Title: SAKS and Books
Post by: israelpiper on May 23, 2018, 04:50:10 PM
Swiss Champ hangin' with Churchill.

For British WW2 buffs, the book on the far right was written by Chaim Weizmann, first ceremonial president of modern Israel, who had both a son and a nephew fly in the defense of Britain as fighter pilots in the RAF in WW2. His son was lost over the English channel, while his nephew eventually became Chief of the Israel Air Force, and, in his old age, president of his country like his uncle. Fitting to be shelved next to Churchill's classic. And just the right spot for such a classic Victorinox as the Swiss Champ--for me an almost perfect set of tools for tinkering and light bushcraft. And blessedly, no hook.

In keeping with the Camper Challenge theme, a title with a lighter note!

What's a best whittling book if buying just one? Mostly using a Farmer with big and small blades, saw and awl.

Victorinox Nomad

Discontinued under that name, and in the red/black dual density model. Now the Picknicker in solid red or black polyamide.

I wanted this one for a few years now. The colour, and the liner lock, and NOT being a one-handed opener. A classy design, with a sturdy frame, and that broad locking flathead screwdriver. The liner lock blades feel sturdier and better rooted into the chassis than the side lock models.

I just happened across an outdoor store which had a sale on multi-tools and Swiss Army knives. The Nomad was just sitting in the multi tool cabinet. No code or price tag. Clearly an orphan.  I left the poorer for it, but got a good price.

Any of the ones by Chris  Lubkman  , basically all of his books are the same. Best bet is YouTube , There were a couple others on Amazon that looked interesting. Good luck , Nice pic by the way :like:
