Inspired by John's (Gadget Guy) "My buddy Chigger" thread, I thought I'd start a thread about my beloved GasBaby and show just how useful these things are.
Before owning my Atwood GasBaby, I had the flat GasBaby which I loved the shape and design of but wanted it's thicker brother. Thanks to John I now have the thicker version and I simply love it and it goes with me everywhere and is useful in more situations than I think people realise.
Just to show how useful this tool is, I will write up every day for the next month just what it has been used for that day and at the end of the month, compile a list of hopefully original and odd ways of using this cracking tool.
I have used it every day I have owned it so far, so lets see if it continues to earn it's keep.

Look forward to the updates mate :tu:

Well it looks like I should just PM you instead. :D

I'll just PM you then, to save the aggro. :D

DAY 1
Well today is my first official test day and as suspected, my GasBaby proved to be as handy as always.
First task today was a loose latch on my garden gate which just needed a tighten with a flat headed screwdriver. Out popped the GasBaby and in seconds the job was done. Due to the taper of the driver, it fits many flat headed screws very nicely.
Later I went to open a can of drink (Pepsi for those who are interested :D) and as I bite my nails :-\ I couldn't get underneath the ring pull to lift it. Out came the Gasbaby and the pry bar quickly popped the ring pull for me.
So, on day one we have;
1. Screw driver (pretty obvious one really)
2. Ring pull lifter.
Stay tuned (Mike :D) for tomorrows update. :tu:

Well to be fair, there wasn't a great deal to comment on until now was there, you sarccy git ;)

Mine is a little unusual becasue it has 4 holes instead of the usual 3 hole.

Well as it's clear some here just can't wait ::) :D, here's this evenings update.
DAY 2
As you will all know by now (Mike did his usual when promoting something :D) my wife and I have just had our third child. With kids of this age, it's amazing just how many items of clothing you can go through, so here's me pulling of a clothes tag with my Gasbaby;
Usually I would have just ripped it off, but the wife was getting annoyed with all the stretched holes in things. :D
So we now have;
1. Screwdriver
2. Ring pull lifter
3. Removing clothing tags.
Stay tuned for tomorrows update, which will happen LATE evening. :D
-
Cliffhanger... ;) :cheers:
-
I'm waiting for:
Used to scrape up after major blowout. :ahhh

And it's my job to promote stuff >:(

I know you are all just dying to hear my next update, so here it is.
DAY 3
As I now have three young children, I also now have 3 car seats which all line up in the back of my car. When taking my daughter to playschool today I realised that the seat belt clip that she needed was tucked down out of reach in a small gap that I couldn't reach. So, by holding onto the prybar, I used the bottle opener section as a hook and although it was quite tight, I managed to get it out as the GasBaby hooked in really well. So, that's another use to add to the list;
1. Screwdriver
2. Ring pull lifter
3. Removing clothing tags.
4. Hook
More exciting updates tomorrow! :D
-
Man alive, your life's one long roller coaster ride :o :D

Have you used it on Ozzie's chug nut's yet, or are they still too soft to really need that kinda torque to shift ??? :D

I think a towel would be the best job for that ATM. :D
Might be for the best :-\
Mind you, you could test the tool's corrosion resistance by sticking it in the dishwasher afterwards :D
-
DAY 4
Yep, here we are at day 4 with more exciting updates! :D
Today the GasBaby earnt it's keep in 2 scenarios. Firstly when out and about today, the corners of the prybar were used to cut into one of the many clothes packets that I have for Ozzie (you can tell what my life is consumed by ATM ::)) and later on, after doing a bit of work in the garden, the same part was used to dig cack out of my nails :D. Thought about taking a pic of that one, but decided it was a bit grosse. :D
So that's 2 more uses to add to the list;
1. Screwdriver
2. Ring pull lifter
3. Removing clothing tags.
4. Hook
5. Opening packets
6. Cleaning nails.

Talk about living on the edge... :o :o

Tomorrow evening just can't come soon enough :ahhh :P

I'm not actually sure why I am continuing with this test. :think: But hey, I have nothing better to do I suppose. :D

Joking aside, it is quite a useful test, and may win some folks over to the single piece tool faith :)

Hopefully. :tu:

Christ. The day any of us start to question why we do these things - this forum's doomed I tells ya :ahhh
So, let's not go there - eh? ;)
Edited for atrtro attrou attrocius bad spelling.

Fair point. :D
Move along please guys, nothing to see here :police:

Duty man! Tool reports are a sacred part of this forum! The dearth of long term reports is appalling! You can set an example for us all... :salute:

Yeah, we expect nothing less than the "Neverending Story" from you, Benner.. ;)

DAY 5
This evening I have probably used the GasBaby in the best way possible....
Another obvious one, but one that certainly needs adding to the list! :D
1. Screwdriver
2. Ring pull lifter
3. Removing clothing tags.
4. Hook
5. Opening packets
6. Cleaning nails.
7. Bottle opener.

I believe it's a tradition to "wet the baby's head" Ben. Sue will understand that you can't ignore history - it wouldn't be right. ;)
-
Not usually done on your own, in your own house whilst looking at your computer and playing with knives and tools though is it. :D
-
We all have to adapt to the times buddy.
-
DAY 6
Today has seen yet more GasBaby use. Apart from opening the beer I am currently half way through, it also helped me this morning to sort out my flooring. The lino in our front room had come adrift in one of the corners and needed to be tucked back in under the skirting board. Out come GasBaby and by using the prybar as a poker, the job was done in seconds. Can't think of how to word that, so poker (pokey stick? :pok:) will have to do. :D
1. Screwdriver
2. Ring pull lifter
3. Removing clothing tags.

