GG, the Pocket wrench is a great tool! I keep one handy most of the time.
Out of interest, what is a Pocketwrench I?!

Please do. :tu: I've heard of them, and have searched for pics but never found any. I'm also a big fan of the Pocketwrench II. Very useful bit of kit. :salute:

I think it's a marketing thing:

Glad to see that picture, I thought I was going crazy! :D IIRC, they came in stainless and black in the original run but who really knows, it has been years and my memory isn't what it once was. I'll keep looking...
Just call me GG123, I'll get a picture tomorrow!
That looks like a really useful little tool. How sturdy are the teeth, i.e. how easily do they strip?

They don't strip. :D Usually the bolts are the ones that end up being marred after an encounter with the PW2. ;) It's a very tough tool and it sometimes leaves a mark on the bolts.
The small teeth make it good for both metric and imperial size bolts and it also works well with those LM pivot bolts.

Mr. W, I found it on ebay. It is the only one I've ever seen other than a pic of Stromdranes.
enki_ck here is a family pic for you.
HEHEHEHEHE That's a good one.
Look at their drawing. Assuming everything is scale, it's going to be a lot thinner than a true PocketWrench. Probably softer, to.

I somewhat doubt that.. Stainless Steel is kind of hard to mess up and the thickness in the pictures looks the same.
It's pretty much what happens when things get outsourced in China, they show up much cheaper but exactly the same as their much more expensive "real" thing. All that extra $ you spent on the tools is all marketing  and keep in mind, even for 6$ each they're still making a profit on it! So the real costs of making this thing are probably around 3$ meaning that on each pocketwrench a whopping 16$ profit is made.
Sometimes when a tool has been around for awhile it gets cast away for the latest new gadget. I've owned a Pocketwrench and Pocketwrench II for a long time now. I usually have one in with my multitool sheath as an extra edc tool. I also carry one in my bicycle tool bag and I have a few floating around in my shop.
I've been carrying the Pocketwrench II lately and I've found new love for this great tool. Not only is it handy, but it is strong enough to do just about any task that you throw at it. Made of 420 stainless steel it is a tough little bugger. :tu:
I'm going to be ordering 5 more pretty soon. At $10 each, that is really hard to beat!
http://www.pocketwrenchtool.com/
Note: I'm not affiliated with Burktec in any way, I just love their Pocketwrench II.
How? The real one is $10,50 :shrug:Shrug, just did a google search, none of the first hits go as low as $15, my first three hits at google: 20$ (http://www.pocketwrenchtool.com/), 20 pound (http://www.rutlands.co.uk/sp+woodworking-hand-tools-screwdrivers-pocket-wrench-pocket-wrench-pocketwrench+dk7112), 22 dollar (http://www.amazon.com/Burketek-Pocket-Wrench-II-Set/dp/B0089SI412). Anyway, it's not really the point I was making, which was that it wasn't a fake and that tools mass produced in China are being sold for way too much.
Correction $14.95 :-\ Seems they went up since last year but still no $16 profit to be made. (Free shipping from Lee Valley currently too)

There is also a Latshaw PWII in CV there is a pic of one in this thread (http://forum.multitool.org/index.php?topic=16106.0). There is also a PWII marked Mcfeely's which is a hardware type Co. Proably a advertisment thing. I do not know the chronology of their production. As it stands at the moment there are two PWII's that I do not have yet. :)

I'm asking cause there are some plans to rejuvinate the multitool wiki and I'd maybe add a OPMT section, so an article abotu the PW IIs would be a must. :D
Loving my Pocketwrench II. Been carrying and using it for just over a week now. Love the form factor and it's quite functional to boot! Slips nicely into the belt pouch with my other MT accessories. Loved it so much, that I bought a backup just in case :tu:.
I really need to get one of these again.
I used my old one to pay off a debt.
it just may be the best one piece tool I have Used
Thanks to the help of Nikola I was able to aquire this McFreely's Pocketwrench II. Thank you Nikola for you generous help. :salute: I might add the teeth are the more rounded type of the earlier Pocketwrench II's. :)

Yes the reason to go with the PWII is because the PWIII doesn't exist yet. At least that I'm aware of at the moment. :D

Special bits are available for the PWII with stops and ball detents to hold them in place. They are on the expensive side though.

Great looking line up. :dd:
Didn't realize until now that the McFeely's was stamped upside down. Both the text and the teeth of the wrench. Strange.
Thank you enki_ck and Mr W. The McFreely stamping and teeth are backwards or reversed to the others. It also has different style lettering.
Parnass that might be a good mod. I've thought of several different types of mods but cant seem to make a decision as what I really want to do yet. :)

Order cheap knockoffs from the dealextreme and do them all! Then find the ones you like and do them on the real thing... :D
Would this help?

