as a standalone item though for sure.AgreedAgreed on best looking MT !

In a pinch the crap would work, would I take it as back up, not on your life. That's why I took mine off. The tool is bare bones but that is what I like about it. I like to carry an SAK so not much duplicates.

Happy to be checking in as part of this club, I gotta feeling my Signal will be around for a while. I do need a new ferro rod though, mine is about used up after a few fires. Probably need more practice with it.Nice pic
The ferro rod can be popped out and rotated to a fresh surface, unless you've done so already.

I'm a huge Leatherman fan and have a ton of there tools. I got to handle a Signal today. It was built decent, but I just don't see me using an inch long Ferro rod or sharpener. Just not functional. The whistle looked questionable as well.

Yeah rishardh...ordered my Signal on a Monday and got in the mail on Wednesday (along with the candy--those folks at Cutlery Shoppe have the best price on the Signal and they are nice to deal with)...it is a very cool multitool for EDC... :multi:
One of my tools I haven't actually used that much. The set just seems lacking. I still like it but I guess its waiting more serious usage.
It still might be one of the looking MTs ever made and I love the lock that keeps it shut.

I was working with my Signal pliers and dropped it on concrete. It bent the lock so that I had to do some surgery to get it to lock again. It
is actually a potential weak point on the tool as it turns out.
I dropped it with the awl open and it bent the awl, the lock was fine though. ;) :D

Welcome to the club Pete
Yea, welcome mate. Thanks all, Ive actually had it for about a month or so and just have not posted it here. Overall I would say it is pretty good. Not worth 100 dollars to me, but I got it NIB for 75. When I first got it it was covered in dust (probably sitting in the cardboard box on the shelves for so long), so I cleaned it up and oiled it and it was still a little rough, but it has broken in somewhat now and is much better. The sharpener and fire steel/whistle aren't the best at all, but better than nothing if you weren't planning on being stranded. I would have liked to see a pair of scissors somewhere but its no big deal to carry a classic. The fact that you cant close the tool all the way to use the bit driver kind of sucks, but it would be OK in a pinch or if you prefer to screw with the tool open. I would have honestly liked to have seen either a fully serrated blade or a fully plain blade, but some people only carry one knife/tool, so again, both sides of the combination edge work when you need them to. Pliers and saw are great of course. Tool is very carry able, surprisingly so actually. It has an awl, which is awlsome! And one way to get around the bit driver issues is to just use the hex head if you carry standard bits. I think the hammer was a nice edition. Yeah you could just use a rock, but if you are going to put a carabiner why not put the extra space to use?
What are your initial thoughts on the tool? I think it is a cool tool and pretty underrated.
Cheers
Pete
Thanks for the thoughts on it gdoolittle  I am seeing a pattern of similar likes and dislikes throughout most of what people say about this tool and I guess for what it is (technically a scaled up Skeletool) then it probably excels but if you look at it as a scaled down Wave then it may not shine as much  I do :like: the idea of this tool and will probably get one, especially if I can get one in my price range ;) :like:Looked back at that and wow my grammar was rough  thats what happens when you use your phone's keyboard so much. Poncho you've been talking about wanting one for a while. My plan if I didn't like the tool when I got it was to offer to sell it to you! Turns out I like it a lot more than I expected. I will keep my eye out for good prices around here though and let you know if I see one on sale!

Overall, I like it more than I thought I would and would and do carry it outdoors, but there are a lot of compromises that might just be deal-breakers for some folks.
The Wave scissors was just a test. I have not finished it yet.
And yes, SAK scissors will be superior to the Wave one, but I prefer to keep to one marque when I do the mods. ;)

G'Day,Same here. I was surprised that the dye had no effect on mine.
Mine is still same colour as when I got it. It did not even change colour when I chucked it in some black RIT dye. I use mine daily too for cutting lunch stuff.
Cheers,
Pete
How does the Signal Compare to the MUT and the Skeletool.
I own both but not a Signal.
Thank you for the comparison pictures.
Maybe I could find a Black Friday deal on a Signal..... :D
Yes the comparison pics were great for me as well :cheers:Yeah, Colt did it I believe.
Question, I know it has been talked about but would a PE Wave blade work in the Signal

