Day 6

As a SAK fan, I can't say no to a multi with a corkscrew. MP400 CS is a good orange peeler.

Day 6: I’m back to the yellow Explorer today. I just love the new style magnifier too much to not use it.

Here’s a close-up of the striations on this fine example of a Lemurian quartz cluster. Legend says that these striations hold a secret language explaining the lost secrets of the universe.

The “blade” isn’t creating the image, a narrative is being constructed (by dishonest people, imo) and that is what creates the image.

I think Vic would be better served long term to try and educate why a knife, especially a SAK, is a tool and not a weapon. And if they want to have baseless models to meet demand, fine. Just not as an apparent capitulation to the crazies. They will never be satisfied anyway.
Well said.

I’m wondering if this isn’t simply the result of repeated sharpening.

 :iagree:
Does anybody wonder what happens behind the wood when using self drilling sheet metal screws.  I am re-purposing some 3/8” plywood from the interior of my cargo trailer.  Obviously it was held in place then self-drilling screws installed.
I did not want the metal debris that was embedded.  Explorer corkscrew to the rescue.  It made minimal invasion into the wood, but, easily and cleanly removed the metal debris.

That’s a good corkscrew use

To be clear, I do not have a problem with bladeless tools in their own right.

My disagreement is more nuanced. The issue is being framed such that a SAK is a weapon, and it appears that victorinox is responding within that narrative frame. This is the quote that concerned me: “In some markets, the blade creates an image of a weapon.“

I mean the brand new ones don’t usually have a mark. It’s only after the awl has been allowed to snap close that I’ve seen it. Though it’s possible I could’ve had a new one out of the box with the mark, I don’t usually check for it new. I currently have two BNIB 93mms, a pioneer and farmer and neither are marked. But all my used ones have developed one.

Every 93mm I’ve had from all eras have had this to one degree or another, unless they’re brand new out of the box. This is from early folded awl elinox +pat can opener era knives up through my EDC 2018 LE. Also includes the farmers I’ve had.
Not sure I understand Gustophermob, can you explain regards "unless"?

I get it's by design and won't necessarily harm the knife, it's just that's it's a "dirty fix" in my (odd) mind when if they'd simply extend the kick a half mm it would close and stop travel conventionally.

Pondering this made me wonder if this method was chosen for advantages over "conventional" and I can think of one. No matter how the awl wears (from use or sharpening) having it stop by hitting the scale would always ensure the point was never proud when closed.
Perhaps they're smarter than I credited them?

Well, as long as they don’t phase out the bladed models, I think some more bladeless options wouldn’t be a bad thing.  As of today, I think you’re basically stuck with the Jetsetter if you want a factory model sans blade.

day 6 bonus use :woohoo:

opened bag of meal worms for the Blue Bird feeder.   The tear line did not work as planned, the scissors of the Micra opened cleanly and trimmed the ragged tear.   [ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]

Mmmmm... another delicious snack
