In my never-ending(at least that is what it feels like at times)quest to update my photo file on knives I came across a cigar box that I had once used to hold a bunch of melon & sausage testers that now houses several different items including vintage knife sharpeners(that no one in their right mind would use to sharpen a good knife), some combination knife sharpeners/glass cutters;and a couple of can openers. I guess these would all fall under the general category of "edged tools"(a glass cutter has a rotary cutting edge) so I will start a post on them.The only item that does not have an edge is kind of a unique piece that I found at an antique shop awhile back. Patented in 1896 it is made by the Bridgeport Gun & Implement Co.;a manufacturer of many firearms and sign making equipment. It is an adjustable cup that has a scale on one side to measure powder(black powder I assume)in drams and on the other side for measuring shot in ounces. I will show it in a separate post since it requires 4 pictures to show how it operates.
OK starting out:
#1 A combination knife sharpener,glass cutter,and bottle cap lifter by Apex.
#2 Another knife sharpener by E.C.Harley Co. patented 1922.
#3 An unmarked folding glass cutter in the shape of a pocket knife.One side has a diamond cutting stone(stone missing)an the other has a notched glass breaker for different thickness glass.Used to break small pieces that remain.
#4 A solid brass glass cutter made in France.The handle unscrews to show a tiny screwdriver used to change cutting wheels.

#1 The French glass cutter dis-assembled.
#2 & 3 A multi-head glass cutter by the Goodell Tool Co. patented Mar.31 1896.There are six wheels inside the head.To move to another wheel simply loosen the screw and rotate the head.
#4 A knife sharpener by the H.R.Ransom Co. of Coldwater Michigan.Not sure how old this is;Coldwater is about 60 miles from here.

#1 thru #4: A tool called the Master Sharpener consisting of a metal bracket to which is attached a small piece of a file and two small pieces of steel that act as guides for the knife.To operate the blade is laid against the guide and drawn across the file to the point.The blade is then flipped over and the process repeated.It actually works quite well once you understand how it works.

Page four:
#1 & #2 Two unmarked knife sharpeners;one has a wooden handleand a glass cutter and the other an ivory handle.
#3 A cigar box hammer by R.L.Parker of Burlington VT advertising the Lord Nelson Cigar.For some reason it has a bottle cap lifter on the end.The hook shaped area is for lifting the tacks that held the wooden cigar box lids.You would insert the blade between the lid and the box and pry up slightly until the tacks were showing and then use the hook to pull them out.To re-close simply use the hammer section.
#4 A group of four cigar box hammers advertising John Ruskin and the Melba cigar.

OK here is the tool I was talking about.It will take two posts to show it all.The first pic is an overall view of the tool. The next pic is the bottom of the cup showing the maker's name and patent date. The rest of the pics show the cup in various positions.It is adjusted by pulling up and turning it to lock into the desired position. One side is for powder measure and the other for shot.

Thanks for the kind words guys;I just have a lot of fun with collecting. I don't smoke or drink and have no desire to do so anymore so I have to do something with all the money I am saving by abstinence (lol). I guess I must have inherited my grandfather's innate curiosity about life and everything associated with it.