Is the S30V a better choice than the 154CM?
Cheers,
Pete
Leatherman website say 6 times better 440 , three time beter then 154 cm .. I dont know about that
I got in and out of this club within a week :salute: I bought a used Signal, just to check it out. I liked its weight, frame, and somewhat minimalist approach. What I did not like were the removable plastic parts. Clumsy and not intuitive to use. It was changed hand late last week. So I am Signal-less again :PThe little plastic bits are the only things on the Signal I have not used. The file did a nail a while ago, but that is about it. I would love to have a plastic bit container that fits in where the ferro rod is. Maybe carry an additional two bits. And since it is removable a plastic mould can possibly be made... I am going to check on this with the ferro rod out.
I think that with the bit is a better use than the whistle anyways :tu: :like:
That Ferro Rod slot
That Ferro Rod slot
I think so too. If I take some off the sides it might fit in flat and have enough plastic for a type of retaining clip(s). One might even be able to keep the whistle functioning then, I will have a look during the week.
Pete
Long bit drive on pocket clip would be awesome..
Hi guys! I have some questions, and i hope this is the right place to ask. I have a Surge, and i absolutely love it...but, you know...summer is coming, and the surge is too big and bulky and heavy to been carried in a pair of shorts...so, since that was my b-day few days ago, i'm thinking at the Signal like a self-present for me (hell, i deserve it!)...my question is this: if i buy the signal, could i swap the bottle opener and the saw of the signal with the big flathead and the t-shank of the Surge? With this mod the Signal could be the perfect multitool...hope you can help me...😁

Mmmm... i understand.... i saw a signal on youtube with the scissors (from a wingman) so i hoped to do something like that with the t-shank... now i am a sad man.... ☹:multi:

Has anyone thought of combining the scales of a regular signal with the coyote tan signal to create a pure black version? Just curious... :-\
It's still a great multitool...Absolutely... but i'm afraid i'll miss one or two tools from the surge, and i think that i could not find useful the sharpener and the ferrorod of the Signal... mmm...could i swap this two tool with something else? I want to creare the perfect multitool for my needs....

Imagine if it was the body that had the contour lines on it instead... :dd:
An option of File over Saw would be neat. Heck I'm all about the blade exchanger so maybe work that into the tool LM :pok:. The tool would also benefit from a PE blade. I understand the thought behind a combo edge but LM :pok: 99.99% of all bush crafters buy PE knives as do survivalist, just saying.I'm sure 99.99% of bushcrafters would prefer a saw over a file too.... just saying... :pok: ;)

So, the Wave blades drop in the Signal?
I just wished they would give us all of the above as options :dd: :like: :D
They put a 154CM blade in the Skeletool RX painted it orange and changed a premium. Oh and they added a glass breaker bit. I think the Signal also deserved a "nicer" blade steel. I know the issue with sharpening does come up but my thought was those who buy this tool have some "experience". I'm reaching, I know.
So, the Wave blades drop in the Signal?
It depends...
The Saw and File are interchangeable without any issues. The blade fits pivot wise, but is about 1mm thinner than the Signal blade. It fits, but I found that one has to tighten the pivot screw quite well to stop any wobble. I added two additional brass washers from a MUT and that sorted the pivot issues out. What it does not solve it the blade rubbing against the awl. The Signal blade has an offset bevel to accommodate the awl. I found the Wave blade as well as the Texas Tool Crafter Damascus blade rubbing against the awl when closing. I tried putting all the washers on the inside to space the blade out as far as possible but that did not really help either. I think that with the washers and possibly sanding a small bit off the awl, it should fit. I have not tried that... yet.
Cheers,
Pete
Here's where I stand on the Signal ...Hey buddy.....
When I first saw it I liked the looks of it, but thought my Wave/Charge or Spirit could kick its *ss when it came to functionality.
Then this topic appeared, and more and more MTO'ers started buying and using the Signal for EDC.
Then there was a giveaway last month where you could win a Signal, and this got me thinking about the Signal again.
After I didn't win the giveaway Signal () I checked the local outdoorstore and noticed that the Signal had gone down in price (still more expensive than in the U.S., but at least it's about the same price as a Wave now ::)).
So I started looking at youtube reviews of the Signal (again ::)), searched this place and found this topic (again ::)), looked at the pics here (yes Zoidberg, your pics ... :twak:).
And ...
Now I want a Signal .
So once again I've been "tricked" into buying a tool thanks to a giveaway here and/or pics of a fellow MTO member, same thing happened to me with the Leatherman OHT, and with the Charge AL (after seeing daily Charge pics for a month during the Midlman Challenge) and probably a couple of other tools I don't recall at the moment ...
What can I say, "the flesh is weak" I suppose ...
Mine has the file ;)

But... don't the dark green and the topo paint jobs look cool?Oh yeah, they look awesome. Just not practical for it's (original) intended purpose.
Chrono, I've played with the TTC blade. It’s ground wrong, rubs on the awl and is very soft. I wouldn't waste my money.