I admit to owning several of the real deal and none of the knockoffs for comparison. If it were me, though, I would wait the extra month or two or however long it takes to save up the funds for the original. Just my $0.02 though.+1
I ordered one of the cheap clones to try out. Lets keep that to ourselves, okay?

I've been slowly snagging them off ebay one here one there for around the last year and a half. I'm certain there is a hardware store or two somewhere with old stock gathering dust. :D

4 PocketWrench II's for sale on eBay from Germany. Seller is unable to ship outside of EU (including Norway..) if anyone is interested. Only $12 each :)
Excellent find :salute:
Either Burktek or Latshaw is my guess, but I believe David is more knowledgeable on this subject than I am.

Is it any good? :pok:
Oh, and you need a stainless USA Latshaw still ?
This is where you suffer the consequences of not sharing your brownies with me :td:
I know the forum has done limited runs of some multis from various companies. Does anyone have contacts anywhere that might be able to crank out some PWs (or PW-esque tools) for us? From my laymen's perspective, they're awfully simple. OTOH, they're pretty popular in some of the other EDC groups I'm in, so there might be a market for someone to bring them back for more general production if given a nudge?Would have to investigate who (if anyone) holds the patent on them today.
I've been lucky to get some new Black Chrome Vanadium PWs :woohoo:Good score!

:hatsoff: ...what's everyones experience about the yellow paintings on the imprints? Do they hold up well?My daily carry is the stainless version, but I think Poncho’s has seen pretty heavy use and the yellow markings still look OK in the pic above. Perhaps he’ll be along to comment.
Even if not, it will not hold me back from using it though :)

some new Black Chrome Vanadium PWs.
I am wondering if the chrome vanadium versions are any tougher. I went with CV/tool steel because that was my opinion (and you could still find the stainless ones easily at the time).

Ok fellows, where are y'all finding these?I’d recommend keeping an eye on the ‘bay. They pop up there from time to time lightly used or even new for reasonable prices.
I've got my share of OPTs over the years but this one looks totally different and useable.
Just found this thread, thanks for telling me about it everyone ::) :pok:
I figured that you knew how to navigate the forum :pok:
:D
:iagree: ??? :dunno:  :D
As I’ve carried a PW for so long, but they are discontinued, I thought it prudent to grab a few backups when the opportunities arose.
Note the top one is an original PW. The addition of the rulers on the PWII was a definite upgrade. Sadly, this example isn’t in great shape; the spots and discoloration appear to be rust.
The second from top looks to have seen by far the heaviest use of the four CV tools. The yellow appears faded, not as bright as the newer looking ones, but still perfectly clear and legible.
I've now able to join the elite club of PWII owners thanks to the generosity of McStitchy, who messaged me after I had wanted to know where to find one.
It showed up here on this side of the Atlantic on Saturday and it's first use was tightening up a nut on my wheelchair.

Don't know how I'm gonna repay this kindness, but for now, my humble thanks and appreciation.

What about either a Gerber shard, or a niteize DoohicKey?The Shard is a neat little tool. I don't carry mine enough. The Gerber Mullet is awlso worth considering; it's a tiny bit bigger and has a few more functions. The DoohicKey... :dunno: You might be able to find one at Home Depot, though.

You mean the screwdriver?
It is a Leatherman Ratchet Driver with a Zapwizard micro screwdriver handle. It slips over the Ratchet driver and this one holds the LM flat bits. Just search Zapwizard and he has a site  he is a member here at MTO (you can probably get to his site from his signature line link here as well) but he hasn't been active in a while :salute: the price isn't exactly cheap but when I ordered mine they were cheaper  :ahhh

I picked up my PW2 very early on and carried one daily. I stopped for some reason as we tend to do. Glad I had it thats for sure. Its a versatile tool and being flat it is fairly easy to carry. A little heavy but the utility is there.Lucky,,

Has anyone used it with bits? I tried it just to see how it works but not actually used it.
Aloha, what flashlight is that?
4/7s Preon P0 stainless steel. I got this one and a Ti A0 I think its called in red led.
How about a little love for the OG PW?

That bit driver looks great! It seems to hold regular bits, not the thin Leatherman ones. Does it handle both sizes?

They are 4 inches in length, 1 inch in width and 1/8 of an inch thick :salute:
I do hope you can make something similar :woohoo: :like:

Were you looking for one MadP? Or just helping locate them?Kinda both, I was kinda interested in them and to join the group but I found one of these for dirt cheap so I convinced the Mrs to get me one when she ordered a few things off of Amazon,,

When you get around to buying an ARC buy 2 of them and we can make a deal for my OG PW :2tu:
Picked up another, this time in black oxide. Shows a bit of wear but I'll use it so I don't mind.
where are you finding all of these? Not sure where he got that one, but they do pop up on the ‘bay from time to time.

I thought some might enjoy this. It is the original instructions that came with one of the first PWIIs I ever bought: Brand new Burktek versions around 2008 - 2010.
