ALL knives are interesting(to me anyway) but I have no objections to KA-BAR. Got a lot of them from all different era.

Nice ones Dunc. I’m all for a Kabar owner club. I take it you mean Kabar the brand not the style generically referred to as a Kabar.
Here’s one of mine named to a serviceman, Navy I think, Swartz 212-88-93.
It has been modified at some point by changing the sabre grind to hollow and reducing the width of the guard.

Thats a lovely knife sak60

Here is one I found awhile back for the grand sum of $5. It looked a bit grim with what looked like rust all over it.It turned out to be hardened cosmolene(the grease like preservative that military weapons are packaged in)and proved to be reasonably easy to remove. When the sheath was cleaned up I noticed that the owner(J.P.Jones)had ink stamped his name onto the front and rear of the sheath. I didn't see a service number so it may not have been a military issue but rather a postwar acquisition. The next post will show it cleaned.
-
Here is the KA-BAR cleaned and ready for use as well as another one I bought some time ago. This one had a hole drilled in the handle just in front of the pommel;likely so a lanyard could be attached. This one I believe is WWII era. Also a modern KA-BAR replica.
-
Some more(Samoa):
#1Kabar scout utility.
#2 Folding hunter from the KA-BAR collector's club 1990
#3Three knives stamped Cleveland Ohio made in Hong Kong.
#4 Small fixed blade makred KA-BAR and Union Cutlery Co.
As an aside:KA-BAR changed their stamping to this( Kabar)around 1951 which helps date some of the knives. The all capitals stamp(KA-BAR)was later used on some of the collector club and other specials.
-
Mo' KA-BARS:
#1 An unusual floating knife made with blade machined out in the middle.
#2 A folding hunter with jigged bone handles.
#3 A 2 blade folding hunter with genuine stag handles.
#4 a 2 blade folding hunter that originally had celluloid handles that out-gassed.I made new ones from black plexiglass and jigged them with a Dremel moto-tool.
-
Still Mo':
#1 A 1977 reproduction of an early Dogs Head folding hunter.
#2 A 1970's era folding hunter with the slant logo and synthetic bone handles.
#3 A real 1920's era Dogs Head folding hunter with folding guard that locks the blade open.
#4 a 1920's era Hobo knife and fork combination that slides apart.
-
Mo' and mo':
#1 A group of three different sized fish knives.
#2 An early Union Cutlery Co.tickler with jigged bone handles and steel liners and bolsters.
#3 Another Union Cutlery knife with thistle shaped handle and advertising Dardevle(hope I spelled it right) fishing lures.
#4 A very early knife/ax combination marked Keenwell;an early KA-BAR stamping.
-
These pictures are the ones that were SUPPOSED to be posted with the above posts.I tried editing them but it wouldn't work.
A KA-BAR Union Cutlery Co. fixed blade.
A Union Cutlery Co. thistle handled fixed blade.
Also included is a KA-BAR woodcraft style fixed blade and a view of the Hobo knife disassembled.
-
Da last ones:
An early KA-BAR jack knife with a spear point blade.
Two knives made for L.L.Bean Co. of Freeport Maine;an outfitter.
Two KA-BAR rigger's knives.
A stag handled pen knife.

The only Ka-Bar in my collection is this backlock folder. I bought this one new somewhere in the 20th century, it´s seen lots of use.

My newest Kabar: Got it at a yard sale the other day in kind of sad shape. Although the stainless steel blades were flawless, the back spring(which was made of carbon steel)was corroded from the celluloid handles out-gassing.The nickel silver bolsters were a brownish-black color from it as well. Figured I could re-handle it and save a nice little knife;and the $5 price tag was OK too.
The model is Kabar's T-75 which featured a clip master blade and a scaler/hook disgorger secondary blade. They came with yellow celluloid handles which normally aren't known for deteriorating but as always there is an exception to the rule. This is the smallest of three similar knives;the T-29 being the intermediate size and the T-49 the largest. I'm not quite sure how they come to these designations but that is what they are.
When I got it home the first thing I did was strip off the old handles which crystallized in my hands.Upon inspecting the knife I found that the mark side brass liner had a crack running from the center rivet almost all the way across as a result of the out-gassing. When the celluloid degrades,it attacks the carbon steel and the brass viciously but leaves stainless untouched. What is insidious about it is it can work under the surface without being noticed on the outside.I had one knife do that and it ate through both liners and cracked in half when I went to operate the back lock.
Anyway after a thorough cleaning with Mother's Mag Wheel Polish and some light sanding I got some Plexiglass I had left over from a sign job and made patterns from the old handles. I drilled a hole in each for the center rivet(the others had broken when I removed the handles)using a hand drill so as not to crack it and cut the pieces to length to fit between the bolsters. As I was going to epoxy the handles on I only needed the center rivet to index them properly.
Using my 1x30 belt sander I rough sized the edges and finished them off with a couple of different files and then sandpaper. I then filed the contours to get them flush with the bolsters and finished them off with 320 grit wet-or-dry sandpaper first dry and then wet for the final finish before polishing. Polishing was then done with Mother's Mag Wheel Polish. I was going to cut into the mark side handle to fit the small hook sharpening stone that was in the original handle but decided to wait on that.
And so is finished my refurbished fish knife. It makes a nice addition to my accumulation as it has the late style stamp whereas my others have the early all-capitals stamp. Here are pics of the before and after and of my other KA-BAR fish knives to show the various sizes.

And here it is with it's new handles and a pic of it's bigger brothers.

Nice find!!
I've had it forever. My father had it forever. I don't know where he got it from, either from his father, who was I think was a navy pilot in WWII, or god knows where. I'm 41, and I can remember this knife in the big safe downstairs since I was a child.

Thought I’d post my latest collection pic , what are your thoughts on the new USSF range , I guess it all depends if you like the colour. I think from a collection point of view they are important and a bit fun at the same time considering it was born out of an April Fools joke.