I like the mod you did Darrell :like: :tu:Thanks! I has to try out my new dremmel i got for Christmas. Lol. It feels better clipped to my pocket and makes the screwdriver able to be used while the handles are closed. I really like the mod but I will leave the new one intact. Plan on adding to the new one, not taking away.
Latest addition.... Blade exchanger. I just realized looking at the picture, i think it chose its new name.. Man signal. Haha.
Congrats alexanderre :tu: :like:Thanks Poncho
A very simple hack for the signal that really makes it function as 1/4inch hex driver.Good idea HG! :tu:
Noticed a rather weird flaw on my brand new Signal today :(
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190717/873859c5cfcfcf8219269ea38d3ee46c.jpg)
Has anyone else seen anything similar?
Even more disappointing- the liner lock on the saw didn’t work at all though engaged and looked just fine, so I got the tool replaced at the store and now have a seemingly flawless one
Good to hear you got a good one the second time :tu:
Just to be sure, the flaw on the first one, was it the "casting line" in the bitholder? That looked a little weird indeed, don't know if something like that would create a weak spot, but I wouldn't feel comfortable about that either, so exchanging the tool was the best thing to do in my opinion ;).
Good idea HG! :tu:
And is that a compass on your watch strap?
Can’t really say what was the cause of it, but I could actually live with it (at least I tried), but a totally malfunctioning liner lock on a saw made me act decisively The new one has a bit stiff to open knife and pliers but I’m sure it’ll get better over time
So yesterday I wanted to show my lady how the new Signal I got as a replacement works just fine and the liner lock on a saw would withstand the pressure and the moment I tried to show it it collapsed just like the previous one
But I checked it at the store like 5 times for sure applying really significant amounts of pressure and it did just great... Then I realized that probably the problem is called "Ballistol", which I applied to both tools the moment I brought them home :D And the cool thing is that there is really no easy way to clean it there, so I guess I'll just have to give it a few days to completely dry out...
Conclusion: beware of using Ballistol with liner locks :multi:
Goog to know, but honestly when are u ever going to put a lot of pressure on the back of a saw? The blade would be concerning. But I'd be ok using the saw even without a lock
So guys, has any of you been using your Signal on some hiking trips for at least 4-5 days in a row? Was it handy? Did you use it much?
And my main question- how did it stand up to moisture? Did you lube it with anything?
You make a good point about the fire steel. I think you would still need to oil the steel with prolonged exposure based on what happened to my wave. The black oxide one would be much more corrosion resistant. The victorinox steel holds up way better in constant wetness. I have never had an issue however with an s30V blade.
Could you please tell me more about your Wave?
I took my wave camping and got a number of rust spots, was easy to remove with just a little lubricant and a rag..but it still urks me. Honestly I prefer the signal more as an EDC than as a camping tool. For woods, especially wet woods, I prefer the Victorinox Spirit or a BO ST300. I like the removable items on the signal, but they are 100% backup and don’t help with tasks on a day to day as much. Surprisingly, I’ve found the whistle and the other components of the Signal to make a very ideal EDC, but I think they completely missed the mark on a “camping” multitool, it is more of a “survival” MT. The blade is completely awesome! Super robust, but should have been plain edge for wood work. It has a great tool set for an OH smurf! moment however, I’d always rather have a tool that has no removable components so that I am less likely to lose things in the woods. I think ones you try a BO ST300 (not rebar because of the thin blades) you will see what I mean. I am eyeing the red and black Signal so maybe my opinions will change...I dont know.
I carry the signal nearly every day (although mine is heavily modded). I just rather have something more heft as a dedicated woodmans tool.
Oh, I see your point. Well, I have a Vic Forester I bought specifically for camping and hiking and it did amazing job there really, but it has no pliers and sometimes those are great for taking a pan off the fire. I’ll take both Vic Forester and LM Signal soon on a hike and will share my thoughts on them being used

I recently learned about the Signal and been looking for some opinions, especially on the usefulness of the more unique aspects (ferro, hammer, sharpener, whistle). Your comment was very helpful.
Very nice Ivo. :like: I hope you enjoy your new Signal.

