Title: Found this little critter roaming my neighborhood today
Post by: Grant Lamontagne on June 01, 2007, 03:35:14 AM
I just thought I'd post some pics of this gorgeous little creature I found out front of my house today.  It's a '76 Midget in need of a little work, but nothing major.  While I prefer trucks for day to day driving and fun, I had a '74 Midget shortly after high school and I'll tell you these are some of the best damned cars on the road.  One of these days I'll get another one... pre '75's were the best... gotta love the old chrome bumpers!

The guy who owns it was actually the son of the lady who lived next door to me.  She passed away recently.  He had another '76 back in the late 70's/early 80's that was the same color.  He still has it but it's rotted away, as most cars do around here.  He had an old picture from back then with him standing next to the car, and he was there today to take another picture in the same place with the same (type) of car, and a more contemporary hairstyle!

Looked like the same shirt though! :P

I also saw a Cobra twice today... although I am certain it was a replica or kit car, but it was still pretty darned sweet.  Unfortunately no camera handy, so here's another shot of this old MG!

My wife's grandfather owned an MG dealership after the war.  It was either that or a VW dealership and he figured that no one here (or anywhere for that matter!) would buy a German car.  It seems kind of funny to think nowadays that there was a time when VW's, Porsches and Mercedes were considered to be terrible cars and no self respecting person would be caught dead in one!

Nowadays even the entry level VW's are in pretty high demand.  And, from a former VW owner, I'd buy another one in a second...

I guess no one here likes classic European sports cars?