DAY 7
Today I used my GasBaby to help me rob bits off of my wife's old laptop keyboard to repair my own. It was a fiddly job,but the GasBaby easily popped off each key without breaking anything.
1. Screwdriver
2. Ring pull lifter
3. Removing clothing tags.

-
Thanks for the update.. :)
-
I hope your gonna clean the key's first ::)
Nice bit of recycling mate :tu:
-
It had been kept in my dusty loft for a few months. :D
-
DAY 8
Today the GasBaby helped me change some batteries on the kids toys that were drastically overdue. Not only was the screwdriver handy here, but I found that with some of the batteries (AAA inparticular) they were in so tight and in such a small hole that they needed something to pop them out. The prybar section worked really well for this.
So that's another (if not boring) use;
1. Screwdriver
2. Ring pull lifter
3. Removing clothing tags.
4. Hook
5. Opening packets
6. Cleaning nails.
7. Bottle opener.
8. Poker
9. Removing keyboard keys
10. Levering out batteries.

Not boring at all, Mate :tu:
But a pic or two would spice things up, though.. ;) :pok: :pok:

It's a shame I didn't have one in my last job as some remote controls were a real pain to get batteries out of.

I was en route! :D
DAY 9
Today I actually got to use the GasBaby for it's main use - a pry bar! The wife bought one of these fancy bins a few months ago that you press the lid down on and it pops up. Well the catch broke today to the lid was stuck up all the time and I'm telling ya, with 2 kids in nappies that is not cool. :D So, as the catch was FUBAR, I used the pry bar on the GasBaby to pry out the springs that made it pop up. So now we have a "normal" bin. :D
That's another one for the list though... (sorry, no pics again AHB :D)
1. Screwdriver

You are very excused today, But there must be some kind of action pic tomorrow... :pok: :D
[EDIT] GasBaby kinda makes sense now.. [/EDIT] :D :D

DAY 10
Today I had the fun task of putting up a new blind at our back door. We ordered the blind online and it arrived today in a large cardboard tube which had the cap stapled on. Out came the GasBaby which quickly pulled out all the staples;

If you mean the Artifact blades - my missus does - loads.
Excellent for the craft projects she does with the kids that she child-minds. She does have the "proper" craft knives - but you can't fold them up and put them in your pocket, safe from little hands.
You never thought of that did you? ;)

No I did, but I hate using that style of blade as I just don't consider them safe to use :-\

I use that type of blade all the time for removing labels from packages, then I stoop a little lower and reuse the packaging :D

What about a Polar Bear?
Well, if there are no zombies at hand....
sure. Reasonable substitute. Both are dangerous. One eats brains, the other does too, among other things... :ahhh
-
DAY 11
Well after all this talk about zombies and Polar bears, this sounds a bit pathetic. :D
Today I had to scrape some glue like substance out of the bottom of one of my drawers (it actually came out of a stress relief boob but lets not go there :D) so I used the prybar to remove it all. Worked well and as it wasn't sharp, it didn't scratch anything.

Oh well, this thread can't always be as exiting as Day 9... ;) :D

DAY 12
Today has actually seen quite a bit of GasBaby use. Apart from the beer I just opened :drink:, it also acted as a scraper again today to remove something sticky off of my kitchen hob and to get cack out of my nails after clearing out the Salons wheel arches. Sadly though, I have no new use to add to my list. :( To make up for it though, here is a pic for AHB of me removing cack from my nails :D

DAY 13
On top of looking after the 3 kids and the wife for the last 2 weeks, I have been doing a lot of sorting/tidying around the house and today I shifted a few pictures and mirrors around. With this task came the need to pull out a few hooks and nails so the GasBaby was used as an effective nail puller.
No pics today AHB as I have been busy, but I stil have more to do so I will get some next time. :D

DAY 14
I'll keep this short as I have only just got in from my first day at work and I am knackered!
Today I used the GasBaby as a phillips screwdriver as where I worked had absolutely nothing else I could use. I used the corners of the prybar and although it wasn't great, it did do the job (although it was time consuming). No pics I am afraid as I was at work.

DAY 15
Today was a great GasBaby use day. At work, I had the pleasure of making loads of flat packed furniture so I used the GasBaby to break the tape of various boxes and also as a door wedge. :tu: Being in a care home, all the doors have closers on them and one of the cabinets was large and I needed more space and the GasBaby worked well at holding the door open for me. Again,no pics as pics at work is a big no no. :(

DAY 16
Well I hate to bring disappointment to all my viewers, but the only task the GasBaby had today was tightening one slotted screw. :( Have a bit to do tomorrow, so hopefully something more exciting will come then. :D

DAY 17
Today, because I am tight :D, I went around my house looking for hooks in the wall that weren't being used so I could nab them and use them elsewhere. :D The GasBaby worked well at getting the nails out. Not a new use I know, but I have a pic this time;

DAY 20
Today the GasBaby saw a lot of use. I used the flat screwdriver 3 or 4 times for various things, I used the prybar to pull out some batteries and I also just got to use the bottle opener again. :drink: :D I think the wife is even starting to see how useful it is.
I just wanted to clarify that this is a genuine test. I am not going around just looking for uses for the GasBaby, the list has been made up by real day to day things I have come across. :) I could find loads of uses if I went looking for them, but sadly my life isn't that interesting. :D