Found today to my surprise that a ferro rod on my Signal has cracked. Still works, but I feel kinda unsure of its reliability more and more... No idea how and why that happened, I know I can buy a replacement, the whistle is perfectly fine and so on.... Has any of you guys seen anything like that happening to your Signals?
Bad luck, alex :-\ at least a replacement can be bought but how much actual use did your ferro rod get  I know you use it some but how much :salute:Exactly, I used it only two times in order to just try if it works and is usable at all...
I think you illustrated exactly why I feel the ferro rod attachment is best left completely as a worst case option. But I'd talk to leatherman about it.
Cheers

Glad you're liking your new multi.
Has anyone else had issues with the lock slipping? I bumped the spine of mine on a cabinet and the lock released. Doesn’t take much pressure at all. Tried it on two other Signals with the same result.

I was at my buddies house a few days ago. Long story short: we were draining some rain water out of a boat. It gets cold enough to freeze during the nights so there was ice floating in his boat. Funny, I think the signal had it's best use as an EDC tool imo. In the woods ST300 all the way.
Great pics Ivo and King_Gorilla.They made one in Robins Egg blue?
I think the Signal is the one Leatherman that just keeps tempting me, but I haven’t tried yet. If I could find a Robins Egg blue on a good sale, that might convince me.

That’s an nice mod!
What mods would the ST300 need to make it better for the woods?
None really needed in my opinion unless you had to have a pair of scissors.
Thanks guys!Don’t forget about the pocket clip - add a few millimeters as well, though give much more usage comport at the same time

Btw guys how do you sharpen your Signal blades? It has uneven bevels and has serrations too - every time I look at it and thinking of using the blade I change my mind because I’m not quite sure how to maintain it right
Thanks for the hints, gents
I do like the tool overall, do like the strong thick blade, the tent pole hammer and ability to take a pan off the fire with pliers, but man do I hate the combo blade
You have, what I think, is the nicest colour of the lot.The color is the one that has been holding my eye for about a year, before I finally broke down and purchased it.

I liked the tool so much that the Topo, which I think is also great looking, followed close behind.
:iagree:I like the topo for more than just blade. I also like the subtle green/black combo. If I could get a spare topo blade, I would gladly put it on the blue one.

:oAgree. I like that green color but all of them I’ve seen are darker green.
The green seems brighter, must be the light?
Thanks kindly.Nice selection. I have two also (Topo and Aqua), but the gray is really calling to me.
A day later and I have two in my possession. The second was an eBay purchase and ~80 USD so a pretty good deal. Came boxed and essentially brand new. Not my favorite color but I do like the tool quite a bit. As mentioned may end up with a third, but trying not to emulate @chako too much here.
The Aqua is my favorite colour. Happy to see you have one.The Aqua is really cool. In some pictures I saw it looked darker, almost turquoise, which I was hoping it was, but I still love it.

Thats a terrific picture.
How’s the handle splay with the Signal?I understand what you mean. Before trying, because of the similarities with the Skeletool, I was afraid the splay would be too wide. It is wider than the Rebar but still narrow enough for my medium size hands.
I’m kinda used to “smaller” tools like the Rebar so I’m not sure if I can still have a workable grip on tools with wide splay (ie experience with Wingman/Sidekick).

I have to admit that I didn’t expect the Signal to be “Rebar-size”. I always thought it was bigger due to the price tag. (1 Signal outside its base color can cost as much as 2 Rebars with leather sheath here)
Sweet pic !
Yellow accessories? I thought the coyote version had black?

You guys and your Signal porn. I would have been stuck in analysis paralysis forever, except for two things. First, my wife green lighted the purchase because my birthday is coming up :nanadance: But the choices...Topo, Coyote, stainless and blue... Then I got a BassPro 10% email, used my points, and I could pick it up at the store!!! Decision made., and that calls for a double :nanadance: :nanadance:

Are tree stabbing pics frowned on or outright not allowed here? Thought will check before I post.

Yes sir :salute: Busy busy these days, just took a few quick snaps.
My thoughts on the Signal:
Although it's a combo blade I do like the beefed-up thickness (good for outdoor chores). I can produce feather sticks with it without a problem.
The interlocking handles are a good idea making it a very solid handle unit when the knife or saw is used.
I find the whistle loud and clear too.
I did not try out the fire steel yet though.
Oh, and there's a clip and a carabiner to secure it on your gear or pocket etc. :tu:
It seems a good, sensible and solid outdoor package to me.
The awl could have a little more bite maybe.
Overall I love it :2tu:

My thoughts on the Signal:Your thoughts pretty much mirror mine. I would like to see a dedicated lanyard attachment point, though. And though I haven't tried the ferro rod either, I'd use it as a backup for a much larger one.

You could use the hole in the pocket clip...Why didn't I think of that? I'll pull the Signal out and try to pass some 550 through that hole. Thanks for the idea!

Some very nice pics, Stitchy  thanks for those :salute: :like: :like:

Thanks, Poncho; I can still cut using the regular cutters but nothing like coathangers; no worries though as replacements are on the way!
I don't believe they have been for a long while
i thought the 154cm were more likely to chip?
:dd: so nice :o :ahhh :like:
Went on a hike today exploring a new area.

Well, here's the CT Signal, almost as good as new ( If I could only touch up the oxide coating ...). Also the cutter on the left is the chipped one ( reminds me of the Gerber's). [ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ] [ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ]Those Gerber triangles are the worst! they cost like $20 and when they break they shatter and you rarely get to use all 3 sides first

The land of mist and magic. Looks like a beautiful hike!
I hope the wire cutter chipping is not becoming a new feature on Leathernans :-\
Naaaah, I'm sure its not; probably more of "user error" than manufacturing.

Hey guys, Question. About to modify my signal to add scissors, but also want to add a scalpel. Has anyone tried purchasing the Countycomm scalpel and disassembling with intent to add it to your signal? Thoughts? https://countycomm.com/products/carbon-fiber-folding-craft-scalpel-knife
I'm thinking of getting yellow whistle + ferro and diamond file, and dye them orange, that would look cool on the coyote/tan colour... I've read the Ferro can be "popped" out, but I feel I'll break it ???
I may have slipped.

Can anyone help. I’m thinking of buying a Signal but I’ve noticed that in some of your pictures the the black oxide coating is starting to come off in the pliers or blades.
For those of you with the black tooled versions have you experienced any issues with this?
You will have to make peace with the way black oxide wears if you want to buy black oxide tools :salute: some of the plier heads rub and some don't  black oxide will wear off some no matter what on a tool but they gain character as they are used and age  once you get past that (some never do) then you won't see it as a bad thing :D :tu:
Thanks for the replies. It’s not the general wear that bothers me it’s the scraping patterns the tools make. I think I’ll go with one without black oxide on.
Chess for that. I have some Leathermans already but none with black oxide. I fully appreciate and expect some wear in places. I think I’ll stick with just steel ones. A colbalt blue Signal is now top of my wish list.
Nice one; love the color, and it's not seen often! Do post pictures of it when you get it... :tu: :like:

Excellent pic, David :woohoo: :like: :like:Thanks, Poncho. I'm pretty sure my mods voided the warranty. I'll pull the trigger on eBay if someone sells it at a reasonable price.
Gotter, I hope you can find a replacement screw but you may have to either send it in for warranty or try and buy a replacement on ebay :dunno:
Found these as a set; hope it helps: https://www.ebay.com/itm/186301203754?itmmeta=01HRK8Z4FZ7Q863EV79NMCEMSN&hash=item2b606ac52a:g:zLsAAOSwwb9isMAH&itmprp=enc%3AAQAIAAAAwKukewrjUrLQtN2e5bCfWitcd0AXS54SQQarPUuY4FeWu2aWhdKKunK7df%2FfELs9oNtgrnKycBiKS7yF05SRbz%2BAo5J5F%2Bnolicbtkl2tltrSY2Y2T4VjnWULBdp8DMftjiDRDNn6DcNouulFQFzFm8jyRXc2DCcZFIDvfVbhZdaH3xFTPuhWWQpo84OC2q5caucmt%2B7CNoTVGqTmBoGPH4kEzhval%2Bv3I9s9P4ho1mGS%2BQOVwwXRLL0roje5ubspA%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR4TI_OjEYwThanks, Juan.
